Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

y'all should be ashamed
Just got done with some PC playin'. Love the gun handling and I was ready to hate the bots, but you know what, they totally work. The maps would feel so sparse without them. Plus I really suck, so it's great to have something to shoot at.

I love the sound design too. The sound when the Titans fall, the gun feedback, all of it is fantastic. Gunplay is snappy, just like COD, which is great. Love the wall running aspects...it's pretty funny that I would run around buildings and then think, wait a minute, I can just basically jump over them. Very cool.

I only buy Call of Duty these days for single player and split screen, and never take it online because it doesn't really appeal to me...just can't get into online shooters. About an hour into the game I have the same feelings with TF, nothing against the game at all, just not my cup o' tea. Since there's only online multiplayer I'll pass on this one.

Still though, great show by Respawn considering they've had to rebuild from scratch. Can't wait to see where they take this franchise in the future.

Runs like butter on my gaming laptop, which is paramount. Took me a while to get used to playing a speedy FPS with m/kb after spending an entire gen playing COD on 360. Atmosphere is through the roof once you get into gameplay, when the TITANS are dropping in....LAAWWWWWWDHAVEMERCY. Bots are growing on me. Slowly. Jetpacks are a stroke of genius for this game type, I love the verticality in the maps. Hell overall the maps are really well done in the beta. Dash move for TITANs is a nice perk, although I might bump it up by one bar...it feels like it's a hair on the wrong side of balance vs unbalanced. I'll need a bunch of additional games under my belt before I can say for certain, just a gut feel for now.

Stuff I didn't like? The HUD is far too busy for me, especially in TITAN mode. The frenetic pace established means that I have to focus on the real estate in front of me - and it's so easy to lose your shields as a TITAN that I find myself constantly shifting my eyes up away from the reticule. The sound mix is really hit and miss for me, especially coming from the hundreds of hours I've spent with DICE and the BC2 War Tapes audio setting. There's so much info that I would much rather process aurally instead of visually that I feel it's a missed opportunity. Maybe the final version will contain a few more audio passes....?

Worth reinstalling Origin for after not touching it for ages.

I'm surprised at how smooth the game runs. It feels very good, too, with perfect mouse movement. The infantry combat seems to be very twitch-based and the Titans feel a little clunky and surprisingly weak rather than the game-changing monsters I thought they'd be. It also feels like you get Titans a little too easily, and before long they're just stomping around everywhere. The AI/bots running around feel completely unnecessary, and just add an element of confusion as you aren't sure whether the guy you see when you turn the corner is just another useless bot or an actual person. Overall, it's a neat game but I don't think I'll be buying it. It seems pretty shallow, like it would get old fast, and there's absolutely no teamwork what-so-ever which is the single biggest turnoff for me at this point. I'd might as well be playing CoD with mechs.

I haven't really been following the game that much but after hitting a few hours with it and hitting lvl 14 I'm in love. Its so much fun I don't even mind losing. I really hope they fix the slow down on the xbone, it really affects gameplay. The smart pistol is so fun when I run into a room full of grunts and 1 shot the entire room. This is like the mech game I always wanted.

Been playing on that exact laptop since I got beta access on Thursday. With everything set to high and 4xAA I get around 45-60fps (45 average). Plays pretty good, but I hope newer drivers makes the experience smoother.

Thanks, good to know this laptop is capable. Do the drivers update automatically if newer ones become available? (sorry i am a new the PC gaming realm)

Guys, I'm on PC and I keep getting "DirectX Setup Error: An internal error has occured". Won't even allow me to click "Repair Game". It's driving me nuts.

I love Last Titan Standing.

Really prefer being in Titans to Pilots.

The gameplay is solid, now to see how much content is in the retail product before buying.

I've got a GeForce GTX 780M and when I start the tutorial I get a stuttering mess of smoke and nothing else. It says to look at some lights and there are none. Guess I need to upgrade my drivers?

After playing a bit and leveling up to level 6 I can safely say this game is a blast.

If you are looking for fast paced action this is your game
If you are looking for top notch graphical features this is NOT your game

The controls are incredibly amazing. Coming from Battlefield 4, and not having rubber banding, netcode issues, and disconnect every other game, I could simply pick this game up and play.

The way you move through the buildings while titans are fighting around you. Looking for that route away that will get you up close to a titan a blast it is an experience you all have to try.

Overall, I have been very impressed.

Played a few rounds with everything but AA on max, and Insane textures does not need 3GB of VRAM. Played at a steady 55-60 FPS on a GTX 660M with 1GB of VRAM. One thing I hate about it so far is that despite my card being able to handle max just fine, objects pop in extremely close, and there is too much fog trying to cover that up. Been looking everywhere for a console/config file, but I can't find one that makes a difference. Hopefully if someone makes an advanced config tool, it won't be bannable, as the auto config for unchangeable settings obviously has issues.

Gameplay wise, it's like better than I thought it would be. I was just expecting CoD with mechs. It's much more than that.

Welp, this and other impressions are making me want this right now. Just unsure if I pick up a XBone for it, or just play it on PC.

Edit: Or I guess I could just buy it for the 360, hmmm.

Edit 2: Is there an upgrade deal for Titanfall 360 -> Titanfall XBone?

Always upgrade your drivers. I'm using the beta ones and getting good results with my gtx470.

Game is fun, I'm not even a multipalyer guy and im digging it.

I have 65Mbps down and Origin said I was downloading at 30MBs which doesn't add up but I downloaded the whole 12GB in 20 minutes. Not going to complain. As far as the game goes I wasn't ever hyped for it but I don't think this has changed my mind yet. It is nice to finally experience it but I will wait until after the finished product is out for a bit. Some of the things I felt about the game. Matches are too short, PC Textures are inconsistent but could just be the beta showing (Playing maxed everything at 1920x1080). I see a fun product but I would be more impressed with it on more of a large scale instead of close range. Something that did impress me was the quick matchmaking and 0 lag. I am not ruling out a purchase yet, but I won't preorder yet either.

How does the game perform on a 670 at 1080p?

I'm probably gonna get hate for asking this, but has anyone tried playing with a controller on pc? How does it do?

I usually don't enjoy shooters a ton, but this game is a lot of fun. The Titans are a blast to pilot. GMG sent me a $10 off coupon and at this rate i'll probably end up biting on it and preordering.

The game runs quite well on my old PC (C2D@3200, 460ti) with everything turned down, <3 Source Engine.

Haven't played a competitive FPS on the PC for a while so the controls feel a little bit too busy. Having problems hitting Q for the shield ability at times and hit tab instead :/
I also don't like that you can't change through to the anti titan weapon using the mouse wheel.

I really like the movement so far and think it will be great with more experience. I don't like the fast time to kill of the gunplay and the addition of the bots really feel like a filler so everyone can have some fun. I play competitive FPS to play against other humans, not some lame AI I can farm to get my titan faster.

The artstyle and atmosphere are pretty cool. I only think that it is weird that the titans carry their weapons like humans.

While the gunplay isn't my thing, I had fun and think this will be a big hit with the shooter crowd.

After 3 matches the game hasn't impressed me so far, I'll try playing more after this to see if it gets better.

For now I feel the only reason the game isn't called Call of Duty: Future Warfare it's because Activision doesn't publish it.
Titans replaced killstreaks, there's more mobility and dummy bots got included, lastly the lack of effort to make players work as a team is as present as ever in the CoD series.

I find the game a refinement of the CoD formula, unfortunately I've grown tired of this kind of multiplayer.

Once again I feel it is my duty to stream some proper gameplay later today. So many Pilots on the ground, running in straight lines from point A to B! Its proving more difficult to get people out of old play styles than I thought...

Really like that you can select your data center and they just don't connect you to whatever. Also pretty nice that you can see your ping. Very rare thing in console gaming these days. Usually you have bars only which don't tell you a fucking thing.

What? Players better work as a team once everyone has titans or they're gonna get ganged up on and destroyed.

Really surprised how good this actually is, i sort of knew it would be a decent polished product, but its better than i thought it would be, the beta is just making me want to play the full game. Really happy to keep my pre-order at this point.

Have Respawn released any information on the other game modes?

I am seeing a lot of people reporting issues with Nvidia cards. Could it be because the Xbox One runs AMD parts that this game on PC does better with AMD cards? For example my friend is having trouble with his GTX 670, which is a much more powerful card than my Radeon 7850. And like I said, other than the occasional slow menu screen, the game is mostly buttery for me.

I'm having problems on my GTX 590, which is better than your friend's 670.

Getting about 55-60fps on 1080p, Medium/High settings, with 2x MSAA. Really feel like I should be able to max this game out and still keep locked 60. Might be an SLI thing.

You should watch the chick on twitch streaming under the username dexter_bl she went several games with 0 kills running around trying to kill pilots and grunts with the anti-titan weapons.

Use your camo - you're almost invisible to Titan optics, turn 180, jump on the Titan and blow its brains out.

My favorite moment so far was a Titan fight with a guy who knew how to dodge. We kept firing missiles and rockets at each other, dodging out of the way, capturing stuff in the vortex field, dodging out of the way, until we both ran out of ammo at the same time and just started to punch the hell out of each other. The fight seemed to last forever, until I finally ripped the pilot out and hurled his broken body into a tree.

Then punched out of my Titan because it was seconds from exploding.

You know what's awesome? Hacking a pack of Spectres and having them follow you around as personal bodyguards. I wasn't sure if it was worth the effort before, but if you can get a few of them, I really think that it is.

Oh my lawd this movement, ya'll:

YEEEEESSSSSSSSS, I'm so glad you can do this!

Every time I watched the trailers and saw the Titan just throw the Pilot away, I was like "Why doesn't he just crush him!?".

Yes.

By the looks of it, he has damage boost enabled whilst in his Titan.

Maybe that's the animation when having that on and he just throws the Pilot away without it?

Man, the game is a mess on my PC.
Maybe I'll roll back from the AMD 14.1 beta drivers.

I'm getting all kinds of artifacts/text (like a font file or something) popping up on the screen. Everything is flickering.. I'm going to have a seizure.

Running crossfired 280x's.

It does take some getting used to. Hard to break old habits.

I am on a 660 TI 3GB card and I am maxed settings at 1080P with no issues and solid framerates. To be honest the game isn't visually demanding from what I see so far.
