Kojima was 'fired' by Konami, says Metal Gear Solid voice actress

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Welcome to a couple of weeks ago.

A couple of weeks ago wasn't explicitly fired, just hinted at. The dirty dealings made it go that direction, sure. But for all we knew (at the time) he could've "retired" and stipulated his name being taken off all the stuff.

Making large AAA budget games is definitely his thing (and very much what he is known for), I can't see him making a small indie title at all.

and you know this how? it's not like we've seen him create anything other than MG for the past 15 years, which seemed like and obligation.

I love Hideo Kojima and his work but at the same time there are two sides to every story. I don't want to believe he's done something so bad it has led to this. However unless Konami have truly lost the plot, I can't understand why they'd screw up the lead up to what will most likely be their biggest release for the "current/next generation" of consoles. If they wanted to let him go why announce it so early on and not after release? The secrecy from Konami and the fact Kojima has been so silent makes it all the more suspicious.

Hahah, it's almost as if the person who sings the theme song isn't high up on the totem pole at Konami. Weird!

they have been trying to avoid bad press since the start of this debacle. It's obvious something went wrong and Konami is trying to hide it.

At least you can talk. Who are you?
Looks like money was the problem.

So it was Sutherland that set us down this path?

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
I'm sure Konami can continue to cover this up for half a year in the age of social media. Such a good job they already did of it by wiping all the credit stuff which sparked the "ooh whats going on here then". Moronic dinosaurs in charge as usual.

Going to be interesting if it comes out, and Kojima is at fault.

Guess we will have to live through the "Konami is doomed" (They are not) "Konami are Bastards" (probably) posts till the facts come out.

This is a voice actress she is about 1 step ahead of us in Hearsay....meaning most likely in the dark with us

Kinda sad to hear, but it can turn out well. A new franchise from Kojima sounds really good to me.

Metal Gear was legendary but it's time to give the franchise a rest. Though Konami will probably still try to milk it after Kojima is gone.

Firing geniuses and your top talent when your a software publisher is.....well let's just say that never works out well for the publisher.

Konami has a rather extensive casino business. Well a considerable amount of Slot machines I see at Parx (A Casino in Philadelphia), are made by Konami. In fact there is a giant machine near the entrance called the Titan 360 with huge Pinball like metallic balls that go into these Skeeball like holes which has always has a large crowd surrounding it. Yes, it's a Konami machine too.

Considering their gambling side of the company, even if Kojima leaves, Konami isn't going anywhere in the immediate future.

There still is Silent Hills up in the air too, and also consider Igarashi's departure a few months ago. If Kojima is indeed fired, that means no solid lead for either the Castlevania or Metal Gear franchises.

What remains? PES Soccer? the few DDR Arcade Machines, beyond Konami's extensive gambling business.

I REALLY, REALLY HATE TO SAY THIS, but Konami could close it's console gaming division entirely and STILL survive based on the revenue it's gambling side pulls in.

I don't want Konami to fail out of the console gaming. I love Castlevania, Suikoden, and Metal Gear.

It would be terrible to not ever again play another installment of these franchises, but at the rate things are going it could very well be a possibility in the next 5 to 6 years if things continue as is.

Maybe not even that, I expect Naoki Maeda's departure a couple of years ago might have put a damper on things?

It was pretty clear that Kojima was not a normal Konami employee anymore. They said he was still working on the game as a contractor untill december.

UPDATE: Konami says Burke's claims are "categorically incorrect".

http://www.videogamer.com/ps4/metal...nami_says_metal_gear_solid_voice_actress.html

Konami's PR will say whatever necessary to do damage control and make it so the company itself is not seen in a negative light. This is typical of all Public Relations. It is their job to shift blame and deflect anything that could potentially damage the reputation of company they represent.

At best, expect half-truths. Treat it as a person talking out of two sides of their mouth. It's like politics if you think about it.

Kojima should buy the Principality of Sealand, make it his motherbase, and continue to produce Konami owned properties without their consent. At least until Konami blows it up.

If Kojima was at fault, Konami wouldnt be hesitating to throw him under the bus and point to the reason why. Putting studio wide gagging order out though, thats only ever gonna be because the pub fucked up. This isn't just Kojima leaving either remember, its all his top captains too coming with him.

Pretty much. I'd rather get the full story before taking a side.It makes no sense for them to do this out of spite.

It's obvious from places that reported on this whole thing (Gamespot, etc) that he'd depart on bad terms. I was under the impression we all pretty much agreed he was let go...?

So Konami is saying that her claims are "categorically incorrect" but Kojima's name is removed from the credits anyway?

It's not like Kojima would quit and ask to get his name removed from HIS games.

Sadly, that seems to be a common theme with most Japanese former greats of the video game industry. Konami, Capcom, Square-Enix, Sega, etc.

All these companies fell from grace by giving too much power to the US departments and/or trying to please western audiences.

Sn4ke_911

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
So why are people so quick to rush to Kojima's defense knowing nothing about all this?

Because no matter what you don't fire a man AND his team who worked so hard for you and gave you so much over 27+ years.

Kojima and co. are still a contracted employee. That could be very well why the are mum... you know business ethics, employee rights, and all that.

Watch this all be some convoluted marketing scheme to drum up interest in MGS5. It has all of Kojima's favorite things, unexplained conspiracies, revisionist history, and more than likely nanobots.

New Metal Gear without Kojima? no thank you, this will be my last MG and probably my last Konami game, it's not like they are publishing a lot of games anyway...

Well either she is horribly mistaken or she's just confirming what a lot of us already suspected.

Either way, I'm still buying mgs5. It's literally Kojimas final mgs game and all signs point to it being great. I never thought I'd see the day but here we are. I'm going to really cherish MGS5.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the MGS movie, they recently announced a director/writer, knowing Kojima as the film buff he is, is it possible he was unhappy with where it was heading and maybe he tried to exert as much creative control as he could as creator and perhaps Konami booted him for meddling with the plans?

Hell if I know but i think the film news releasing this past week is highly coincidental.
