It's free content. I'm going to download it, probably play it, and if I like it, I'll buy the full version.
I'm happy with what they announced since they never had to give anybody anything in the first place. This thread is just... insane.
Back in 2013.
Pretty much this.
Some of you guys are genuinely fucking insane if you thought you were getting a multi million £/$ budget game for absolutely free or for what 1£/$ p/m it works out as on too of everything else with PS+.
The fact that we're getting what we're getting with no content apart from tracks & cars held back for not a penny more than the + subscription is good enough for me when there was no solid concrete definition of what we were getting.
If they said we were getting X cars, X tracks, X countries and then went back on that, then fair enough. However they said "slightly" and "a few" all of which is open to interpretation, which in the case of some people, it was interpreted incorrectly or below whatever fantasy they had in their heads.
Nope. Just interpreted what was said by rushy at face falue.
How dare I.

Read the thread becoming coming to your delusional conclusions. They promised that wilth PS plus edition you'll be able to beat the game, which you can't now. It's Sony who has backtracked.
No they didn't. They didn't promise anything.
They said you could earn the Platinum Trophy. Nothing more, nothing less.
Where in the world does "slightly less" and "missing a few tracks and cars" means the game, minus 80% of content. It is you who is living in some fantasy land.Pretty much this.

Yeah, ok, I'm slightly less piqued by some of the comments now ... There are still some though. I think I've got an idea what's happened here: Sony needed a launch title for PS4 (at that point they wouldn't know how well the PS4 would sell), so they decided to release a cut down version of Driveclub, a game that wouldn't be 'entirely' finished by launch. They also knew there wouldn't be a library of older games for PS+ so they decided to add Driveclub to PS+ and add content as time went on. This way they would have had a AAA titles for PS+. After the PS4 for a success and clearly sold simply on hype, they decided to delay the game and add in all the content they were going to add AFTER it released on PS+. They were then left with a difficult choice: Do they remove it from PS+ entirely or do they still put it on PS+ and decide which content to remove? I think they went with the latter because it would upset more people if it was removed.
That to me sounds like the likely scenario.

PS+ is fine as it is. Do I enjoy every game that has come out for it? No (imo mercenary kings and outlast were meh). But I found Don't Starve and Resogun to be great.I'd prefer if Sony just went the Xbox route and started pumping money into enhancements to the operating system. So far PS Plus hasn't really been that great outside of Resogun, and if this Driveclub package is Plus at its best then good golly gee.
Sounds about right.
TLDR; it's not that the PS+ version is smaller than it was going to be in Nov 2013, it's that the full game launching in Oct 2014 is much larger than it was otherwise going to be at initial launch.
Either way, we get a pretty beefy demo to try for free (I consider PS+ free... it practically is!) and if it's not your cup of tea then don't pay any more for it. I think the fact they are willing to put it out to such a large (and important) section of their fanbase (PS+ members) means they must have confidence in it's ability to impress.
What if they cancelled driveclub tomorrow and instead gave you a side scrolling platform game from the 80s as your monthly PS4 game...
Interpreted? Did you really?
I mean E3 was almost a year ago, and I still knew that this game will be a trial+locked contents until upgrade.
There is no way that statement somehow got twisted as a full released game for PS+ after a year.
Not unexpected but still super scummy when you go back and read how the PS+ version was promoted to lure in customers of both the console and PS+ subs at launch, a year's worth of delays and what we get is just a glorified demo. Shameful tactics.
I'm interested in DC but not enough to buy the full game unless it has been bumped to 60fps, so the PS+ version was aimed at people like me.
It's a matter of principle really, if Nintendo/Microsoft would have done something similar the angry mobs would be rioting their offices pitchforks in hand, the "rage" is well deserved: it's a matter of principle and something I would have expected old "bully" Sony to employ, not the guys at the helm now. And yes, keeping your promises and customers happy IS part of running a business and make sure that you'll eventually cash in on the goodwill with profits, which is exactly what Sony has been doing since the PSN outage... 'till today I guess.
Then maybe you should inform yourself better and read Evo's past quotes (which incidentally are in the OP... yeah) on the PS+ and what has became if that version's content now.
Interpretation and assumption is why so many people are dissapointed.
If you interpreted what was said as receiving the full game, then that's your fault, no-one else's.
The whole argument being made about 40 of 50 bucks not being "a few" also doesn't make sense. For that outcome the only way that argument would work would be by looking at tracks or countries or cars in isolation in comparison to the full amount. That however wouldn't work in this case as they are neglecting to count the fact that every mode, etc is also available which holds value as 'content'.
I'm gonna laugh if this game sucks and all this complaining was for naught.
But you can't do it now.
50% of what? Is there a universal "few" measurement?
I don't know how I can react to this without catching moderator heat so I'll just type this sentence and leave it at that.
SONY has not back tracked on shit...what RUSHY said like 6 months ago may not be the case...because ya know, things change....Read the thread becoming coming to your delusional conclusions. They promised that wilth PS plus edition you'll be able to beat the game, which you can't now. It's Sony who has backtracked.
Please do.
I want to know how you would define a non-quantitative word.
How much is too much, how little is too little, a few here and a few there?
So what does a vague statement like a few assets will be taken out mean to the average consumers?
Can you at least provide me your board overview on this subject?
I'm not demanding Evolution studios 'Fix this' or anything like that, as that would be entitled. But at the same time I'm just curious as to what led us to this point.
Confirmed
Ok, corrected I stand! Thanks, missed that part about the single player.
welp! looks like they should've saved the driveclub news for e3, lol.

I can't believe people are disappointed by this. It's free. Buy the game if you want more.
Also lol at your complaining over paying for PS+, are you intending to stop playing MP anytime soon?
Of course not.
It's not free. Get me a year of Plus if it's free.
Plus is already worth it. I bet most people in this thread already have it.It's not free. Get me a year of Plus if it's free.
Of course it's not free, just like Driveclub it's not free.
Want to plat it? Buy it like you bought a PS+ subscription.
Man, this thread's kinda ugly. PS+ seems like crazy value for money to me, regardless of how much or how little they give away of Drive Club. That they've (possibly) scaled back the free content as development times (and presumably costs) have lengthened greatly doesn't surprise me at all, and it seems totally fair. It doesn't surprise me at all that you can't get a platinum trophy, bearing in mind you won't have access to the full game. Not sure why it was suggested that you could (and I know who suggested it initially).
I dunno man, this thread bums me out. Feels like one of those 'this is why we can't have nice things' moments.
Plus is already worth it. I bet most people in this thread already have it.
Yes. Never was, it has always been Drive Club PS+ Edition not Drive Club Free Edition. PS+ subscription was always part of the equation. As a PS+ subscriber you get a basic version of the game and you can upgrade to the full version for less than the retail version. So you're agreeing that the Driveclub demo isn't free then?
Yeah, kinda. As you say though, that's a side-effect of the smaller catalogue. Still, in the last 6 months (so ~£25), they've given away Resogun, Contrast, Don't Starve, Outlast, Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition, and Mercenary Kings. That's in addition to any discounts on titles (can't remember if there have been any). It's not bad, it just looks worse in comparison to the PS3 and the Vita.It does feel a bit like PS+ is launching on PS4 with less value than PS3, but a lot of that is down to it only just having launched, whereas on PS3 it was mid-gen so there was lots of back catalogue to draw upon.
Yeah, I have the same thoughts. I think we'll see more 'cut-down' titles like Drive Club too.I think there is a risk that Sony might settle into a 'one game per month' or lower priced titles for a while, and if their subscriber numbers stay high, they might not feel the need to improve upon that - a combination of lack of titles to offer, and PS+ being needed for multiplayer.
As someone with a PS3, PS4, and a Vita, the service is bonkers for me. I don't even play online. If the games soften, I can see myself keeping the service just for cloud saves (and access to the titles I've already acquired). So I think PS+ might soften for the next 12-24 months generally. Still great value for me. Personally I subscribe for the games, and online is a bonus. If the games disappeared I'd stop subscribing and just play offline.
