Very cool man.

I feel silly about this, but I just figured out you can create a collage with your pictures using lightroom. Been using lightroom for about 8 months.

This set is my first attempt at portrait photography, I'm asking friends around for practice. I agreed to do a wedding in July, so yeah I need that practice! Good thing about the wedding is that it happens to be outside with natural light and plenty of it, it should be alright I hope!

Edit: For the portrait I used a Nikon D7100 with a 50mm f/1.8 lens using Aperture Priority. For the landscape pictures I used the same camera, but a different lens (18-200mm f/3.5-5.6). I mostly use lightroom 5 for editing images.

So I thought I would ask for some advice on here. I'm looking to get into the photography hobby, nothing professional just something as a side activity; however, I know just the very basics of photography so I was wondering if any of you guys had some good boom recommendations on the subject? Something that can get me started. I'd appreciete any suggestions.

My sister took these pictures when she took a trip to Mexico earlier in the year. She was in the state of San Luis Potosi. She took my old Nikon D60 with a regular 18-55mm lens and man I think that old thing can rock some good quality pictures.

Usually understanding exposure is the book people recommend.

Everyone, if you host your pictures on flickr, 500px, etc please leave some sort of url to you gallery or maybe at least some info about the camera/lens settings you used.

If you click on any of my photos they should link you back to my flickr account with all the exif data. to be honest that's the only way I can remember the settings most of the time.

Well I have processed all my film and I got a total of 1 shot from 9 rolls, bastard sticking shutter has cost me damn near all my film shots from my trip.

This is the only survivor - Bronica ETRS 75mm f2.8 (with sticky shutter) on Kodak TMax 400

Well first off, what would you like to take photos of, what draws your attention?

First thing what kind of camera do you have? Second the things you have to learn about photography are 3 things. Shutter Speed, ISO and Aperture, know what each one does and how to balance each.

Going from Nikon D3200 to D800. What are the biggest features that I should tinker with? I have a Nikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S and Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lens.

I'm getting a D800 because I'm really into photography now, I'm eyeing the best lenses which would be too cropped for a non-full frame sensor, I'm about to do some more serious traveling and astrophotography and I want to make it count, and because I like nice things.

Long time lurker of this thread and I am very new to photography. I have a Canon Rebel XS EOS with it's stock lens but I also have a EF 50mm f1.8 II Lens.

I recently purchased a EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Lens. Pretty stoked for the lens.

Here are a few pictures I have taken with my Canon

I've just started shooting some film and this is always on my mind. I put the first roll in the dark hoping to squeeze some extra shots, but heard a loud sound when I spooled the film for the second picture and opened the camera in light only to see that nothing was wrong -_-

How do people here scan their film though? I can get it scanned where I process it, but the process seems to be designed for grandparents (pay extra and get a CD with the pictures...) and they don't mention what you get filetype and resolution wise.

Love the pictures guys, sweet stuff.

Went to a show couple of hours ago, and took some shots. Place is called "The Stone Fox" located in Nashville. Ended up shooting with ISO levels of 1600 up to 4000.

Another one from the backyard. Handheld macro lens, flash on cord using HSS to allow some chance of getting a sharp image. Still took a number of tries.

Haha, yeah done that myself. My old Olympus OM1n can bet a bit funny to load sometimes. Usually these days I just sacrifice a few extra frames by winding on allot with the back open. If in doubt buy a dark bag you can pop the camera in to check any loading issues.

I develop all my own B+W films so have a basic epson flatbed scanner (V500) and a 120mm negative holder from http://www.betterscanning.com/ that I also use when I get my colour negs processed. I have seen a few specialist mail order places offer high res scans after processing here in the UK though.

I had forgotten about a roll of Kodak ektar 100 I shot with some different (ie working..) lenses, its only one roll but its better than nothing

Bronica ETRS with a 40mm f4 on Kodak Ektar 100

Man I love medium format Ektar, I need to get my remaining rolls out the fridge and use them :)

Yeah its lovely film isn't it? and still pretty cheap in comparison to some films. I shot a roll of Portra 160 as well but sadly it was with the broken lens :'(

Here's a first pass at some shooting I did tonight on the whirlpool galaxy. Too sleepy to do more than stack and level adjust. There is always tomorrow to clean it up. Bleh... looking it it here made me realize how bad my polar alignment was tonight.

Nice.

Location and equipment?

I'm going to west Texas in a few weeks with a D800 + AF-S 14-24 mm f/2.8 NIKKOR. I'm considering renting a 24 mm f/1.8 prime. I will stack as well, though if someone rented out astrotracs I'd get that as well.

So many good shots on this page, guys. Like not only in terms of how vivid and well done the picture quality is, but the composition and subjects are top notch.

Good stuff people.

Heist, fantastic wedding stuff. Were these just for fun or were you the official photographer?

I really should get back into photography more.

The image was taken in Northern VA in a pretty badly light polluted area (and a really bright moon). I did this with my new off axis guide port using a webcam to guide and a IR modified Canon 6D for the imaging. The scope is a F/10 11" SCT and I used a light polution filter in line with the off axis guider. Everything is mounted on a german equatorial mount which is controlled by PHD guiding. The biggest problem with that image was that it was my first time using the off axis guider and my PHD settings were not great for 2800mm guiding. Still these were 10 minute exposures and even with the jumpy guide settings the stars aren't too elongated. I'm going to try again tonight to really get the settings locked down for exposures up to 30 minutes in length.

If you want a cheap mount which is more than good enough for sub 100mm fl you can build a barn door configuration:

http://www.astropix.com/BGDA/SAMPLE2/SAMPLE2.HTM

You might want to rent a Rokinon 14mm wide angle. It's a pretty good lens for long exposure sky work and really inexpensive.

Missed a pretty sweet lightning display by not carrying my camera most of the day. I went to see the new Xmen film. Anyways, I did manage to get this one about an two hours or so ago before it started raining again.

Any advice when it comes to taking pictures of this subject?

I whole boat load of luck.

Nikon D300, F/3.2, 2.5 seconds, ISO 100. There was enough natural light that those were about the only settings that would allow for a decent exposure with out the natural light taking over and making the lightning invisible. Judging by the file names I took about 190 photos during the storm and only kept about 60 (and only about 20 of them are really good). Believe it or not, but the color saturation is only slightly higher than the orig RAW.

So I bought Lightroom and tested out some editing on it vs PSE, and I like. This is just a first attempt at using Lightroom, hoping to get better as I go.

Some pics from a bboy competition I just came back from.
