This is literally like Quantum Redshift the thread.
The boxart was so bad the developers indicated that it negatively impacted their sales so profoundly they failed to reach a deal with Microsoft to get the go-ahead for Quantum Redshift 2. Apparently the boxart was outsourced to some internal team at Microsoft or something who fucked it up. It's a shame because the game was beyond incredible for the time. Quantum Redshift 2 was initially green-lit but subsequently canceled by Microsoft due to the original's poor commercial performance. The developers shut down shortly after that.
Best futuristic racer on the original Xbox and one of the best futuristic racers ever. The designer of fucking Wipeout worked on it. But dat boxart.

Honestly, Prime 1's box art isn't much better. They took a fairly nice shot of Samus and shopped her into an out of focus industrial corridor because spaceships:

Both US covers of the No More Heroes games look really bland

There was an interesting article on Eurogamer a while back, and a lot of time was spent damning the awful box art. It's a fascinating story that anyone found it acceptable.

Actually that's a corridor inside the 1rst area of Metroid Prime.
I'm not saying it's not good or anything but it's really just Samus standing in a random corridor of the 1rst area.
This is one of the most memorable boxarts ever for me. I never even played the game myself but this image is burned into my memory. Perhaps it's because it represents a game that I was far too scared to try as a kid and brings back memories of sitting in between my brother's legs, attempting to watch him play it for more than 5 minutes before crying.
I agree with the Binary Domain post as well, came to post that.

Guys you're not going to find a whole lot of covers that are head turningly bad, or are cringeworthy. I think these are bad because they're either generic and seem awkward when you look at them closely.
Most of the truly egregious covers are reserved for novels, or are much older games.
