I want to bring attention to a new Kickstarter game called Last Life. It's episodic and focuses on atmosphere and storytelling while being a "sci-fi noir adventure game."

I really like that art style. I wonder if the animation is mo-capped. It's particularly well done.

Lumo is an isometric, arcade adventure game, of the same ilk as revered 8Bit classics such as Head Over Heels, Knightlore, Alien 8 and Solstice. You play the part of a young wizard, lost in the depths of his own castle. Explore more than 100 rooms during your adventure, solve puzzles, collect runes and spells, and work your way back to the safety of your own bedroom

Lone Wolf - 2014 (PC, Mac, Linux)
LW_Demo_04_04_2014.jpg

http://www.lonewolfgame.com/

This game is considered to be a Beat-Em Up Role Playing Game, where you take control of a character and his special fighting abilities. Akin to the art of a comic book, it relies on 2D animation for the characters in a 3D environment to give it a new style to the games of today. It can be played as a single-player game or online with other players, in several modes of game play including a Story Mode and a multiplayer Fighting Mode. The game is currently playable on Windows, Mac, and Linux and possibly Android, IOS, and other console systems such as the Playstation 4, XBOX ONE, and the Wii-U.

#screenshotsaturday with poor quality .gif. I'm gonna have to look into these new-fangled .webm thingies, right?

Attentive viewers will notice the combat system has been overhauled substantially. And the backdash move has invincibility frames, hence the player not being hurt by the sword sweep.

Scarier than The Evil Within?
Certainly scarier than the possibility of The Evil Within being disappointing.

The main character's mobility seems significantly improved, just like his attack animations. Looking good :)

Personally, I am not too fond of the webms yet though. Feel free to use whatever you want, but it seems like loading them takes way longer and they use more ressources as well, not to mention they cant be accessed everywhere (not on iOS for example) which alleviates the huge advantage of accessibility of gif.

Currently I dont think that the webms have enough advantages over gifs to merit mass usage, but maybe people are just going overboard with them and are making bigger animated images than they would with gif.

However, for a big GIF, I would prefer a link to gfycat. For instance, this gif is 13 MB and the hmtl5 version is 2 MB: http://gfycat.com/CreativePettyGreatdane

Heart Forth, Alicia is coming to Kickstarter soon and is being published by Chucklefish Games
http://www.alonsomartin.mx/hfa/2014/04/12/kickstarter-trailer-coming-soon/

I will also be working with the guys from Chucklefish Games, and even though they will not provide us with funding at any point, they’ll work with us on pushing the game to consoles and other platforms once it’s finished. They’ll also help out with marketing and PR during the campaign and during the course of development. They are, by the way, really nice and talented developers themselves who completely understand the development process, so our interaction has been very enjoyable and friendly.

Quick OP impressions:

Krafters
... is basically just a tech demo atm in which you cant do much other than aimless digging. The current state of the game is nowhere near the screenshot in the OP. The above screenshot shows everything its currently offering.

Labyrinth of Keys
... is more interesting than it seems at first, but its also kind of unfairly punishing. Its one of those games that tasks you with exploring its mechanics before you can explore the world (which I love), but it devolves into random trial and error and unfairness a bit too often. 2 examples: You walk around with a key, that key allows you to read books and open exactly ONE door. If its the wrong door, you can continue exploring, but you'll miss out on all the other books, which makes finishing the game impossible because you need the hints from the books. Now if you carefully walk 5 minutes to a place, only to step on a switch that randomly shoots out a spirit that robs your key.. and you need to walk all the way back there again, only to notice that the door you managed to open was a dud... then this game starts to ignite even my anger. Another example would be a room with 30 switches and you need to press the ONE right one. If you dont, its back to the beginning to walk to that room and try again.

Not very fun design, even if the core gameplay mechanic is intriguing.

Landslide McQueen

Incredibly short and simplistic highscore game that doesnt have much to it other than its artstyle and the wacky novelty of the "gameplay". In my opinion it doesnt quite work as a highscore game either since there isnt really room for skill/improvement.

Lost in Her Eye:

Another very simplistic game in which you only walk around and click on a multitude of objects to make them go away. Feel free to correct me in case I am missing something, but other than the incredibly fast disappearing novely of walking on someones eye.. not really interesting.

Luftrausers:
Easily the best of todays bunch. The free browser version isnt representative of the full version. Different challenges, equippable plane parts, more... everything. The controls are as tight as in the free version though. If you think the free version controls nice and thats a style of gameplay you'd want to spend more time with, the full version Luftrausers will keep you busy for a good amount of time because nailing the controls and maneuvers feels very good and satisfying. Warning though, it becomes quite hard.

Mammoth Gravity Battles:
A game about shooting a variety of weapons at targets that are affected by the gravity of different objects in space... as an asynchronous SP/MP game. Initially this demo started out with the well known puzzle style formula of "you have x shots, hit targets", but once they throw in some AI enemies, this game becomes way more interesting as you will need to figure out the correct gravity affected trajectory of a shot and move yourself within the 2D and 3D space to escape the shots of others. This could lend itself to some nice back and forth and how to strategically use shots to cover enough ground to hit an opponent. Think.. putting in golf games where you need to take in the level of the grass into account... just in 3D... around planets. Kinda cool and satisfying zipping shots around planets to hit targets, but unfortunately not much content yet. Another problem are some control issues, sometimes my ship is randomly exploding when I shoot and I cant figure out why. With some more polish and content, this could be a good game.

Toma, you need to try this prototype, I think you'll like it:

Will do, my Czar. How could I not follow one of your recommendations ;) On my shortlist for tomorrow and thanks for pointing it out again.

The newest build of Neverending Nightmares was really good. Goddamn at the soundscape in that game, on headphones. Quite a lot of stealth, like hiding in closets, or walking slowly past blind asylum patients. The new story elements are really intriguing and hint to something more personal.

I need it now! Too bad that the game probably not going to run on my laptop. D:
Well the devs are using Unity, which usually allows for some pretty well optimized games. Nitronic Rush ran pretty nicely on my laptop and this seems a bit less intense without the crazy motion blur and neon lights and everything that NR had. So who knows?

You were on the way to a recycling process when fortunately for you - and unfortunately for the environment - you accidentally ran off.
Now your goal is to escape from the facility, which is an extremely difficult task due to the fact that you are a battery without legs. Equipped with a limited number of electric beams, you can connect to walls, move or destroy objects, turn switches, and charge generators.
You also have the ability to jump or push off the walls - the rest is up to physics and gravity.

Here Be Dragons - 2014 (PC, Mac, IOS, Android)

http://www.herebedragonsgame.com/

Someone had to defeat dragons and tritons, beforehand. Someone had to vanquish bloody cults. Someone had to banish supernatural ghost ships. The information about these deeds is missing from the archives, and you can’t find it in any great statesmen’s memoir. The knowledge of the “Avant Armada” was completely erased.
Fortunately, there are a few sources that tell the story of fearless men who followed royal orders and eradicated Evil in the uncharted lands.
“Here Be Dragons” describes these days.

Don't think we've featured 'Transmigration: Into Darkness Peering' before. The official website launched today. Game has a really great look, especially in motion (see looping video on website). Story pitch sounds intriguing:

Meet Joseph. Let’s be frank, Joseph is not the most cheerful fellow. And he’s working for a company. Yes, a company. To tell you the truth, we suspect that he might not even remember what the company does anymore. But he’s there every morning, queueing to clock in. Oh, and it seems he’s been having trouble with sleeping lately. In fact there are nights when he can’t sleep at all. There are also days when he considers visiting that Transmigration Clinic they’ve opened nearby...

Just read about Caffeine on IndieStatik. The premise sounds intriguing:

Everyone knows caffeine is an addictive drug, but we usually just write it off as some ancillary, necessary component to waking up in the morning. Some people slurp on Mountain Dew; others guzzle down black coffee. Regardless of your beverage choice, Dylan Browne is envisioning a world where humanity is basically a slave to this drug’s addictive qualities. In the world of Caffeine, you find yourself suddenly conscious aboard a caffeine mining station without any recollection of how you’re arrived.

The game centers around purely exploration. Designed to be a psychological horror experience, Caffeine doesn’t focus on any combat scenarios. It’s created as a solely exploratory game, with extensive logs and notes scattered throughout the entire station for you to learn more about the overarching lore of Caffeine. Browne hasn’t expanded beyond that general premise in his description of the game, but has hinted that there is probably something else aboard this vessel.

There is an Indiegogo campaign to fund the game.

May well ask you folks but is anyone playing the Invisible Inc Alpha/Early Access? I heard it got a decent sized update end of last month. Really need some turn based, tactical fun but want to know how it is at the mo and no one I know has taken the plunge yet.

Cheers in advance.

This worth getting into? I am sorely tempted but I'm just a little concerned it might be a little thin right now as early access games can be at times.

It doesnt have much contet yet tbh, but the content that is there is already very convincing and I am sure this game is worth it on full release.

I'd recommend grabbing the cheaper pre-release version if you are interested anyway. I also posted my video impressions on my YT channel last month or so.

I haven't spent a ton of time with it (bought mainly to support Klei for their superb track record and excellent treatment of customers) but from what I have played, it is definitely early with a ton of potential. Watching how Don't Starve evolved over the course of the beta I would be surprised if someone who likes turn-based tactics didn't like the game when it is finished. I haven't played the latest update yet but as soon as I finish Shadowrun Dragonfall I will give it a try and report back if my views differ much from whatever More_Badass posts.

That being said, if you split the pack with someone you can get the game for $8.50/each and that is a hell of a deal to support a great dev.

So to be honest when I first bought Invisible Inc., I regretted the purchase. It felt more like a tech demo, than an alpha, which I guess I should expected, but still I regretted buying the game. After playing a few times, I uninstalled, planning to come back after a few updates and see how the game had progressed

And on par with Klei's fantastic Don't Starve support, Invisible Inc. has grown and improved exponentially since my initial time with the game. The UI has been improved and streamlined. Guard patrols have been altered, allowing for better planning and stealth tactics. Progession has been implemented, as you move from floor to floor, acquire upgrades, research new skills, and unlock new agents. More diverse hazards such as the sound bug were added and hacking was made deeper thanks to viruses and programs you can acquire. More dangerous enemies and security measures like the Psi Corp.

The more recent update added augmentations, special guards, new actions, and a tutorial. The upcoming update will add new enemies, a new HUD, and dangerous new drones. Here's the trailer for the current build (9th): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8oMT0fbuzw

So to answer your question, I feel like Invisible Inc. has expanded greatly since release and while there is more content to come, the game is very playable at the moment. It's challenging and the turn-based take on stealth is very unique. The cyberpunk corporate espionage angle is icing on the cake IMO

Really looking forward to Heart, Forth Alicia. I don't think it will take very long before it reaches its goal.

Thanks, and hopefully. I'm just happy to see that we're bringing in a few backers already despite holding off on any sort of PR till the morning. Gotta give those loyal followers dibs on the limited tiers.

I plan to work on a thread for the campaign in the morning (unless someone else makes one first). Although I partially fear that "Metroidvania RPG" in the thread title might turn some people off

Oh, and what position were you on the dev team again?

Thanks, appreciate it! Been a long week.

"Andrew Silverman is an enigma wrapped in a mystery shrouded in the veil of sworn secrecy, quietly managing the tasks keep everything running smoothly for the rest of the team including business, PR, marketing, community management, writing overly wordy Kickstarter biographies, testing and QA, and every other bit of miscellany that would keep talented people from doing talented things. "

Basically, I've been running project management/business/development assistance for the past 6 months or so, which I know isn't the coolest thing in the world, but it's been enough to keep me busy, especially with the Kickstarter prep the last 6 weeks or so.

"Metroidvania RPG" is something that we struggled with for a long time, but eventually settled on because it came off as the most genuine and direct answer. I'll see if I can dig up the list of alternatives somewhere. It's long and terrible. But, if you can think of something for us to transition to at some point I'd be more than happy to hear it.

Let me know if you need anything for the thread, I've got lots of goodies lying around that didn't make it to the Kickstarter.

Cheers folks. Yeah even at this early stage the pricing looks great and like all of Klei's previous stuff (well maybe not Shank 2 as much hahaha).

Backed Heart Forth, Alicia. Ugh, the art... I'm so jealous! I've been watching this game for some time now, and I'm really excited for its future!
