Why would you be concerned for the IP?!?!? They have made it very clear that Metroid is gonna be very much a thing in both 2D and 3D/first person. Any and all concern is entirely unwarranted.

Sure. but this is one of the big 3 franchies for NIntendo in my eyes. Mario, Zelda and Metroid. Its been 4 years since Other M? About to be 5 soon.

Maybe I'm impatient, I would just like Metroid games a little faster than we are getting them.

Everyone agrees with that, I bet. And yea, Other M was August 2010 so might as well say 5 years. But we know they have a future for Metroid in mind so no reason at all to worry.

Dunno if anyone's done this yet..

Yes, the article went up early. They even took it down again until after the Digital Event. It wasn't intentional.

You sure about that? They didn't exactly give Star Fox any time during the DE, except for that last Miyamoto bit with the unrecognizable footage that sort of seemed to hinge upon the article linking him to a new Star Fox game. Oh well. Maybe I'm overestimating Nintendo.

I want these to happen:

  • Animal Crossing U
  • 3D Mario platformer for 3DS
  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess 3D for 3DS...
  • ...or Mario Sunshine / Mario Galaxy 3D for 3DS
  • F-Zero for Wii U

Anyone who knew what Star Fox is knew that it was a Star Fox game on that blurry screen. The article went up early. There was no point in "intentionally" making it go up before the DE. All the info from the article was covered again during Treehouse Live, too. Since there was nothing to actually show, they didn't show it during the DE but gave select access to Miyamoto and SF beforehand. The DE only had stuff they could show off properly.

Animal Crossing U: Very possible. One of the probable early(?) 2016 games for Wii U. I think we'll get a trailer for that.
Amiibos: They'll appear in some capacity. Maybe not even in the digital event. More smash waves will get announced, more new series, new games that will support them... Oh and there will be an apology for the mess they are.
Devil's Third: Is this game still alive? If it is, then it probably get a trailer. Nothing more, nothing less. I guess it's coming this year, if it's still alive of course.... Seriously, this got announced weirdly and we hardly heard anything for it since last E3.
Donkey Kong U: Too soon, not happening.
F-Zero U: Not happening.
GameCube VC: Eventually this will happen, but i doubt it will be on E3. Maybe just an announcement for the future. I mean, they announced Wii, DS and N64 but still there are only a few of them on their shop. Also, I'm not sure what would they release there right now. Wind Waker had the HD remake recently and the Prime games got Trilogy. The other really big games I can think are Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion but I doubt they would be enough. Stuff like Melee or Mario Kart wouldn't work greatly. It still could get released though, with the 2 Mario games I mentioned and maybe more coming later.
Illusory Revelations #FE: Trailer, new info, maybe a more specific release window. Hyped about the game. :D
Kirby U: Too soon I think.
Mario U: I think this was rumored or was confirmed to exist. I think it was stated to be a 3D Mario, so I really hope it's a Super Mario Galaxy 3 or something similar. Considering that Mario Maker is on the way too, another 2D Mario won't happen for some time. I think an announcement during the World Tournament would be really neat but I'm probably just optimistic.
Mario Sports Something: This will happen probably... At least I hope it's something good like Strikers.
Metroid U: My dream game for E3 and I think that it's not really far-fetched. The series isn't dead, just dormant and an announcement would make sense to happen in E3, not just on a regular Direct. My only fear is what exactly it will be. A Prime like game? A Metroid Other M-like game? Maybe a 2D one?(hopefully not) If it's happening, it won't come this year, sadly.
New IP: I have no idea what this could be. Last year we got Splatoon, I didn't see that coming. I'm sure that they're release something new but maybe it's not something big. Maybe even smaller like Splatoon. Either way, we'll see.
Paper Mario U: Rumored too. Quite possible too, with a 2015 release date. Hopefully more like the first two games, rather than the Wii or the 3DS one.
Pokken: I don't really believe that this will be announced for Wii U so soon. I think it's expected to come but not now. A 2016 or even a 2017 release, and it'll probably be confirmed for Wii U sometime after its arcade launch.
Remake: I believe(and maybe I'm a minority), that their releases for late 2015 are somewhat scarce now. So what's better than an easy to make, remake? If they announce the NGC support for VC, this may not happen though. A good candidate would be Twilight Princess.
StarFox U: Probably one of their big games. This will be demoed, have a big trailer, many interviews with Miyamoto and other developers later... Generally it will be their flagship game this E3. Guard and Big Robot will be part of it. Even though I don't really like the series, I'm kinda hyped for what this will turn out.
Smash DLC: Optimistic about it. They'll probably announce a new character around the middle of the Event. Maybe even a second, returning one but we already have Ness.
Splatoon DLC: Considering that the game will be out for quite a few days before E3, if they plan to release DLC for this, this would be a nice time to announce it. Maybe they're even release some free update around E3. Generally, I'm certain they'll mention the game in their Digital Event.
Surprise Announcement: Either the new IP or a surprise collaboration for exclusive third party game.
Xenoblade X: I guess this will appear too, but not much to see as it's already out in Japan. A (cinematic?) trailer and it will get announced for late Summer/early Fall.
Yarn Yoshi: I guess this is bound to appear too, despite coming really soon. A launch trailer and maybe some kind of announcement for DLC, but I doubt that.
Zelda U: I doubt we'll learn nothing new about this. I get it, no trailer, no playable demo but I believe we'll get new info on some capacity. Probably Aonuma confirming things or maybe another sneak peek.

My thoughts about Wii U... We'll probably get some 3rd party announcements too, like maybe Black Ops 3, but not much. Oh and an indie sizzle reel. Hmm, most of them are pretty realistic I think but perhaps not all of them will happen. I hope there will be something that I don't expect on their event...

Edit: The post is kinda big, sorry about the bold too...

Could you elaborate?

Otherwise I would direct you at the Nintendo dev status rundown I posted on the last page or so.

I mean anything big to look forward to. Seems like the discussion focuses a lot on wii u this year.

I checked your post now, a new M&L would be sweet but I feel it's too early to hope for one yet...

I can think of Yokai Watch, Fire Emblem and Project X Zone 2, at least for outside of Japan. The 3DS feels a bit light right now in terms of future releases.

Yo-kai Watch is coming? Nice. It's slated for 2016 tho..

I think this could be very feasible for their big holiday release. They've already got the NFC cards hitting in the fall.

Well, that's what we're waiting on E3 for. They need to tell us what's next.

a possible 3DS Metroid, lots of localizations (Rhythm Heaven Plus, Final Fantasy Explorers, Yo-Kai Watch, Bravely Second), Project X Zone 2, Fire Emblem If, a possible new Golden Sun/any RPG from Camelot, Advance Wars, more Wii-ports for N3DS, general N3DS exclusives, surprise games, unexpected sequels to big-name franchises maybe. Anything is possible right now.

I think this could be very feasible for their big holiday release. They've already got the NFC cards hitting in the fall.

Only for Japan, though. Since the localization effort is too big considering the things they already got on their plate right now.

I'm not getting my hopes up for an Animal Crossing on Wii U. We were all so sure it would have been announced at last years E3 and instead we got the Home Design game.

Hopefully it'll turn out real this time.

Happy Home Designer was announced 6 weeks ago, not last E3.

Do you guys think we're probably get that third Style Savvvy/Girl's Mode 3 game this E3? I mean, I think everyone on this forum completely forgot about it but the last game managed to sell a million copies and its a 3DS game (which are lacking right now).

In any case, give me a hype ticket please.

Sure it's possible. Iwata straight up said in the recent investor briefing they want to target more female players which is also why Rhythm Heaven is a shoe-in for localization since that was his other example as a game to do that.

Devil's Third was confirmed for a 2015 release by the game's director. We'll see it at E3.

Star Fox is by means a flagship IP, but Miyamoto wants to give it some love at E3, probably partially due to how it is one of the games that uses asymmetric gameplay and one of the projects he is spending more time with. At least one of the other garage projects (Guard and/or Giant Robot) will have likely been incorporated into Star Fox too. If not, then they'll just be small-scale spin-offs as Miyamoto said last year that more of these kind of titles were planned for Wii U.

Splatoon DLC probably won't be at E3. Nintendo can share that info with us in a future Direct video over the summer. Besides, the game will already be out and they already gave us a glimpse of the game's free DLC in the last Direct.

Pokken Tournament could be announced, but in name only since development may not have even started on it until the arcade version comes out in Japan later this summer. Most likely a 2016 title if it comes to Wii U at all.

Tecmo Koei will probably announce another Dynasty Warriors X Nintendo IP given the success of Hyrule Warriors set for release next year. The game was a success especially in North America, but perhaps an IP such as Fire Emblem would appeal more to Japanese consumers. However, Fire Emblem has seen an increase in popularity overseas given the success of Awakening on 3DS. Fire Emblem has a lot of characters to choose from and its a medieval fantasy based game too, so how can it not be an ideal candidate ?

It seems hard to say if Intelligent Systems is prepared to announce another title when they've got 3 known games out this year already (code name steam, stretchmo and fire emblem sequel) in addition to likely some level of producer supervision on Fire Emblem X SMT as well.

What about mario 3D world DLC? considering its the anniversary ..

It seems like it's too late for that. Besides, by April 2014, EAD Tokyo said in an interview that it had already started working on something, apparently referring to a new Mario-related project, but did not specific for which platform. I suspect it may be an exclusive for the new 3DS model.

My guesses on what could be announced:

Super Rosalina Galaxy by EAD Tokyo (Wii U)! - The game you didn't know you wanted. Nintendo has teased the return to Galaxy "formula" but Miyamoto said something about Mario not showing up until next-gen consoles. Logical conclusion is taking Galaxy like gameplay and putting Rosalina in charge. A powerful woman lead is a surefire way of accomplishing Iwata's task at increasing the portion of female Wii U owners.

Animal Crossing: Let's Turn a New Leaf by EAD Kyoto (Wii U)! - Similiarly to how Pokémon XY models appeared on the free Pokédex app Animal Crossing: Let's Turn a New Leaf models appeared on the free Animal Crossing app. There's no way they would make those models just for a free app so that alone confirms that the game has to exist. Unfortunately due to Wii U's poor performance the game was downsided to New Leaf remake with additional content. Please understand that city will return.

Metroid Other Dread by Next Level Games (3DS)! - 2D Metroid like your mom used to make. Plays well together with...

Metroid Prime Omega by Retro Studios (Wii U)! - GamePad is your visor, duh. Nintendo is pulling a 2002 here with this game and Other Dread. Released with a selection of Amiibos that support both games.

Advanced Battalion Wars by Intelligent Systems (Wii U!) - You aren't getting a Paper Mario! Instead you get a twisted fusion of Battalion Wars and Advance Wars. Get up close and personal on the TV screen while you control the flow of battle in a very familiar way to Advance Wars on your GamePad screen.

Paper Luigi: The Shards of Truth by Intelligent Systems! (3DS) - Just kidding. IS is working on so many projects you wonder how many people can fit in their new building.

Pokémon: Red & Blue 20th Anniversary Edition by Game Freak! (3DS) - Reremake. Because it sells.

Some cool new IP from EAD's Garage program - Utilizes GamePad in a significant fashion. Can't make guesses about something like this.

Yes please! I would like to see that.

Not sure if Rosalina Universe (the bigger, better sequel to Galaxy) will be announced this year...but I hope we see it soon.
Would be a great way to continue the Galaxy sub series, and not being a "mario" game means they can do a lot of new things allowing them to come up with new ideas.
I want them to do with it what they did with Yoshi's Island.

Difference between MS/Sony and Nintendo is that typically, with MS/Sony's "surprises" & reveals, they are known ahead of time due to their spokespeople saying "You'll see your first look at E3" etc., or a variety of leaks that keep happening as per Gears of War.

With Nintendo, though, it's far more exciting as things are more likely to be held secret until the time. Sure, some things leak out like Mario Maker and Starfox last year...on the day though, but their stuff is always close to their chest and mega surprising, and that's not just at E3 but throughout the year. Who saw Hyrule Warriors coming? Or Captain Toad? (Well I wanted that one but we had no idea it was coming.)

I mean hell, what do we know is going to be there? Mario Maker, yes. We can assume Starfox since that's on track for this year. Yoshi is probable. Xenoblade is possible, but I doubt they'll spend much time on it seeing as it's out in one region already. What else do we have? Very little. There's loads of unannounced titles for Wii U for up to April 2016 according to Iwata, so this E3 is essentially a blank slate.

It's part of the joy that is Nintendo's E3 and is why I am counting down the days to June 16th :)

This is very true. While having things leaked can be fun to get your fix now, it leaves you bored come E3 time because you know everything coming with very few (if any) surprises.

Can't see that happening. No specifics announced beyond what you can read from the original post.

Also compared to an actual release trailer just seeing a Twitter update of NeoGAF thread is so underwhelming way of getting know about a game for the first time.

2 different streams seem counter productive meaning their fanbase would have to watch one over the other. I'm guessing they'll cover more games instead of repeating (like Splatoon last year, iirc) and more playthroughs with the developers

Oh my god this would be amazing. Battalion Wars never gets enough love

Kirby is bigger than Metroid.

And Donkey Kong Country Returns outsold the entire Metroid Prime trilogy. Metroid has never been part of a "big three".

In terms of sales, it's more like:

1. Mario
2. Pokémon
3. Zelda
4. Donkey Kong
5. Kirby

I still think Retro is finishing up their DKC trilogy right now. That be only fair, considering they made three Metroid games in a row before moving onto something else. Part of me thinks that Next Level could be working on Metroid.

It's hard for me to imagine another Donkey Kong game by Retro after the poor sales (even by Wii U standards) of Tropical Freeze. I wouldn't mind it, but I don't really see it happening.

It would be nice if Game Freak offered a modified version of Pokémon Yellow for the 3DS VC. Make it that every Pokémon is catchable in the wild, let the GF director give you a Mew alongside the diploma for finishing the Pokédex and it would be a perfect nostalgia trip for the 20th anniversary! Of course they would never do this. :<

I think a 3rd DK game by RETRO without new technology would be kind of wasteful.
At least TF was the first HD DK game, but even then it was kind of same-y and they didn't use the gamepad well.
I think maybe a new game by Monster Games, which not only did the port of DKCR on the 3DS, but also seemingly did a lot of the grunt work on DKCTF, would make more sense.
I don't think they feel the need to "complete a trilogy". It was made because of the left over ideas from the first game, but it didn't really do too much new, so is the 3rd game made from more left over ideas? TF could've used that
IIRC, I heard their new game was on a new engine? Or was that just speculation from someone? If that's true, why make a new engine for DK?

The "poor sales" are relative. It sold well for a Wii U title. Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is literally the worst selling Kirby game of all-time, and I don't think Hal is going to be abandoning the IP anytime soon. The Wii U is boxed cancer. Releasing a third DKC game is probably a safer investment than releasing a Metroid game that could potentially bomb and cost Nintendo a lot of money thanks to its higher budget. I want Metroid as an NX launch title, then they can release a remastered "Donkey Kong Country Trilogy" in 1080p.
