kind of wish they do an arc that focuses purely on pvp.

They teased it this season... Did asuna even use the OSS at all during the raid?

edit: I guess GGO was pretty much that, but guns are boring, if they writer doesn't seem interested in mechanics instead of just bullshit kirito 'I can sense killing intent in a video game'.

asuna doesnt have the OSS, Yuuki does.

Wasn't the whole point of the pvp stuff ' winner gets my OSS?'

I feel like that was the premise.

the whole premise of the dueling was to find someone suitable to fill the last party spot in the Sleeping Knights raid group.

they used the 11 hit OSS to get people to show up for the duels, knowing that no one could beat Yuuki.

All the questions you all are asking will get answered eventually. What Mother's Rosario is, Yukki's OSS, etc.
Also, I've been meaning to detail the "killing intent" thing for a while though never got around to it, but the author acknowledges that its weird and Kirito wasn't the only one that could do it. Just read what it says in the novel:

And amongst these skills that weren’t listed in the ability column, the hardest skill to get, and even treated as a supernatural one was the «presence sense»—also called «Hypersense». That is to feel the presence of an enemy before seeing and hearing them first. It’s also a skill to «sense killing intent».

There’s one group who denied the existence of this skill since logically, it’s impossible to detect this so-called killing intent in the virtual world. Humans who were dived could only use the digital data Nerve Gear sent over to identify and understand the world, so all the information in this game had to be in the form of a process. Of course, that would mean that there couldn’t possibly be vague things like killing intent or sixth sense. Their reasoning was actually logical. Even I wouldn’t really agree that the «Hypersense» skill exists.

However, during the two years I fought in Aincrad, I did experience what could be said as «a sense of killing intent» a few times. I didn’t see or hear anything, but I just had the feeling that someone was watching me and didn’t move further into the dungeon. In the end, I did manage to save my own life a few times.

Earlier this year, I mentioned this once to my «daughter» Yui. Yui was once the affiliated AI to the «Cardinal System» that operated SAO, and she definitely indicated that in SAO and «The Seed» program that was derived from it, there weren’t any other methods of knowing the existences of monsters other than the five senses.
—Thus, I shouldn’t be able to notice the enemy if they hid silently in a place I couldn’t see.

So, I explained the thoughts I had been having for a long time to Yui. Players who dived into VRMMO would use the game server signal that’s constantly far away from them, to check «their» own status. When moving alone in a wilderness or dungeon, they would only access their own data. However, if someone tried to ambush the player, the number of status signals to process would become twice or more. At this moment, the system process would become slower, and finally cause a slight delay in transmission, and this could possibly be the «killing intent» felt.

After hearing my guess, Yui showed a doubtful look and then said that if a server became slower due to this level of processing, it would be eliminated. However, she later added that to put it bluntly, she couldn’t deny this possibility completely. In the end, maybe it’s more convincing to say that it was some supernatural power.

Calibur and to a lesser extent Mothers Rosario are the best SAO has ever been which isn't saying much
I'd disagree there.
Aincrad arc had actual human-like characterizations as opposed to being entirely composed of TV/anime-trope archetypes. Rosario would be the only other one that does that (assuming it stays true to source material), but it's thematically weaker IMO.
I'd probably agree Aincrad novel-source was the weaker of the two (though compared to what comes later, they are all rather nice...)

Probably because those arcs have the least amount of bullshit and focus on the arction for the most part.

I think Mother's Rosario is the best arc. One of the main reasons being that it's the one with the least amount of Kirito inside it. i can't stand that poser anymore.

Man, the feels :( I was kind of expecting it but it still got to me. Totally changes the OP and ED.

This writer just enjoys giving shitty lives to his characters doesnt he? Now I know why they're called "Sleeping Knights"

I've really enjoyed this arc so far. Lots of action, very little Kirito.

As soon as it became clear that they were exercising the old "I don't want to hurt you so I won't say goodbye" trope, I put the name of the guild and Kirito's comment together well before this episode aired. As soon as he said Yuuki suffered from a disease
I immediately guessed AIDS just based on the kinds of disease a child might get
. All of this stuff was pretty obvious if you put it together in advance, but still got lots of feels to be sure. I was hoping they would
rip Yuuki out of the fucking machine and take her on a trip or something
but as soon as Asuna said YOU CAN GO TO SCHOOL, I immediately knew what she meant.

SAO is so annoying in that way, the show is so see through and predictable, yet still so enjoyable to watch. I guess this is why people like Twilight...

When I and others said this arc was the best we really weren't kidding.

Spoilers for the current episode...

When I first read the book and got to where we are now I was baffled, obviously SOMETHING was going on but I really didn't try to read into it as much as some people who are watching this for the first time are but then again I had the whole book in front on me to read, I didn't have to wait a week to see how things were progressing every time. The arc is not over and I'll refrain from spoiling anything about what happens now but I think many of you are starting to see why some of us favor this arc so much.

What this arc does better then any other part of SAO or hell any other book or show that features the same kind of set up (Virtual MMO/trapped in a game/ect) is that it builds the world itself after the 'death game' has ended. The idea that a device like this that trapped 10000 people in a virtual world for 2 years could be used for something like this? Something that allows those who are in constant pain and suffering to not only live without that pain but give them a chance to actually have fun, meet people, and just LIVE is one of the most unique and enriching things I've ever had the pleasure of reading. I've often thought that VR games could be absolutely amazing, I have never thought what ELSE they could become and what they could do. If VR is ever a possibility to the level SAO presents I truly hope that someone can do something similar that is shown in this episode and maybe more. This may just be a story but it presents an idea of what gaming can do outside of pure entertainment and I wish more people thought like that.

I don't expect everyone to agree but just remember, its not over yet.

That was the first decent heartfelt moment this show had. I almost expect them to ruin this somehow by having Kirito
magically find the cure for AIDS
or some stupid shit like that.

I had kinda guessed the twist the episode Kirito said Yuuki was a "product of the full dive system [or something along those lines, can't remember exactly the quote]" but I still think it was pretty well done. Now hopefully the quality stays up for the rest of the series.

You already can tell how based Kirito saved the day with that ending scene.

For better or worse, I do like that the author doesn't seem to give a crap about tone consistency or anything. He just writes what he pleases.

Weird timing that I just played To the Moon the other day which hit similar concepts.

Caught up on the last three episodes. :/

So how much material is left after this arc? Is SAO still ongoing or has it already ended?

This is a spoiler that requires tagging, as this isn't answered until later on. That guess that Kirito used, wouldn't make too much sense still, as there was still 2 people not too distant away from him in that case (Sinon and Death Gun). The fact of the matter is he dodged a first shot from a sniper rifle, which has no warning. Even if one was able to tell that there are more signals coming to and from their gear, they would have no way of dodging that bullet in time as if they knew where the attack was coming from.

Basically, that explanation makes no sense, only the person that made it would believe that to be logical.

EDIT: Mother's Rosario and GGO are the best arcs so far imo. Aincrad had so much potential, but it was screwed up by time skips, bad character development, and making Kirito be so great without showing how he became so great. There were plenty other beta testers and still plenty solo players. How is it that only Heathcliff (with hax and insider knowledge of the game) is able to take on Kirito in a straight up duel. I feel there should of been more challenges.

Not to mention him allowing the first party he joined to die, simply because he didn't want to tell them his true level. I am pretty sure they would of listened to his warnings, if he had; It was unnecessarily forced tragedy.

they still haven't used the title of the arc anywhere yet.

dont' tell me kirito names his dumb webcam project mother rosario or something >.>"

I just love how no matter what, everything has to come around to kirito saving the day :D

GGO was straight garbage. Shit was just boring. They spend almost 3 episodes sitting in a cave. It's good if you like Sinon's ass crack I guess.

GGO, code geass, cross enge.

In order to tell war stories, you need ass cracks.

It's the first thing you learn in animation school.

To be fair, I'd say there's absolutely nothing wrong with that and fanservice in general...as long as you've got something else to care about. Another such example would be Major Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Alone Complex. Or Gunbuster, for that matter.

I guess. GGO did have a bad habit of camera going gravure camera mode during important drama talks though, which really does kill my focus.

It's going on - but I'd not advise it unless you're a massive fan of Kirito (and even that comes with caveats). I've only been going through it for morbid curiosity lately (as in seeing just how bad it can get, and I keep getting surprised there).

I hope SAO never ends. I love it.

Eh. If you've stuck with it this far, you might as well stick with it to the end. Its not that bad if you look at it independently from the rest of the series. Though there are some parts that are... bad...
It's going to be a major pain in the ass for A-1 pictures.
