Titanfall boosts Xbox One UK sales by 96%, Tea and Crumpets for all!

No! Eating into the each other's marketshare equals more competition, if both are on track to sell 100 million then what's to stop both of them getting complacent? Why bother fighting for consumer dollars when all software splits are 50/50 etc etc.

It will never evenly split. This generation just starting still a lot of time before they get complacent. That will happen towards the end.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but the 96% sales boost is only compared to last week and considering PS4 was outselling XB1 3:1 last we heard, I'm guessing last week's figure wasn't particularly impressive.

Realistically Xb1 SHOULD be outselling PS4 in the UK considering the stock situation. If not then I really do worry for its future.

I'm sure MS know what they are doing tho, they are pretty smart after all.

Could you please give a source for this ratio?

Me too, although I think that's just the Lorelai effect.

Is the PS4 still supply constraint in the UK? If not, what kind of bump will Metal Gear and InFamous cause?

It's not freely out there like xbox one is, but large outlets like game and amazon put up the in stock signs last week. Also sony seem to be pushing the infamous bundle, be interesting if they've finally stocked up here ready for there biggest title so far.

This is good news for Microsoft.

Aaaaaand.

This is horrible news for Microsoft.

Good, because... well... the console is selling more and the game is working as a killer application.

Horrible, because they are actually creating a fan base on a game they do NOT own and which most probably will end up (maybe even in a better shape) on the concurrent console (that is, PS4, you know).

So no matter how well Titanfall sells, it's horrible news for Microsoft?

Strong TitanFall sales are building the fanbase on MS' console. Do people expect MGS5 to suddenly sell better on 360 because of the userbase discrepancy in the US over PS3? That's not how these things work. If the game is a hit on One, the second game will be a BIGGER hit on One, even if the PS4 version sells great those console owners have no reason to jump on the franchise all at once.

well PS4 games were outselling 3:1 in the UK at around Jan time

You know that chart track gives out actual monthly sales numbers so we don't have to depend on one retailer?

Yeah, but weekly sales. And it had a price-cut and free bundled game.

It's the least MS were hoping probably.

One week of doubled sales in February NPD would have been nearly 120k.

Clearly they both aren't and these are business here. They want to increase their revenue by eating into competitors market share.

Why do you think Coca Cola still bothers to advertise quite often despite practically everyone knowing what coke is?

Then why am I reading posts that Sony will get complacent if they dominate like the PS2?

Pretty much, as its only in EAs interest how well TF sells.
The question for MSFT is, how much it can do to boost sales for the xbone for a longer period than a few weeks, while still being outsold by the competition.

I don't think they are actually THAT worried about "being outsold". They are just interested in selling Xbox One, regardless of how much the competition is selling.

Of course, then they'd like to sell more than PS4 and so on, yet the primary target is to sell lots of consoles.

Talking about real world numbers: what is a typical monthly sales of Xbox One in UK? 20-30k? This translates to 5-7,000 per week.

So, a 96% bump means that last week Xbone sold maybe 10-14,000. So the jump from (presumed) February's 30,000 could be to as high as 37,000.

Right?

Because when you reach near a monopoly companies start taking liberties. e.g coke is very rarely offered by franchise restaurants (it's almost always pepsi) despite them carrying their other products. Why? because it's too damn expensive.

That's the sort of complaency their talking about.

They want more profit that doesn't necessarily mean selling more
