Halo 4 |OT2| TURBO

With the leaked video, not sure how I feel about how MM will be handled since I'll be playing a lot of CE/2.

Anyway they could just let me search Halo 2 and give me 3 Halo 2 map options? I understand that there's a lot of things running this but it seems like somewhat of an oversight. Or they are trying to avoid populations dying out quickly, but CE/4 players seem like the ones that will get hurt the most. Either way, glad we have customs if it comes down to it.

Yea that sounds awful. I really hope that's not the way it ends up for release

Re comments about being a cover shooter, I meant it seemed a weird thing to implement because players would be forced behind cover. I don't really see how that ability would work if you weren't snapping behind cover.

If the slide changes your Spartan's hitbox like Evade, I can see a lot of complaints over it. Maybe we're better off without the slide and just default Thrusters.

At least from what we see in the trailer, they're a lot rounder and less angular than previous Spartan designs as a whole, and they definitely feel a bit more bulky, akin to Reach, compared to Halo 4. On the other hand Locke's armor definitely feels more akin to the streamlined Halo 4 style.

And football jokes aside, I actually really liked a lot about the Ricochet armor.

Ground pound doesn't really make much sense. Flying into the ground with that amount of force won't do that. I just hope it's not an inherent ability like H4 sprint... if it's an on map pick up then it's fine. Sliding and cover really worry me as well... I can just see so much potential frustration. Hopefully the beta clears all this up.

Don't Spartans weigh like a tonne or some crazy shit?

A tonne of metal hitting the ground with what looks like thrusters propelling you towards the ground kinda makes sense.

People looking for realism in halo are really playing the wrong series.

Aside from the debate on realism, it just seems like a quirky mechanic that will lose it's novelty quickly. In the end I can just see it being annoying rather than a necessary and fun addition.

I don't know, I look at it for specific scenarios.

Halo 2s ascension for example. When standing up top on the main sniper tower, potentially jumping off the top and smashing down to the banshee walkway on top of approaching enemies sounds pretty cool to me.

Or dropping from the very top of waterworks and smashing straight through a warthog carrying your flag.

It all depends on the specifics of how it's integrated, but it can work.

Minimizing the amount of time you spend hanging in the air is probably a good reason to use it too.
Never even looked at it like that. 343 is gonna go this route regardless, but it really might not be a bad thing. It's all in the execution. Ground smash could end up being really useful for map movement, exactly like you said. Low shield and being chased, using the smash to reduce hangtime could be what keeps you alive. I can see players using it strategically. Again it all depends on how 343 executes these abilities.

Also, you gonna pick up a One and the MCC Hydra?

Seems a bit too soon to freak about stuff given that there's an easily accessible beta.

The beta is very tempting. On one hand I'm not sure I want to buy an Xbox One if Halo 5 is going to go the way of Reach and 4. On the other hand how will I know what it plays like unless I buy a console, the MCC, and play the beta.

Decisions are hard.

"So we at 232 listened to the overwhelmingly negative response people had to having spartan abilities in your loadouts. As a response, we've integrated them into everything! No loadouts necessary!"

I'm reserving judgment on "Spartan abilities" until we are shown more/beta time.

Don't really like the sliding mechanic in other games however.

You know what I think is funny? In this (I know people don't like this youtube and whatnot...but I don't care. I'm just trying to show that there is a "casual" consensus against an unnecessary game mechanic) he's trying to assuage people that there is a possibility that there won't be sprint. He is hoping there won't be sprint in Halo 5.

...

Here's to hoping sprint goes away.

The amount of things worse than sprint in modern FPS games is innumerable. Why does everyone keep bringing this up the most?

Sprint isn't the best thing, but there are far worse.

The simple fact that a higher base speed and no sprint would make Reach and Halo 4 much better Halo games is why ppl bitch about Sprint so much.

It's so fucking simple, it's not a hard thing to do, but somehow Sprint is still becoming the standard for Halo.

Yeah it's a shame they are just sacrificing smart maps and gameplay for things like sprint and jetpacks. Both force the maps to just be gigantic, gaping, open maps that require a super accurate DMR. Not fun.

Throwing my hat in the "Halo 5 spartans look weird as hell, why can't we go back to the basics" bucket. Halo 4's armor design was laughably terrible, hope they correct their ways (along with a lot of other things) in Halo 5.

Naded streaming Halo 2 4v4's on XBC. Playing with Ogre 2 and a couple Reach kids, versus, as the Twitch chat referred to them, "Basement Adults that play XBC H2 24/7."

That is the Halo competitive community for you. Anyone who isn't a pro is a nerd/geek/no-lifer.

I do like all the former pros that have been playing Halo 2 lately, though. Looks like they are preparing for a potential Halo 2 MLG tournament at the end of the year.

Pretty much, or somehow they are no life nerds because they decided to stick with the good Halo game that you supposedly idolize. They play for the love of the game, while you jump from shitty game to shitty game trying to crack into Top 32 like a fucking Sudd.

I've said this exact same shit in many a salty Twitch chat, and it goes right over their head.

I look forward to the slide ability. I can't count how many times I died in Halo because I couldn't crouch in time.

I always really like Crysis 2 multiplayer. The player attributes were cool and uniform across the board. Too bad the gameplay was lacking. Stuff like the slide and double jumps were so sick

How much can what they learn from the beta really change for a game, even this early though? I'm curious. Maybe Fyre can give some insight. I think the biggest changes would be seeing if any of these new Spartan Abilities are overpowered, nerfing them before launch, making sure weapons are balanced. No need to see a repeat of the boltshot. But if let's say the overwhelming majority of players on forums everywhere say the new spartan abilities are pure junk, would they just scrap them? In the end, they'll still choose to go with their vision.

“Do you know what leadership means, HaloGAF? It means that the person in charge gets second-guessed by every clever little twat with a mouth. But if he starts second guessing himself, that’s the end– for him and the clever little twats, for everyone.”

They might not remove the spartan abilities completely, but having a beta can help them decide any teaks they should make/take. I just hope people are actually helpful during the beta. If something sucks, say it sucks, but actually give reasons why so they can improve on it. No way 343 is doing a beta so early if they didn't actually want community input on the game. Our opinions will definitely help shape Halo 5.

By the way, in that leaked video (the one that showed the Blur cinematic in action) the person demoing the game mentioned that there will be new content in the beta each week. I can see them swapping out spartan abilities in and out to see what sticks.

We're currently presuming there's a year between the beta and retail, right? That's a really long time in game development. I would assume we're getting a second beta closer to Halo 5's release as well.

Well if launch for Guardians is November 2015 and the beta wraps up in January, slightly under a year. But who knows how long before launch when a game needs to be "gold". You think we'll get a second beta?

I also hope Slide mechanic is real, since if there is one thing Halo mp needs it is another way to cheat yourself out of a fight by a button press.

what if the slide goes only one straight forward direction? making that escape factor difficult to accomplish while in a fight.
