It's like you can protect yourself from DDoS? Just like that Xbox forum which is now down? Wait, you really can't protect from it unless you have loads of server infrastructure like Microsoft has... and even then you can DDoS some of their Xbox servers down.

So, if you can tell Sony how to protect from huge DDoS attacks, you'd get rich. Go ahead.

At least when there was no fee it had a reason. But paying the same thing for what XBL offers? Let alone free MP on PC?

I got 5 years of PS+ left, hopefully they fix it before my sub runs out.

I usually avoid Console War threads since I don't see myself as a fanboy for any particular system. The closest time I've been to being a Console Warrior was against the pre-180 XB1 and that was because I hated the online DRM. As soon as that was changed, I stopped my hatred of the XB1.

oh so a forum is the same thing as actually being able to access your games and play them? Can't play NBA 2k15 because psn is down because it has to be connected to 2k servers(which also suck)

I can't play Destiny with friends because PSN is having issues and the friends list doesn't work.

can't download a game for the first 24 hours everytime something new comes out because "they're updating server infrastructure"

I guess the last console gen wasn't enough practice for Sony.

And yes, that Xbox forum server is just like the PSN servers. You use the same method to bring them down.

You cannot protect from that. Check this attack map: http://map.ipviking.com/ USA has been hammered down for 2 days now. Massive attacks.

People should educate themselves about these things and stop blaming wrong instances. You need to blame the DDoS kiddies, not the companies who get hammered by them. There are no protection apart from having huge server infrastructures around the world.

i guess you don't realize that psn goes down everytime they update anything, and that there's literally a meme called "grace chen time" because ps3 updates sometime tooks weeks. and the joke continues into this gen.

GCT is updating whenever the hell they please. and you seem to conveniently forget all of the downtime, hacks, and issues with psn, that one line wouldn't suffice :)

i sure had a hard time preloading destiny on xbone when they threw it on there.(no issue whatsoever) :lol

definitely the same issues i had when gta v was downloadable on ps3. neither system needed an update.(psn shit the bed and didn't come back online for a day)

I'm not sure which is sadder. That you thought folk were serious about that moving units or that you thought folk were serious about that moving units.

It was a HILARIOUS marketing tactic, but no one had any serious expectations and you know that.

You do know that Microsoft has huge server networks which Sony doesn't have? Microsoft is one of the biggest cloud providers, Sony is not. Do you see where I'm going?

I'll give you a very easy hypothetical example: let's say Sony has 5 server centers in USA and these DDoS kiddies start to hammer them down with 3000Gb/s traffic (like it has been for 2 days now). Still follow? Ok. Now Microsoft has 50 server centers in USA, because they offer cloud services etc. Now these same kiddies start hitting them. Microsoft can easily see where they're being hit so they can forward their own traffic to some of their free servers.

Do you now see where Sony is standing while the kiddies hammer their servers?

Well, do we have anything showing that it made things worse? Or that things wouldn't have been more lopsided without it?

It was obviously not going to be as effective as being able to market the game alongside their console directly.

GCT has to do with when the PSN store updates on any given update day, all that else you're talking is pure ignorance of that fact.

Sony stated PS4 was lead platform for Destiny.
NPD didn't count digital sales or bundle sales which were very popular on PS4.

i'm so lost by your points. you PAY for a service, you can't use the BUTMSHASMORESERVERS argument. customers are actively paying to access your network, buy/rent more servers. this shit has been going on since the ps3 launched in 2006! buy some of these magical "cloud(such a dumb marketing term)" servers that you guys keep bringing up from MS.
