I don't get this.

All Bethesda games have included 1000 's of lines of spoken dialog Without problem (could use some more diversity though), but adding one or more characters with voice acting would break their backs?

The difference between that one character's number of lines and even the most chatty NPC would still be exponential. It's not a small venture, especially if they want to do multiple voices.

From the initial trailer I'm somewhat looking forward to this, but man do I hope this is much more like New Vegas than it is Fallout 3. Fallout 3 was good, don't get me wrong, but it was missing a lot of humour that I always loved in Fallout which New Vegas added back.

As long as they can add the humour in and properly balance the skills so you can't do what I did before (raise hacking and speech to really high and never worry about anything ever again) then I'm sure this will be a great game.

It won't, but having a Role Playing Game set the actual character of your character through voice acting goes against the role-playing aspect of it.

That's one of my biggest gripes with GW2's personal story for instance, the game basically sets everything up for your character but his appearence, and it's fucking stupid.

It works in Bioware games, because they restrict what your character is to some degree ( Shepard/ Grey Warden ) so it's much more about what your character can be in this specific archetype.

In Bethesda games in general your character has a very open background and is basically a blank slate that can be anything, so you might end-up playing the most ruthless slaver that doesn't care about anyone and ends up selling the wasteland to the worst possible protagonist in the story, and the voice acting might sound like you are 'Gi Last Action Heroe Joe"

Or they might go with a very neutreal tone, which is the safest bet, and in the end it'll just sound boring and regularly out of place.

Hmm. Humor is subjective and all, but I thought it was fine in Fallout 3 personally. Stuff like The Republic of Dave, 3 Dog, Liberty Prime, AntAgonizer etc. It was definitely more depressing on a whole, but the humor there was good IMO.

What if VATS was something you could upgrade? Like in the beginning, it's crap, but then when you run into the Institute, you could "upgrade" it.

I'm thinking that it starts off as almost useless, you can still select individual limbs but there is no time stop. Then you can upgrade it to slow down time at different levels, and when fully upgraded, VATS can stop time.

It becomes something that you can't rely on in the early game and could be used as way to get players comfortable in the later parts of the game as things (hopefully) get hectic.

I like the tone of Fallout quite a bit. Still, nothing touches FISTO.

Tons of enemy variety

Glad someone else mentioned this.

Give us something that sounds like this for the original music, and i'll be all over the game regardless of dumb decisions.

EDIT: Had no idea he did Wasteland 2 as well...him doing the full score for this would be like getting Matt Uleman to come back for Diablo 4.

Matt Uelmen and Mark Morgan made some of my favorite vg music of all time.

Fat chance of seeing Morgan in FO4 though. That would just make too much sense.

Does F4 take place before or after F3?

Because in the trailer you can see trees while there aren't any trees in F3
except for the Oasis
, so it could be that F4 is set right after the bombs fall.

YO!

I think I have a pretty good outline of the plot going by the debut trailer.

The parents. One of them is the MC. The man is more built than the average NPC, which kind of fits with the part about him having military experience.

Alarms blare. Shit is going down. People run to take refuge wherever they can. They try to run to a Vault, carrying their baby.

But somehow, none of them make it in time to get inside. Either that or they are rejected.

Going by the leaks, it makes sense that they survive the explosion and then head to The Institute (aka: the MIT), where they find some cryo capsules that allow the MC to wake up in the future -now the present- with only their old world military experience to fend themself.

Sounds pretty good to me!

works for me

Or it could be inconsistent world design....that or the ecosystem is different. Less bomb damage? West Coast has plant life and stuff. Wouldn't use it as a indicator of time though.

I expect it will be much the same as Fallout 3 and Skyrim in terms of gameplay and quest structure. But with the addition of paid mods, allowing Bethesda to generate money from the community fixing their own game.

After the backlash, I highly doubt we'll be seeing paid mods again.

Maybe for the game's opener, you play the last few hours before the bombs as the vault dweller's parents for those pre-apocalypse scenes. That last scene shows the parents at the vault door with the rest of the neighborhood as the explosion goes off. They get you in the vault and you grow up there.

I really hope this rumour that we are only getting a male protagonist is false. I have always preferred using a female character where possible in my games. I want to create my character and it is one of the reasons why I have never been able to get into the Witcher series.

But it shows a bomb falling relatively close to them when they are on top of the vault. I don't know, we'll see.

Wait -- why does everyone has a problem with that Reddit post? Is it completely illegitimate? What's the go there?

Supposedly she was fired from Bethesda and revenge leaked everything, said she was the one who leaked that stuff on Kotaku. Someone from Kotaku said that's false and that's that i guess.

I've been thinking about Obsidian. I think San Deigo/Tijuana would be perfect for a spinoff. Rebuilt New San Diego + Ghoul populated Dayglow. NCR fighting against a Mexican Force across the border. It has potential. Fallout: New San Diego.

Two words, Mariachi Ghouls.

San Francisco would be great. Fallout: Californian Uprising.

Why would there be trees after a nuclear bombing?

Water is not wet!
Nature finds way to bounce back when given enough time. In this case, most likely, several hundred years.

The quote they were replying to was asking if FO4 is before FO3 because theres more trees. Why would there be more trees right after bombing versus years later?

Already been done:

Because it's one of the many things Bethesda didn't really think about when designing the game world for Fallout 3. Fallout 1 had lots of trees and was set in 2161.

The character in the trailer has a male voice, so it's probably not a silent hero.

Assuming that Bethesda would do something so devoid of sense and contrary to what they've done in their games since their inception by removing gender options to make a story where being a male is somehow an important plot point, Mass Effect also had a male Shepard on almost all of its promotional material, yet still had female Shepard to be taken. There's really no indication of the voice meaning anything, and the character being male certainly doesn't because Fallout 3 (and Skyrim) used one for their marketing as well.

Tell you what, it's weird that now Behaviour Interactive say that they are working on a game with/for Bethesda on their website.

Canon reason? Probably because Boston was bombed less. It stands to reason that the capital would get more bombs dropped on it.

Real reason? New art direction.

It's not weird when you see Bethesda is just listed with all their past partners considering Bethesda published WET for them

So are we going with the main character being the father in the trailer before the bombs dropped, right?

And he is the same person searching through the house with the dog?

Bethesda pubbed WET before they changed names and WET isn't in their portfolio, but they have Wolfenstein: The New Order listed too. That was also pubbed by Bethesda.

Wish Fallout4 would have vehicles instead of fast travel.
But from the looks of the trailer the world map still looks to be the typical gamebryo compressed gameplay space where every "city"/interesting location is in spitting distance from each other.
