I finally got around to watching this a few weeks ago but I forgot to make a thread until now, something Die Antwoord-related popped up on my Facebook feed and I felt compelled to discuss the fucking weird nightmare that is this movie. Honestly, being a Bomkamp fan I had high hopes off the back of the stellar District 9 and the pretty-but-underwhelming Elysium.
You don't even have to start poking holes in the plot for it to make absolutely no sense whatsoever, and I'm genuinely surprised that Hugh Jackman found himself in this mess. Everything from Chappie's existential crisis of choosing between being a fokken gansta or an upstanding citizen, to Hugh's character basically
starting a civil war for the sake of having an excuse to use his Metal Gear.
Yolandi: Chappie... who did this?
Chappie: A man... in a van.
Yolandi: A man in a van?
Chappie: Yeah...
Yolandi: Did he put you in the van?
Chappie: Yeah...
Yolandi: Do you know this man?
Chappie: No... And there were children, also... And they threw fire, even though I said, "please".
