Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain PC performance thread

Running around Afghanistan on D-Horse. I get some strange drops in framerate. Like to 0. Huge stutters. I'm guessing it has to do with loading the world from the HDD. I'm a rock solid 60 at High settings everywhere else.

Radeon 7850

What is your RAM / VRAM usage in game?

with future Nvidia driver versions would I still need to enable HBAO+ specifically from the Phantom Pain profile or will it work under Global Settings as well?

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Lack of SSR sounds like an oversight or bug. It's clearly in the engine, as per Ground Zeroes and the official comparison. An issue is probably causing localreflections in one of the data files to remain unchecked.

2560x1440 all Very High except Post-processing High and stable 60fps in Prologue, seems like great port.

I have not checked, but are the official steam boards asking about it being gone?

I started leaving settings on Extra High in the beginning, but the moment I hit Afghanistan my framerate dropped to pre-AMD-fixed Ground Zeroes. I noticed that by simply putting my Shadows to High while leaving the rest to Extra High, my setup ran into no problems at all.

Anybody able to run locked 60fps at 4K in Afghanistan?

I can do 60fps at 1440P on a single Titan X, but get some dips at 4K. Downsampling does a lot to clean up the image quality, especially in things like power lines and such when looking through the binoculars.

Worth turning down some settings for 4K or just play max 1440?

MGSGZ was not maxable @ 60fps on a Titan X... so I do not think it will be possible unless you turn down something like Depth of field and maybe some other things.

I will be able to present my performance (also a Titan X) in about 25 mins when it finishes download.

If people can and would like, pelase comment my thread on the steam forums about missing screen space reflections so that it it gains some traction!

1440p/60 looks and runs really well on the 980Ti.

Disappointed in the cap though. XB270HU not getting fully utilized. Still, runs really well and looks fantastic. Much better port than most.

Also, why no jump button? Wish I could jump.

Done.

I have a Radeon 7850 as well, same amount of ram but instead an FX-8320 processor. I sit at 60 on High with Motion Blur and Depth of Field both turned off and only frame drop to about 56-58 in random spots where a tonne is being loaded.

Maybe try turning off Motion Blur and Depth of Field?

You mean geforce exp? HBAO+ you set in your nvidia control panel, everything else just set in your ingame options.

no, I meant the control panel. Some posts above someone mentioned that I should enable Ansitropic Filtering via the control panel, thought there might be something else (besides AF and HBAO+) to configure there.

Is anyone else's mouse kind of jittery when the frame rate dips below 60? It was happening in GZ as well but only since I moved to Windows 10. On my old 670 and Windows 8.1 the mouse felt fine no matter what the frame rate was, but now if it's under 60 it feels like it's skipping frames or something. It's pretty noticeable during cutscenes when you can move the camera around, sometimes it looks absolutely shocking and not smooth at all.

According to the Nvidia guide the control panel filtering doesn't do anything for GZ or TPP. All you need to do is turn the texture filtering to extra high in-game and you're good to go.

Having steady 60fps on an R9 290 and 3570k with a mixture of high and ultra settings. Game looks great and works great, good job KojiPro.

So, can someone confirm if the mouse cursor is still showing up while playing with a gameoad?

Not there for me, thank god. Also using an Xbox One controller.

OMG how much of the intro do I have to watch before I can change settings?

Also going in pretty much blind and expecting to play mouse keyboard. Am I in for a shock?

It's not a huge problem or anything. I almost have to force it to happen by running full speed with d-horse and whipping the camera around. I'll test it out though.

Just like Ground Zeroes, I can run this at 4k completely maxed out, completely smooth performance. Absolutely amazing work by KojiPro and pals.

My download is still at about 50% i can't go over 700kbps in here unfortunately...can't wait to play it on i7 4770k and GTX 980 overclocked, i guess i could downsample it at 1440p, but i'll do that after trying the game at native 1080p first. Is it normal that steam download is just 20.3GB? is the rest a update or what?

it is physically painful to me that I can't start fiddling with graphics settings until I get back from work, and I haven't left yet. Oh and I want to play the game too.

Guide shots of HBAO+ were capped with DSR enabled.

aw yiss

Man the prologue was epic.

Just got dumped into the open world and it's really intimidating (especially as I'll be playing without those silly assists like the slowmotion when you get spotted:p)

I also had the slowdowns at those 3 points, but otherwise it seems perfectly smooth (can't use MSI afterburner so can't see my framerate)

It's a really really really pretty game.

Are the controls akward in the map menu and when using the binos for anyone else? Holding F is just akward as shit, it should be a toggle.
I'm using an azerty keyboard and since it doesn't let me remap the map keybinds (what an oversight) the controls on the map screen are borked too.

I'll still be playing this with k/m obviously, aiming with a controller is pure cancer.
