Sony's Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact will be the first smartphones with PS4 Remote Play

Incompatible with Z2. Bummer.

Eagerly awaiting impressions from Z3 owners.

edit: thinking about it, Z2 will need to get the 4.4.4 update first because that brings DS4 compatibility. Hopefully not too far away.

Should be there by the end of this month, got certified on the 7th of October Afaik.

How long til we see some smart Android devs reverse engineer the app and release their own which works on all devices rather than just the Z3? Like they did with 'Limelight' for Nvidia Gamestream.

Remote Play with Xperia Z3 it works great !! will soon upload a video

Please do! Also, a few questions:
1) How does it work on "different" wifi networks? I'm wondering if it does as well as the Vita from across town.
2) Is there anything that is close to a deal breaker (major lag, or major hitching, does the app stink?).
3) Would you consider it a good substitute for a Vita if you don't have one?
4) What's the battery life like on the thing when playing a game?

I haven't tested it myself but I read a impression from someone who tried remote play with both Vita and Z3 and he said Z3 was a lot better experience.

Is it even possible yet?

Still pissed off Sony pulled this crap with making it Z3 exclusive. The Z2 is almost identical in every way.

Hardware is nearly identical, software is different until it gets the 4.4.4 update. If Z2 doesn't get remote play after that then there is a good reason to be pissed off (I will join you).

It's pretty heavily rumoured that it is being backported to the Z2 with the next update.

It's an entirely reasonable supposition that it might not work nicely with older software. For a start, if the video is being streamed over the HLS protocol Google cannot leave that f***ing API alone and keep completely changing the way it works from version to version.

Looking forward to having a play with this tonight though. Probably should go and buy another dualshock 4.

Local wifi only??? Or can you play through the Internet from a wifi connection that's not local to your network (how it works now)?

I think you can play out of your network. I can't get it to work probably because of the firewalls in my office, but it does say that it's searching the internet.

Phew, good to hear. I bet the 4g restriction is because of the crazy amount of data it uses. I've read it's around a gig per hour, so I bet uninformed people would be blowing through their data caps in hours.

I haven't finished the process but it looked like it wanted to sync via bluetooth not usb.

I went into "Xperia Connectivity" and tried syncing a dualshock 3 and it was saying I had to cable it to my phone.

Just confirmed. DS4 you can sync with bluetooth. Damn it! I knew I should have brought that controller to work :p

Had a quick look at the libraries and they've left all the symbols there, I think with some good devs behind it, it shouldn't take long.

Works like crap for me on a Z3 compact, sat 2 feet from my router and another 2 feet from the PS4 half the time I get "Connection is too slow to connect" and the other half I connect for about 30 seconds, see a terrible quality video and it then drops out.

I live in a built up area so I can understand that my Wifi situation isn't perfect but I can stream Sky & Netflix fine through the PS4, there's no excuse for it to be this terrible.

I'll try some other stuff this evening to see if it's something I can resolve through the router but not impressed at all by the lack of support or documentation.

Have you tried it with a Vita? If the connection is as bad as (from my experience) that I'll put all plans of getting a Z3 Tablet on hold indefinitely.

So did I missed something? I just got my Z3 this past weekend. How do I get remote play going? T-mobile USA BTW.

Edit: nvm, I found it!

Haven't got a Vita but I don't see any reason it would be the phones fault, it's probably limited by interference and bandwidth on my network and a lack of compression in remote play to scale properly to what's available.

It works bad for me too within my home network. My Vita works great. Not good news. :(

My experience in few words.

Remote Play using PS Vita and PS4 connected using LAN cable. At home
It takes second to start. The straming is awesome. It is so smooth that you could think you are playing a game on Vita. If you've tried it, you know what I mean. 9 out of 10

Remote Play using PS Vita and PS4 connected using Wifi connection. At home
It takes second to start. The straming is good, but here and there you have lag and noise. 7 out of 10

Remote Play using PS Vita and PS4 connected using LAN cable. Outside
It takes a minute to start. The straming is surprisly good, but here and there you have lag and noise. 7 out of 10

Remote Play using Nexus 5 rooted and PS4 connected using Wifi connection. At home
It takes ages to start. The straming is average, laggy and choppy. Not good enough to justify to play this way imo. For sure it depends on the wifi connection on PS4. 5 out of 10

I cannot make PS4 to recognize my Nexus 5. Dunno why. It could be great but I cannot check it out.
