Kojima was 'fired' by Konami, says Metal Gear Solid voice actress

Kojima just retweeted stuff from Guillermo del Toro.

https://twitter.com/Kojima_Hideo

Well, he links to a news story about del Toro remaking the Disney movie Haunted House with Ryan Gosling as the main star. But I think he makes a joke about del Toro and Gosling doing a Drive sequel collaboration together (at least I think this is what I got out of it).

It makes me wonder if there is some hidden context in the "collaboration" comment, or if he is drawing a parallel to Silent Hills?

I am very apprehensive about purchasing MGSV. They really lost me when they charged for the demo as they have. Whether Kojima is with Konami or not doesn't influence a purchase if I think it's a good one.

Having said that, I don't blame people who want to cancel their preorder or just not buy it at all in light of Kojima being fired. I for one am happy that he is no longer with them, maybe now he can be free to do other games that will be just as good. I mean, ZOE was only a small side thing for him and I'm a huge fan of it (hence my username! Jehuty was taken tho).

Also, this whole thing has led me to discovering Donna Burke. I never connected the dots with the works she's been in -- Glass Sky from Tokyo Ghoul, "Wondering" from Haibane Renmei -- among others. I didn't know she was even in Bloody Roar. She seems to be in a lot of anime/ games that I've really, truly enjoyed. Now that she's in my radar, I look forward to seeing what else she comes up with. What a fantastic singer.

I don't understand these people saying Kojima with Sony is bad. For a long time MGS was synonymous with the Playstation platforms. Although I highly doubt Sony will court Kojima and make a studio just for him. Best case scenario is with Kojima founding his independent studio much like Sakaguchi.

Edit: Next Metal Gear story will be as deep as CoD's story telling. ;)

It's not. But even if it was it's caused enough damage that it wouldn't matter.

I feel like Kojima should go work for Take-Two, get that same setup deal that those Rockstar guys get. Of course, if he doesn't deliver then he'll get the Ken Levine treatment. But, I think Take-Two would be willing to risk a substantial investment in Kojima.

A new Bioshock made by Kojima? It would be very weird.

The existence of FOX engine makes this entire situation so difficult, even though his team authored it I imagine he will not be able to take that with him.

Such a shame. The engine had so much potential and years of work must have gone in it..

I don't think she's in the loop.

She probably reached that conclusion the same way we did. I don't imagine she has Kojima's personal phone number.
It sounds like any other generalized speculation we've been reading about for tha past couple weeks. Once contracts are up in December we'll most likely hear about what happened from Kojima-san himself.

Do we have a clear understanding of what exactly happened to Sakaguchi or Itagaki or Inafune? I don't think we're ever going to get the real story.

This is donna burke..

She has songs in tons of konami games, including DDR, beatmania, winning eleven (PES), metal gear.. contra, the list goes on!

Regarding the removal of Kojima's name from the art and such, has anyone looked into the possibility that Kojima's contract prohibits Konami from using his name to advertise the games like that if he's no longer under contract to them? If I were him I certainly would have considered putting something like that in my contract, so they couldn't keep calling everything "Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear" or whatever after I was gone.

This actually makes a lot of sense to me. But who knows.

I second this notion that it WOULD make sense, but I feel Kojima would've spoken up about it already to put the flames down with everything going on. He hasn't done that...so it probably is Konami stripping it instead of their own accord.

Konami has handled this situation terribly. What a clusterfuck PR wise -- but what can you expect from such a dysfunctional company. Embarrassing.

As for Kojima, I hope that he continues on making great games in the future; if he wants to that is, as I don't think he'll have any problems finding a new home.

this defies the logic of konami removing his name though. he's still working on mgsv, and he worked on all those past games from which they are removing the name.

Define clear...

  1. Sakaguchi stepped down
  • Itagaki resigned from Tecmo, and sued them for not getting paid.
  • Infaune said he was starting his life over
I don't think we're ever going to get the real story
Airing their most intimate thoughts/motivation/reasons behind leaving their former companies like a Jerry Springer episode? I'd have to agree with you there.

I simply meant that after Kojima's obligations with Konami are over in December - that would be the most likely time to hear non-speculation.

Has Kojima not commented yet or did I miss that?

He can't.

A fallout between Kojima Productions and its publisher, Konami, has led to senior staff at the studio given restricted access to corporate internet, emails, and phone calls, GameSpot understands.

Come on, not this again, GZ is a stand alone game that is worth paying for, a demo is a piece of a game, GZ isn't a part of TPP, it's its own thing.
It might be short, but it's a stand alone game, with a beginning and an end, that sets up the events in TPP.
It's a small prequel if you will.
Is it worth what they were asking for initially? That's debatable.
Is it just a demo that should've been given away? Absolutely not.

I highly doubt that was Konami. She doesn't work for Konami, so I doubt they have any power over her. She was contracted at a moment in time for music and it's long done.

lol

Or you know, she just wanted to clarify what she previous said since it gave the wrong impression.

There is a reason why Kojima and his team can't talk freely about this whole situation, don't you think?

"Clarified", days after someone explicitly asked her if her use of the word was spilling the beans on what actually happened, and she nonchalantly answered in the affirmative.

Clown shoes PR.

lol

I know you're one for the conspiracy nonsense, so I'll stay off that train ride. ;)

If she worked at Konami, then I would believe she was forced to write that (SPOILER ALERT:
She doesn't work there
), but for the sake of keeping her reputation in this matter, she had to fix her mess up and there is nothing else to this. I understand you want Chico to be Quiet and Hayter to secretly be Snake and Gray Fox to be a ham sandwich, but at some point, you should probably stop and think.

Besides, what is Konami going to do to her? Bitch about her to death?

Because she's a contractual worker she has to be even more careful... her future jobs are essentially based on past work experiences and word of mouth from previous clients. But by all means, continue to belittle and demean someone else.

Sue her for libel?

These grand conspiracies just drive me nuts. I understand Konami screwed Kojima-san over, but to think every post from everyone involved is controlled by a shadow government within Konami is getting obsessive.

Why would she go out of her way to confirm rumors if she didn't know anything, in spite of personally knowing those involved? Why is she specifically mentioning Konami in the Facebook post?

To save her reputation for incorrectly posting about Kojima-san being fired? She caused a shitstorm and probably wanted to calm people down before it got out of hand. Being fired and having your contract changed are two different scenarios in my book.

This isn't a grand conspiracy... This is simply PR. Konami contacted her, she makes that point VERY CLEAR in the exact post in question.

(edit) Or her agent. Either way, someone was contacted and she was told to make a statement.

Exactly. There is nothing more to it. She made a fuck-up in claiming he was fired and she had to fix it. End of story.

Ignoring the question. She didn't cause a shitstorm either. The major gaming sites took care of that, she just added what she personally knew.

The whole situation is so absurd.

Yeah there is nothing more to it.

I'm sure Kojima and his team are not allowed to talk about this freely is just because nothing bad happened at all, everything is sunshine and rainbows over there.
