argh... there should be no problems with PS3 games... They advertise region free games, as in not locking you in.. same as with PSP...

AFAIK you should be able to sign up for an account from any country (UK, France, Spain etc) and the only limitation is that your credit/debit card matches the country that you choose. So you could select your location as German and it'll work. But you'll need a German bank card and address to download any content that costs money (free stuff likes demos and update don't need that)

How'd you access that? I've got a PAL PS3 for a few days and you cannot register yourself as an European user without 1.60 firmware.....oh, you pre-registered...doh!

Tried accessing it with the account I created on the SCEE sign-up page, and was told "You cannot access this service until the PS3 launches in your region!"
Did you create a new account on the console or use a pre-created account?

Why wouldn't they? Yeah, NBA2K7, NHL2K7 and Resistance: Fall of Man USA versions run fine on the PAL PS3.
No online access in Resistance though, but that was not a surprise. Though, I only tried with my USA PSN account. Using that was fine, which was nice. I've yet to try and European account on an Euro PS3 and seeing if it's possible to play Resistance online, but it shouldn't be. For online play, you need your own region's game.

I've tried a few PS1 titles like Wipeout 3 Special Edition, which worked fine on a 1.50 PAL PS3.
The PS2 games I tried, such as PES6 and FFXII did not, BUT, you need 1.60 firmware for proper PS2 emulation.
They better not have ****ed PES6. You'd think with english people in charge of the PS2 playback, they would not know that is one title, most of us cannot live without

Also, I was easily able to register an Jap account and download the Hot Shots Golf 5 demo.

Five games set to slip from original list

PlayStation 3's launch this Friday will not see the release of F.E.A.R., Splinter Cell Double Agent, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, NBA 2K7 or Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom, despite these five games being part of Sony's 'launch period' line up, and expected to touch down alongside the next-gen console.
In addition - or should that be subtraction - only four Network games will be available, as we discovered while compiling our PS3 FAQ.
Splinter Cell is now expected to launch on 30 March, NBA 2K7 on 6 April, F.E.A.R. on 20 April and Untold Legends and Oblivion following on 27 April, according to information given to GamesRadar by our local GAME outlet, and also confirmed by a representative of Play.com.
Blast Factor, Lemmings, Gran Turismo and Tekken 5 will appear on the PS Network this Friday. While, hopefully, flOw, Super Rub a Dub, Go! Sudoku, Go! Puzzle and GripShift will follow shortly - probably at the rate of one a week.

last night i dreamt it was launch night and i travelled with my friend to a huge shopping center that was doing a midnight launch, and on the way i nearly got mugged for my phone but the guy who tried to mug me i knew from school so he ran away when i identified him, and then we were playing real life Mario Kart and Wollan was Mario and he drove over some ice pond which cracked and he drowned. Wierd shit.
A french Website just tested the PlayStation 3 Pal retrocompatibility and took pics of stocks in some shops. Seems like the stocks aren't limitated at all 'cos all retailers said that they received all preordered consoles, and some more for those who didn't preordered. Here's a little summary :

It makes little sense to test PS2 compatibility until the firmware is available for download on launch day as the emulation shouldn't even be functional AT ALL on PAL PS3s until 1.6 is made available (the units are not pre-loaded with 1.6).

Someone posted in another thread, the official PAL BC site is up now. It doesn't have specific details on what doesn't work on particular games though, just a three-star scale (where 3 is the best and 1 is the worst, and not being on the list means it doesn't work at all).
