If no check points is the way they are making their raids super hard that sounds like an absolutely miserable experience for everyone, matchmade or not.
Waypoints and checkpoints are not the same thing. I think it will be broken up in phases based on Luke's description. Not sure though. You're just not going to have arrows telling you which way to go or what to do... You and your team will have to figure it out.If no check points is the way they are making their raids super hard that sounds like an absolutely miserable experience for everyone, matchmade or not.
He means there are no checkpoints for dying AFAIKIn what world does waypoints(a little blip on the screen/map that tells you where to go) equals a check point?
But, but... I thought this wasn't an MMO?
#toldyouso
Did they open up the moon on the last day or something? Highest I could ever do was a level 6 strike mission.Eh I really would prefer if they offered optional matchmaking.
I think Bungie underestimates the difficulty of their modes when pitted up against co-op gameplay. 4 player co-op in the Halo games made legendary difficulty a joke, and after 7-8 hours of purely doing the level 8 strike in the beta with randoms, I only failed once. Literally, only one time during the strike do I remember all 3 of us dieing.
Nah I get what you mean, I was just being witty.Do you get what I mean?
that something i try to know too. If there is an ID system it will be harder to find 5 friends, if there is no ID system and can farm raids as much as they want, people will farm their gear pretty fast.
FYI the Raid has 0 way points and doesn't tell you what to do at all.
In what world does waypoints(a little blip on the screen/map that tells you where to go) equals a check point?
No but then have options in matchmaking. Or have a party finder like MMOs do with various restrictions on. It just seems Bungie doesnt want to do any work and wants you do the finding.
I suppose that makes sense. You don't want folks who possibly aren't going to work together with the rest of the team in a useful way, and you definitely don't want any dicks being apart of your team, which is always possible when you're dealing with random people.
Well, one more thing in Destiny I'll never be able to actually take part in due to time constraints and a lack of people who can coordinate 2-3 hours of their time to doing it.
I'll echo someone else's sentiment, it's my time to waste, if I want to match make to do it, then I should be able to.
Considering that Destiny is some bizarre FPS MMO hybrid and none of us have played a full product you also don't understand what a Destiny 'raid' truly is. You're defending Bungie without even giving the slightest concern for valid points an arguments.
If you're here and not on last gen platforms this really shouldn't be an issue.I won't be able to complete these then, I have nobody to play online with.
If you only have 30 minutes to play and you matchmake into a Raid and then quit, then you are wasting other people's time.
There are people in DestinyGAF to play withOh come one. I don't have 6 people that I play Destiny with, so we're going to be screwed from the start. The least Bungie could've done is allow us to decide for ourselves if we want to pick the positives of matchmaking over the negatives or not.
Destiny keeps getting more disappointing for me.
There are enough people on DestinyGAF(At least for the first few months) to Raid withBut if I have 2-3 hours to play, but no one else I know does, then I should be able to roll the dice on a thrown together group and take my chances if I'm inclined to do that.
Terrible for me. I don't have 1 friend, let alone 5. They should really just have an option for randoms. I like playing with random people.
So my option is to team up with random members of GAF if I want to play it at all. If anybody wants to team up with me even though I won't be chatting at all, well then fantastic. Now we just need 4 more...
FF14 raid party is 8 people and last bosses are quite hard. It´s only 6 people, that´s why i think it can´t really be that hard. Having 6 people knowing what to do and do it right isn´t that hard but i will definately follow how the destiny community are doing.
The typical experience in "raids" for people that have zero dedication and pain tolerance is that they wipe in the first 5 minutes and break up half a hour later. At least you had the chance to have some fun during those 2 hours of play. I can't imagine a lot of people willing to spend 30 minutes to START playing before moving on to something else.

6 players is the min threshold for MASSIVE multiplayer?

Then you fundamentally do not understand what a 'raid' truly is.
I'm trying to not sound like a dick, but it is true. Raids take a significant time investment. Period.
This is a terrible idea.
WHAT is the harm in allowing matchmaking? How does it hurt ANYONE?
You want to get friends together and do it? Fine, but to tell solo players and people who only have a couple of friends getting destiny that they can't do this or have to resort to the old "/shout lfg for raid" ? That is stupid design decision.
I love how you just imply that Bungie did this because they just felt like it, and that they didn't spend weeks of playtesting, rebuilding, discussing, tweaking, and optimizing the shit out of this mode.
How much do you know about the game exactly? Enough to make a hard statement like that? I don't think you do.
You can merely speculate on what is and isn't better because you interpret three sentences in a certain way. I have some faith in the fact that Bungie knows what the fuck they are doing.

This hurts my brainThis makes it sound more a MMORPG than most MMORPG nowadays.

Again.. Bungie has said they invited a top clan to test the Raid. That clan put in a total of 16 hours in attempt to clear and could not. If this is true, then it's more difficult than pretty much anything we've seen in an FPS before.
Indeed. You would think streamlining and simplifying this for console players would have been a priority.
Isn't this every raid until people find out how to do it?
This is a terrible idea.

But if the end result is still fireteams stomp matchmakers, then the result is the same as raids. A poor experience. The fireteam gets no challenge and the matchmakers get stomped. Clearly that is a bad experience. We can't allow the possibility of that, so kill PvP matchmaking too. If people want to do PvP, they just need to go to the Tower and find other like-minded people to play with them or join their friends. That way, every single PvP match ever will be a well-rounded fireteam vs fireteam match. This has absolutely nothing to do with what I said at all. The level of coordination involved in a high level PvE encounter like a Raid is far more demanding than that of Pre-made PvP.
That's a fair assessment. I haven't played many traditional MMOs so I'm not familiar with the shortcomings of those systems. Coming from Defiance I found very little of Destiny reminding me that it was an MMORPG. I was tackling this from an ME3 MP perspective. In that case the developers claimed the newest high difficulty mode would be extremely difficult. The masses found it difficult, but for some it was quickly mastered and pub grouping became a great way to keep things interesting. Groups were just there to speed run the instance or complete it with unique setups that increased the difficulty. In that case grouping was similar to Detiny GAF going into a PVP match thus removing all difficulty to quickly roll over the enemy and stat pad.But forming a Pre-Made group is already an entry gate that people are complaining about. Having a gear-check style entry gate would still net complaints. Complaints from one group that they have to dedicate a ton of time to reach a gear check qualification to even try the Raid content and complaints from another group that people having the gear doesn't prove they know how to play the Raid content.
All of this stuff has happened before in MMORPGs. There are two solutions that are currently used. Players either have to manually form groups for Raids (the most common solution) or WoW's solution of Looking For Raid, which by necessity, had to lower the difficulty level extensively to cut down on the possibility of players having a poor experience.

How are GAF randoms, in practice, better than IRL randoms? I don't know 99% of this board.
Some random person who knows thingsWait what? where did you get this?
Because we can chew out the GAF randoms if they wimp outHow are GAF randoms, in practice, better than IRL randoms? I don't know 99% of this board.
There are a lot of people in these threads with their only sole purpose being to hate on the game. They don't like that they HAVE to ADS, or they don't like that "bungie screwed microsoft", or they are livid cause PS owners get something they don't, or the game is not big enough. 99 reasons to hate on Destiny.
Lots of ulterior motives regarding Destiny in these threads. Lots of entitlement and armchair devs. That 4.6 million number that was released today as far as Beta participation goes only served to make a lot of them angrier imo. LOTS of people WANT to see the game fail because of silly little console wars bullshit. Bungie has earned my money based on their track record and the beta.
I'm sure Bungie is going to put out a stinker as their first new IP in years. Yeah, right. I think the biggest population of haters are the Halo die hards. Destiny fucks them three ways, it's not Halo, It's not a Microsoft exclusive and it is a direct competitor to the franchise.
Well I dislike this. I highly doubt this raid is really that hard, plus aside from PS3 every console comes with a mic so it isn't as if the randoms can't talk they generally choose not to. This is kinda bullshit, adding the option for a match made run wouldn't hurt anything.
