But they don't lead in US or UK.
Xbone does not lead anywhere, except in markets where PS4 did not launch yet [China].
But they don't lead in US or UK.
But they don't lead in US or UK.
Microsoft are very aggressive in their pricing. I expect MS to take the lead in the US and UK if Sony stays the same. The price cuts and bundles are working for them.
And remember, US and UK are the most important markets and if those are won, we're pretty much at the same level as last gen, which is not that good news for Sony.
Germany, Spain, France and even Japan are more like "filler" markets, they're not that important for 3rd parties. US and UK is where it's at.
Didn't MS want 60% marketshare in europe or germany ?
Also Germany is Sonys 2nd biggest European market. How is that "Filler" ?

Btw how big is the UK in the grand scheme of Euroland sales?
5%?
10%?
Anyone got even a rough idea?
Because if MS is strong in US, they are doing a decent job and it's a large part console market.
But being strong in UK sounds to me like being strong in a state or few states in US, nice thing to have but what about the other states? Having ~1:1 in UK isn't that "important" thing anymore if rest of the EU market (90%? 80%? 70%?) is similiar to Germany, even 2:1 (Sony:MS) ratio would be bad news.
TLR
Just "ranting" a bit about the importance of UK sales when compared to the whole EU.
Playstation: 4
Xbox: 1
Brazil would have been jealous of Xbox's performance.
Dat 40% market share.

WTF is this?
Yes it's WiiU 350k vs. Xbone 270k (WiiU numbers are from august). Also yes, the WiiU had one year more time ;P

Well :
Where, Aaron?

Latest German stats(2013) show 2.66b According to a report I found, back in 2011, here was the split (console/ handheld games revenue) between the "Big 5" of Western EU:
Latest German stats(2013) show 2.66b €
Is there any indication of what Wii U is at now? The 350k number is dated to the end of June when Xbox was 170k.
2013 (in billion euros)
UK 4.1
FR 2.7
GER 2.7
SPA 0.7
I think Italy is roughly equivalent to Spain.
Console + Handheld totals 1480m Euros, which is equivalent to (roughly) $1.825b for 2013.
I guess the numbers aren't totally made up in the report I found, just 3+ years old
He said "right now". If he means the monthly results for november he is telling something like the truth.
About 23m consoles last gen, probably around 25% for home console hardware, but we don't really get numbers for the whole of EU to give an exact %.
There was a post by Parmenides, which stated the PS3's six years of sales like this:
32 million in continental Europe
5 million in UK
21.8 million in US
32 million worth of filler countries.
Sony recently anounced that they sold 1 million PS4s in germany on 21.10.
200k more in such a short time is huge. Wii sold 339k "around" christmas - where it is not clear if it includes october.
I made a chart back in the days which I updated now.
Disclaimer: This is not accurate as there is not much sales data for germany, it is month based, so weeks get cut off and a lot of press releases were not clear about the "when". In some cases I couldn't even figure out if it means the month before. So in worst cases it might be 2 month off. I also had to guess wii launch sales (I used 100k), as the only official number was 675k in 2007.
NDS sold 1,8 mio in 2007. NDS beat the PS2 by far here. PS4 should be the fastest selling homeconsole of all time in germany.
But it paints an overall picture:

No. In any whatsoever business, you never ever equate your market position based on daily, weekly, or monthly sales. You never claim to be #1 in the market if you are not actually #1 in the market. In fact, in some businesses, you can get in very big trouble for claiming you're the market leader because your shareholders can be misled by such claims. Sales are measured from product introduction to product discontinuation, so common sense should tell you that market share calculations must be based on cumulative/yearly sales.
I have no idea what market(s) Greenberg is referring to, so I'd love to know which territories the Xbox One is actually #1. Notice how he doesn't specify what #1 means; he could mean #1 in market share, #1 in accessory sales, #1 in amount of zombies killed on next-gen consoles etc. He could mean #1 in anything, and his lack of specificity is what ensures he never enters into legal hot waters with investors.
Greenberg's tweet brings up one of the big elephants in the room. Microsoft has a well documented history of being deliberately mendacious when they report Xbox sales performance, e.g. Xbox is the fastest selling console, Xbox*, US+UK= Market Leader, etc. Part of the reason why there's a general dislike of Microsoft 'personalities' is because they are almost never straight-forward when it comes to facts; there's always a twist and a turn and an asterisk involved. I can't remember which gaming host said it - it might have been on a podcast or a video - but when Microsoft were claiming they finally unraveled the mystery of the E.T. dump site, the person said something along the lines of "And this is why nobody likes you". They are habitual liars, and frankly, their inability to connect with core audiences is very much a result of them being dishonest in their business.
It's no surprise that the PS4 is #1 in Germany. The Xbox One sounded like an EU lawmaker's wet dream prior to the policy reversals. It was never going to do well with the data-mining camera and attendance check-ins, so even though the console has changed* in vision, the folks in Europe aren't interested in supporting the platform.
*= For now.

I think it's amazing how BIG the console market has become in germany.
PS4 LTD in germany right now: 1.2 million
PS4 LTD in the UK right now: ??? - What could it be? It passed the 1 million mark in September. So.... 1.4 million? 1.5 million?
Will be interesting to see if the german console market can overtake the UK market.
I mean, population-wise.... Germany >>>>> UK
Would be cool!
That's not happening, PS4 in Germany is about the same as XB1 in UK. XB1 in Germany is insignificant compared to PS4 in UK. WiiU is insignificant in both countries.
Man that's crazy when you put it like that. That's not happening, PS4 in Germany is about the same as XB1 in UK. XB1 in Germany is insignificant compared to PS4 in UK. WiiU is insignificant in both countries.
In essence, this is what a half-arsed effort leads to.
Not only Microsoft invests (and by investing I mean catering to each country as its own small market) nowhere nearly enough in marketing in Europe (they did a better effort with the original Xbox if you ask me) but unlike Sony they make no effort for localized content.
People thinking "sonyland" is some sort of fatality are forgetting that most of Europe was SEGA land before the 32bit generation, and we all know what happened.
Well :
Where, Aaron?
if only Japan was (don't care if U.S is split) then we would get Dragon Quest and Level 5 RPG's back on the big screen....Europe will be pretty much like PS2 gen in terms of market share this time.
Well I have to say that, in December all my friends got at least one xbone. With all those crazy deals around here in Germany for example for 300 you could buy one with Kinect + 3 games, or xbox one assassin's creed bundle (or sunset overdrive bundle)+ 4 games and one extra controller for 350 . I actually bought a second one for me( the sunset overdrive bundle) and I'll give my first one to my nepnephew as a Christmas gift.
Maybe he uses the same "EU is one country" logic as his companion Penello
Yeah... No. The PS4 is not ever going to get obliterated by the Xbone like how the PS3 was by the 360. That's the difference between last gen and this one.
The PS3 wasn't obliterated by the 360, they sold almost exactly the same amount of units world wide.
The difference between this gen and last gen is that one of the consoles is being obliterated.
