You go from two neat water dragon looking things to an orange barney looking dude. And two very organic flowey air turtle water turtle type pokemon to a very inorganic mechanical looking turtle with giant cannons. I never liked that.

I don't know much about journalism, but I do know one rule that gets thrown around "if the story becomes about you, then you have failed". A lot of gaming journalist fails on that.

Whats Molyneux biggest sin? Promising the moon and delivering a mediocre game? Folks act like he sold baby food with lead in it or defective brakes. People take games too personal. Devs and Pubs are not your friend

Perfect summary right there. The guy might be a charlatan in the eyes of gaming consumers but that doesn't mean he deserves harassment, threats, and outright hostility. Whoever conducted that interview with RPS went guns blazing from jump. Gaming press reducing itself to the shock value and mob mentality promoted by many of its readers is extremely disappointing.

But I'm not surprised. This is just another reason why the game industry continues to rot in its own immaturity by a refusal to evolve discourse and be respectful.

This discussion has described my life over the past seven years.



As a 2008 journalism graduate I can attest. I got a few freelance things here and there and I'm trying to pitch stories now, but I've never had anything full-time. Ever.

And I'm still trying to march down that path because to be honest, I have shit else to put on my resume. I'm getting edged out in experience on applications to retail jobs.

Yea, I graduated and watched as former classmates and professors badmouthed me to anyone who would listen. After that I decided three degrees wasn't enough so I aimed for Masters degrees. The journalism struggle is a never-ending grind. Knew one person that quit out of frustration due to lack of money in the field. They work in insurance now and have a great husband, child, house, and dog.
