hmm... the latest EU release schedule from Ubisoft says: "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - 2007".

Seems, that it's not a launch title anymore...

Bah, I wanted to check it out. My PC is on life support whenver I play Oblivion. :(

Oh well, 2 launch titles is more than enough for me. :D

I just got a router and a surround system to enhance the experience. Unfortunately I still have a SDTV. A couple more months and I'll get a HDTV though.

You made the right choice - audio>>>visuals :)

Playing games in HD is ace but it won't do much to improve your enjoyment (it just makes everything look clearer and a lot nicer). Going from TV speakers to surround sound will just completely transform the way you enjoy gaming. Nothing else will immerse you as much as proper surround sound

I disagree, in this case visuals >>> audio.

The difference between HD gaming and SD gaming is HUGE. I wouldn't recommend buying a PS3/360 without a HDTV, it's just not the same experience.

Apart from one or two games on the 360, I could have enjoyed every one on a 28" widescreen CRT. I have a 32" LCD now and, even though it makes everything better, I wouldn't say it's essential. But there are so many games that are genuinely better with surround sound.

Condemned - you can hear voices and footsteps behind you.
PGR3/Burnout/Test Drive - you can hear cars driving behind you and judge how far away they are.
Call of Duty - you can pinpoint snipers anywhere around you by listening for ricochets and bullets

Things like that are just small examples but these things DO make games better. Being able to see text better or having much better colours (while still nice) don't do anything to improve gameplay

I can feel the launch kreeping up on me. I'm glad I only decided recently to jump on PS3 launch. Can't imagine the waiting if I had pre-ordered it when they announced it almost two years ago.

Cheater. :/

There is a microscopic chance my system might arrive on Thursday. Most likely after 16:00 (second shipment to the post office) so I might as well go to work that day.

Why didn't you order a home delivery (between 17-21)? I'm ****ed either way, because it'll take two days for the PS3 to get here, and they'll send it out on thursday.

I think Discshop only has one method of shipping? I dont remember getting to choose one anyway. They use Schenker instead of Posten.

DiscShop will send the units on Wednesday. :)

So far, Resistances' online-thing only regonizes the consoles' region. So basically, Europe will only be able to play with Europe, and so on. However, I remember some rumours about Resistance having international servers in a patch.

Can someone confirm that?

I thought the plan to enable worldwide play has been announced/confirmed in various places for the May downloadable content release (not to be confused with the March 23 patch):

< IGN: There will be a major server change in May to go along with the map pack. It goes global. How will this change latency and match-making, and are you going to have regional leaderboards, competitions, etc?

Ellis: Since the beginning of development on Resistance: Fall of Man, we were constantly running international demos. In fact, during European and Japanese events last year, we were running 40 player games off of US servers with no lag. Because of that, we are confident that this game will play well for international games. > etc...

Wow, that's nice. I guess I'm not getting my PS3 at Webhallen after all.* :lol

*If Motorstorm is included the whole launch day and not only during the midnight release.

Yeah, that's what I assumed. But a free copy of Motorstorm is a free copy of Motorstorm. :)

Anybody heard anything new about the ps3 version? Are the vsync/fps issues still there? I'm thinking about picking this up if its still coming out on the 27th.

Guys, anyone heard rumors about PAL PS3s being unable to run NTSC games? I was told this from a shop clerk who says that they received the first consoles and tried running some import games on one of these, with no luck... I don't know the guy so he could have made it up entirely, I don't know.

Haha, if that would turn out true. I would not get a PS3. That would be enough even for me when it comes to raping. :)

Are you sure he didn't try some PS2 import game? As being region free is one of the key point of PS3, and making it region locked only for EU would be totally a braindead move by SCEE.

:(.

Please, Sony do not do this to European players!

Darn, Japanese and American consoles can play other regions' games just fine... PLAYSTATION 3 game are supposed to be region free... :(.

Why do I have to worry about this few days before launch :(?

He said to have tried Resistance and Formula One NTSC.

Edit - Pana: I really hope the guy was full of shit and was simply FUDing me. Tomorrow I'll try to call a friend of mine who owns a games shop to see if he already received the console and tried it.

people were saying the same thing about the european PSP, and it is also region free. Something tells me i shouldn't be so sure about it but... i really doubt it will be region locked. if not, i guess i'll have to sell my ntsc VF5
i do know pal games run on ntsc ps3s, not that it's gonna prove anything though (well, other than the fact that ntsc ps3s are indeed region free and that pal games are not region locked)

It struck me that they might have tried the games on an IDU unit which is coded not to run anything except what Sony wants it to run.

Maybe someone can confirm if stores already has begun receiving units?

This would explain it. Maybe he didn't know that demo units are locked this way (I didn't know, too). I hope this is the case. However tomorrow I'll try to investigate further.

US consoles cant play PAL PS2 games/dvd's, but that will be added in firmware update.
Since NTSC was first market to go out, PAL functionality should be added as soon as March 23rd update.

That won't happen because of license and publishing issues.

I highly doubt that.

Anyways, maybe someone could send a email to threespeech.com regarding region free ps3 games in the PAL sku's. I've never heard of this rumor before, but clarification would be nice.

it might be the case if you have the console connected via composite or set it to 576i/PAL. In that case there are technical reasons making that possible.

So anyone trying this, make sure to double check with 60Hz enabled or better still, at least component cables and a PAL/NTSC neutral setting like 720p

I guess we'll know pretty soon either way

BTW, anywhere got games in yet? I wouldn't mind VF5 or Virtua Tennis 3 for my JPN PS3, but most places seem to say they don't have the games yet, or are waiting for Friday.

I haven't seen a USB headset guide around but since it's Logitech and since it's USB I'm 99% sure it will work.

This is what that guy said too... they tried NTSC games because Sony sent them the consoles but not the games.

I really hope you're proven wrong on this matter. But on the other hand it would make me wait and not buy the console right now. Which probably would be a smart thing to do. :lol

I have a preordered PS3 and I'm seriously thinking about cancelling it, if the NTSC uncompatibility is confirmed I'll definitely not get it.

If PAL PS3 can´t play NTSC PS3-games I will cancel my preoder in an instant. Someone please confirm this isnt so!

A PAL PS3 can play NTSC PS3 games. Don't worry. PlayStation 3 games are universal.

However it can't play NTSC PS2/PS1 games.

We're all aware of that. That's not what we're discussing right now.

My local Gamestop has dummies for the launch titles including Oblivion. It even has a price - SEVENTY FIVE EUROS! First party titles (Motorstorm, Resistance etc.) are €60.

€75 is a rip off. Now it was also that price on the 360 when it first appeared, but the price is now down to €40 and on the PC it is even lower at €30.

Unless you have an overwhelming desire to play this only on the PS3, I'd advise you to buy the PC version. You could buy a second PS3 controller out the change.

That would be a) silly and b) totally in keeping with SCEE's current policy of trying to ban all imports and alienate all their customers.

I assumed they were stopping imports of hardware saying it was due to quality control, but probably more likely because they'd be losing money. Imports of software have no relation to that, PSP is region free, PS3 will be too, we just need some more false negative press because the PS3 comes out in a weeks time!

Link for this?

I can possibly see this being true if you have an SD TV and expect your PAL PS3 to output NTSC on an import. The PAL PS3 specs make no mention of 480i or 480p at all. Instead it supports 576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p. Maybe it really does support NTSC but it certainly doesn't say it.

Then again, if you have an HD set I see no reason why an import wouldn't work since the same resolutions are supported by every region. And every EU HD set would be via HDMI anyway.

Doesn't look very false to me. The embargo you see pictured above is as a DIRECT RESULT of SCEE's campaign to ban imports.

[edit]Oh my bad, need more coffee.

[edit2]To try and salvage something here... Press have had retail units for several days now, wouldn't this 'incompatibility' have leaked out by now? We're relying on the word of a retail store employee at the moment. :/
