Suicide in games generally make me squeemish. So when I saw someone walking up a stepladder to commit suicide, I was pretty disturbed. Then seeing Ibuki's body made me sad. Made me somewhat relieved to find out that Ibuki was not killed due to suicide or hanging her body.

Nagito's Junko hand thing, the state Nagito's body was found in, and what the Ultimate Despairs did were all disturbing as well, but none really get me as squeemish as suicide (except maybe what the Ultimate Despairs did).

Finding Ibuki and Nagito's bodies disturbed me, but the only moment in the series in which I felt legitimately frightened was after Leon's execution when the students observe his limp body and the final bloody baseball rolls towards them. Sent several dozens chills down my spine and made my skin crawl when I first saw it.

Yeah, that was still the most disturbing execution by far.

The ones in DR2 were pretty tame. Not that I necessarily want them to be more upsetting, but I was told they were pretty crazy, and I didn't really get that vibe at all. (Peko's was the hardest hitting one, but that was partly due to the fact that I thought she was holding Fuyuhiko's severed head for a second.)

I remember when I got the bad ending in DR1 for Kyoko where she was slowly on the belt sending her to be crushed to death, while trying to put on a brave face until the last moment. that was some heavy stuff.

Agreed. Leon's left that impact of "OH GOD THIS IS WHAT'LL HAPPEN TO THE BLACKENED" much better, both to the characters & the players, compared to Teruteru's.

Oh god, when this happened with Makoto, I thought I got the bad ending that I heard of & it freaked me out because you're just WAITING, as it slowly gets closer & louder. It didn't help with Kyoko, it actually did crush her & there was some crunching sound effects to go with it.

Wow, I was hoping they could do it like IF & include it as an unlockable (perhaps in AE if we get it or LE items), but that would be a lot of work for them along with the game. I also heard that it's 2 volumes.

It is 2 volumes and the main problem is that it is an actual light novel not something included with the game like IF is. So, they'll need to go through the whole licensing hell with it, translate and localize and deal with actually printing it too.

Basically light novels are something NISA has never done before so it would be a lot for them to do.

Yeah, it's two volumes. If you just buckled down and read it, you could probably finish it in a day, but it took me about a week to read through it.

Seriously... I'll never forget the sheer horror of going through that execution; unsure if I made the right or wrong choice...

I repeated Ch. 2 last night and noticed something awkward in how he said that the World Ender ended the world and it's embarassing to the point that it was most likely named by elementary students. AE's kids are from Hope's Peak elementary school, right? When I read this, I thought it was some kind of foreshadowing that a World Ender organization really exists and they may be explored further on the spinoff. I might be overthinking things but I just can't help but wonder.

Yay finished! (both the game and reading all 60+ pages of this spoiler thread ) My thoughts on the game are kinda all over the place so I shall attempt to order them a bit...

The best thing about DR2 is Nagito
I absolutely freaking love Nagito. His presence made the game for me, he was always doing crazy things (mannn Chapter 5), talking like he was insane, stirring people up and manipulating people/situations/evidence and all those mood swings...ahhhh he was the beeeessst. He was so out there that Chapter 6 just didn't feel very impressive at all :| My reaction was pretty much 'oh, it's just Junko again'. Don't get me wrong, I thought Junko was amazing in DR1, but her reappearance just felt like a rehash. I guess it was partially because I had somehow convinced myself that the one controlling monokuma had to be one of the 16 students, and even though remnants indicates more than one, I thought it was referring to one of the students being the mastermind/remnants of despair. I would have been totally blown away if any of the survivors was the one behind the killing game. But in the end it was just Junko again

I got pretty annoyed with the game for not letting me bond with Nagito in certain chapters Then when I could finally chat with him (in the funhouse) I didn't have anything he liked Super sad about not getting all his hope fragments since according to the wikia he pretty much confesses his love to Hajime or something like that XD

On the twists
I did like the reveal that they were all part of the Ultimate Despair group. It kind of reminded of that arc in Death Note when Light erases his memories and you get a glimpse of what he could've been if he hadn't been led astray. Nagito with Junko's hand was deliciously creepy. And I didn't pick up on it being a game, but when it was revealed it was like huh well that makes sense. The ending/consequences of using the forced shutdown confused me though, so I won't comment on that -_-

Hajime vs Makoto
I didn't really like Hajime much (I really liked Makoto) but when Makoto actually appeared I realised that he's actually a pretty boring character XD I realised that I prefer playing as Makoto because if it were me I would act more like him than Hajime. If Hajime wasn't the player character I think I would've liked him a lot more.

Best Characters (other than Nagito)
I'm pretty surprised to see all the hate for Soda. I thought he seemed pretty normal and fun to hang out with, he's pretty adorable when he's geeking out about machines. Soda and Gundham were the only ones I got all the hope shards for. Ibuki was a lot of fun, but in the end best girl is Sonia for being cute (her obsessions with the occult/j-culture), being pretty useful, making me laugh (her wetsuit/swearing) and her budding relationship with Gundham (SO ADORABLE). I wish I had talked to Fuyuhiko more, his character development was really well done. I had no idea what to give him though, the one time I did talk to him I tried to give him those height-enhancing shoes and he got mad ^.^;;;;

Yeah, the 2 most disturbing moments in the series so far, for me, are Leon's execution and when you first find Nagito's body. I actually had to quit playing after finding Nagito in chapter 5... It seemed like a such a gruesome, horrible way to die. And the look on his face... At that point I assumed it was one of the remaining students and that Nagito was actually Makoto. The idea that the main character from the first game, the Ultimate Hope, had his memories taken and was stuck in another Killing game, went crazy, then was brutally tortured and murdered right at the end was too much for me. I was still waiting for him to be redeemed and save the day. Of course most of that wasn't true, and he did it to himself, so it retroactively went from a really sad death to a pretty badass/crazy one.

His whole plan was a lot of curveballs.

Ok he wants to kill everyone. No wait he actually was never capable of doing that. Okay he was murdered. No wait it was suicide! But wait it WAS actually a murder and it was designed to bring the traitor out! Now wait it was actually to kill everyone but the traitor!

1. Ibuki was one of my saddest deaths (up there w/ Nekomaru and Chiaki). I wanted her to be one of the survivors! Though I suppose if I'm hopeful, she will come back filled with hope! :0

2. I suspected Mikan for a non-trivial amount of time for the first two episodes. I forget why in the second, but the first I got fixated on the photo, where she looked like she was giving a dirty look. :v Of course, the one time I decide that I'm ready to not focus on her, she's actually a murderer AND crazy.

Nagito is someone who values hope to an extreme degree. He's always believed that Despair is merely a stepping stone for Hope; the greater the Despair, the greater the Hope, and Junko is Despair incarnate. He most likely wanted to prove to her that Hope would overcome any Despair. Unfortunately for him, someone like him could never Hope to overcome the Ultimate Despair.

Then should everyone in DR2 also hate everyone who tried to kill the others? Should the DR1 characters hate Hina for what she tried to do? Each one of them were in dire circumstances and were pushed to their psychological limits. I think it's far more realistic for them to look back on what happened after the fact and grieve/forgive the departed instead of keeping some irrational grudge.

It's Makoto. Even if he's wearing a suit now, he'll probably never forget his first love.
