PAL Charts - Week 1, 2013 - Prepare the Vita Chamber! Patient Wii U on Route!

EA’s ‘FIFA 13’ has not been seen at No1 since week 42, 2012 but climbs back to the top of the podium for a 5th week at No1 as the game whose sales decreased the least over the December sales season (-51%)

'FIFA 13’ has still never been outside of the Top 4 since release 15 weeks ago. Ubisoft ended the year at No1 with ‘Far Cry 3’ and the title drops 1 place to No2 (-65%). Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ (-66%) remains at No3, Square Enix remain at No4 with ‘Hitman Absolution’ ( -66%) and EA remain at No5 with ‘Need for Speed Most Wanted’ (-60%).

Warner’s ‘Batman: Arkham City – Game of the Year’ enters the Top 40 for the first time at No25 (+6%) thanks to some modest price activity, as does THQ’s ‘Saints Row: the Third – The Full Package’ at No40 (-4%).

Nintendo needs to push for Moshi Monsters to go 3DS exclusive. give it a fucking UK-exclusive bundle!
Nice healthy 3DS sales in Irish Land though.

NSMB2 falling behind MK7 in the UK isn't great though.

COD:BO2 (WiiU) - less than 378 (1%)

Fifa 13 - Xbox360 (49) PS3 (30) Wii (6)

Where is Vita? It was listed the last few weeks.

Was the Wii U version ever listed?

We know the 6th placed Wii U game on the individual chart (Blops 2) only sold 378, and FIFA 13 isn't even on that chart.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Imagine the Activision guy looking at that 378 number. Then the Vita number they must also have. Then comparing the games: a shitrushed awful non-full experience portable game versus the full bells and whistles CODBLOPS2 shibang with even some performance boosts.

More than any Nintendo console before it, the Wii U will be just Nintendo games and Ubisoft charity work I guess.

Can't wait for the WiiU to come out, not long now!
It's going to light up those charts like a fart into a cigarette lighter, you'll see!

Before last week, I can't remember the last time I saw a sales data thread here with a snarky subtitle.

Can't say Wii U doesn't deserve it with its apparent performance in Europe, though.

Well to be fair, this one is also making fun of the Vita.

I'm not sure we've actually had launches like this though in many generations.

Even worse than BLOPS 2's <400 sales this week is the fact that only 5 games sold better than that on the Wii U.

NOJ is going to rip NOE (and NOA, for that matter) a new one.

President Iwata inherited Satoru Shibata (President of NoE) from Yamauchi, so if things don't improve in Europe soon, big boss will bring in his own man to run things there.

Tbf its clear NoE is putting effort behind the 3DS atm.
Possible they just don't think Mario is enough and is awaiting more games for a push in 2013.

We'll see. Haven't actually seen NSMBU properly advertised, but I've seen Paper Mario.
They have limited money to spend, NoE just putting it where they think they'll get the money back.

No point marketing a system thats not going to sell significantly atm anyway.

if I do next weeks, I won't add a subtitle.

this is why I did it, but as it's upsetting people I'll stop doing them if I do next weeks onward.

it would be a real tragedy if british sales thread titles were the only ones free of snark. we have a rich and proud tradition of provocactive dickheadlines.

That's gotta be bad news for any games not called 'Mario'.

Only if people bought every Mario game. Which I quite doubt.
Some other games will be in there holding that up.

Why, it's funny. Just dont leave Microsoft out of it next time. Dispense the snark equally. =) Then everyone can be equally incensed.

Yeah I didn't like last weeks title cause it was a bit quick to the mark, but this one is fine. Still think if people want a UK thread we should just have one.
Makes better than 'but the other countries' and we might collect some info to help understand the UK market better.

Since more people are interested in that specific market I think its beneficial to have data on it in one thread. Here quite a lot of interesting stuff gets suffocated by other data.
Like what do those guardian numbers for COD tell us on the other platforms?

I feel it might be putting people off debating or discussing the numbers / charts as they feel the subtitle is setting the tone for discussion.

Holy crap @ FIFA (well deserved)

Konami need to forget about next year PES and just completely focus on the next gen one because if they failed in the next gen jump then PES will be as good as dead.

Wouldn't be fair criticism unless they helped get Western 3rd party games as big as MonHun and Dragon Quest exclusive to their console. There are readily tangible reasons why 3DS and Wii U are performing better in Japan.

Didn't we literally have a thread about the time 3DS outsold Vita 50:1? I think that we can be equal opportunity sales-age comedians.

Yep. New PES at launch. And not the usual cheap multiplatform shit.

Brand might be a problem but we know the Football market is fucking demanding, they go after quality first and foremost. PES 13/14 need to bring it or they'll continue to be mostly ignored.

FIFA just became too good, probably the success story this gen we should all be happy about.
PES meanwhile basically for one year 'stopped' then never started again. It was really weird, it had such momentum behind it too.

This whole Wii U shambles must be part of plan right? No way could they fail this bad by accident.

Yes of course! The next Nintendo Direct shall shed some light on their master pan for sure

Btw I wonder how COD Declassified did this week

WiiU's situation in Europe is so dire. I was in Switserland during the holiday period. No one cared about the console. Retail was filled with WiiU consoles.

The same is happening in Holland, where I live. There are already discounts. But people still don't seem very interested. I remember family and friends traveling to Belgium and Germany to try to find a Wii console. But no one is talking about the U.

Don't know what Nintendo can do.

anyone of a sensitive disposition regarding bad nintendo news should probably consider removing GAF from their favourites for at least the next six months.

Drop the price. 350 euro is 30% higher than in america so they should have room

Yeah from certain users.

I don't see the problem it was witty and true. If the Wii U was a roaring success they'd have no problem with a subtitle denigrating something like the Vita

The discussion in last weeks thread was very good and on topic from nearly everybody who posted. I only saw thread title moaning from about 3-4 people who obviously have invested too much emotion into their machines.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Well, on the plus side, looks like the 3DS XL "free game" promotion worked somewhat.

Ok, let's say the price drops to €250 for the premium sku

Then what???

The WiiU line up is still mediocre and Nintendo is being vague about future releases. Nintendo hasn't announced anything to keep people interested in te console. The next two months look horrrible when it comes to sofware.

No pricedrop can change that.

Next year's PES is (supposedly) using the Fox engine, and they've (apparently) been working on it for at least a couple of years already. Could be decent. Could. Maybe.

According to Michael Pachter, Wii U sold 675k units in US for December.

December 2005 = Xbox 360 sold 326k units
December 2006 = Wii sold 604,200 units & PS3 sold 490,700k units

If his numbers are accurate, then Wii U outsold Wii by 70,800 , PS3 by 185,700, and Xbox 360 by 349,000 units.

Yep at this point a pricedrop would have little effect imo. What games are coming in the next two months to drive sales? I asked someone last week what was coming out in the next two months.

Code:
Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge 01/11/13	Tecmo Koei America
SiNG Party 01/18/13	Nintendo
Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth	01/24/13	Ubisoft

Scribblenauts Unlimited 02/08/13	Nintendo
NBA 2K13 02/11/13	2K Sports
Dream Pinball 3D II 02/15/13	TopWare
Rayman Legends 02/28/13	Ubisoft

F1 Race Stars March 2013	Codemasters
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate March 2013	Capcom
The Croods: Prehistoric Party! March 2013	D3P

Aliens: Colonial Marines Q1 2013 Sega
LEGO City Undercover Q1 2013 Nintendo

Does anyone see anything that would get mainstream gamers dipping into their pockets and buying a Wii U to play. I don't.

Rayman Legends looks like the only thing I'd be interested in buying. Shame it will probably bomb as well.
