Mad Max PC performance thread

Looks like you accidentally left the filter on during video or photo mode. You just need to bring it back up and turn it off. you can play the entire game with a filter on.

Apparently it's some kind of bug, tried different things and nothing would fix it. Someone on the forums found a temporary fix. Just run the game on borderless and the whole issue is gone. Good enough for now until they patch it or something.

Anyway, so far in the intro gameplay,

GTX 670
i5 3570k
8gb RAM

Maxed out pretty much above 60fps the whole time. Aside from my initial issue, they did a great job on the PC version.

Hats off to you, Avalanche!

Wow just found out this uses Denuvo, after all the negativity that surrounded Denuvo Anti-Tamper and it's performance hitting after-effects it is good to see a game perform this well with it.

JaseC

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
So how does this Denuvo thing works, exactly? Like, can i play offline if i want to?

Arkham Knight is Offline Mode-friendly, so I don't see why Mad Max would be different (I went back to bed after making this thread, so I haven't actually played the game yet, haha).

The recommended system requirements seem like overkill to me. The minimum requirements could probably run the game at or near max settings!

GTX 760 2GB

Everything on max settings @1080p and i only saw 4-5FPS dip in half an hour of gameplay. You can see that game stared as cross gen title but optimization is top notch and game is beautiful. Only thing that is really missing is more options for AA.

I'm glad the PC port has turned out good. Anyone know how a i5 4690k + 970 run at 4k downsampled? (though I'm probably just gonna run at ultra and 1080p)

I put in a few hours and the minimum specs definitely seem like overkill, I'm not that far in but so far it looks like VRAM usage is staying at around only 1.2GB and I think I have everything on max at 1080p minus motion blur because I hate motion blur. I imagine it helps that this game's environment (so far anyway) is pretty sparse. I'm also using NVIDIA's Adaptive Vsync at half refresh on my 144Hz monitor. It's been a solid 72FPS but there's been instances where it seems like the Vsync gets ignored and it jumps way above that.

Specs:

i5 2500k@4.5GHz
16GB RAM
EVGA SSC GTX 970 w/1417GHz boost.
Samsung EVO 850 500GB
Windows 10

I guess the Ripper body type is something we still have to earn?

Anyone with a GTX 960 can comment on the performance? I only play games at 1080p btw.
After playing it for a few hours I don't see you having much issue playing at 1080p and 60FPS on high settings.
Is the game not saving refresh rate setting for anyone else?
I'm playing on a monitor with 2560x1440 @ 144 hz but the game keeps resetting to 23 hz.

It's doing it to me also but it doesn't really seem to be mattering at least as far as I can tell.

Very much so but maybe it's because I'm still fairly early in. *shrug*

Getting a solid 60fps on Very High from what I played. Only done the very start, maybe an hour and a half worth but its been solid 60fps for me. Looks good, just some shitty textures otherwise I think it looks about right for the Mad Max world.

Since I am broken record:

Is the motionblur a per object variant or just a basic/bad camera motionblur?

Hahaha you know what it would actually be nice to see a thread with all the great examples of per object motion blur (Crysis, Uncharted, Ryse, Dark Souls etc) in gif form just to highlight how awesome it can look.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking as well. I mean if my monitor really was only refreshing at 23/24 hz I'd be able to tell. However, as it is, it's running smooth as hell.

No worries, then.

Is there any way apart from downsampling to improve the AA?
Any .ini tweaks found yet?
EDIT: Found the settings.ini going to play around with it.
It's in the main game folder.

So how is the pop-in on PC?

Is there a higher draw distance setting than on consoles?

I was very concerned about pop-in due to all the gameplay videos.
But after playing on PC @ Max settings for the last couple of hours there doesn't seem to be any.
However that could change further in the game.

Yeah I haven't really noticed any pop up either, especially not like what was seen in the videos.

For the heck of it I just set everything to its lowest settings and at 720p, maybe it'd go up if I drove around (I'm only at
Jeet's
) but VRAM usage was around 1080MB.

I think with Max settings there is no pop-in. All the rocks in my game don't pop-in like the console versions. I might need to check again though so I'll get back to you.

ed: There's definitely no pop-in, or at least it's very hard to tell. In all the videos it was so easy to spot.

There must be something in the water in Sweden as Avalanche, DICE and Massive has some of the most impressive tech around but still perform and scale fantastically compared to what's being pushed on screen.

Some of the storm gifs and vids I've seen of Mad Max just look insane the amount of shit going on.

I've experienced no pop-in at all in the 3 hours I've played.

I didn't notice any pop-in. I have everything maxed (heh) except Lights.

So awesome to hear this, It really bothered me in the gameplay videos, if the PC version does not have it, that's really cool.

I told you guys that Avalanche knows how to program :p

Fantastic job Avalanche. I'm not interested in the game right now but i might bite at 15-20€, these guys deserve support.

People with a 670 are saying that they can max the game at above 60fps and the 960 is better, so you should be perfectly fine.

I've not read the topic and I have a very common build, but:

i5 4670k @ 4.2GHz
GTX 970 (Gigabyte G1 Gaming)
16GB RAM

Every setting on full/Max including SSAO, AA and Antisotropic filtering and I was getting between 70 and 110 fps during the first hour @ 1080p. This was with OBS streaming it to YouTube, although I doubt that has TOO much impact on frames.

If you only have a 1080p 60Hz monitor, you're laughing at this game.

Fantastic job Avalanche. I'm not interested in the game right now but i might bite at 15-20€, these guys deserve support.

There's a CD Key(s) website that is apparently banned from this site as it's grey market, that has it for £12.50 or so right now

Also, when I was trying to type in my WB Play ID password, it has an "e" and an "r" character in it - the same two keys that are used to "accept" and "reset password". It was pretty hilarious (perhaps I was missing something), and ended up resetting my password to something that didn't have either in so I could actually do it.

Game run very nice on 1440p resolution. Stable 60 FPS (i7 4770, GTX 780). Under custom settings is more than offer predefined very high settings . There is also Ultra High and MAX. I have problem with Exit Game. Game not turned OFF and I must use task manager ... Does anyone have the same problem?

I love great ports like this. Every single setting maxed out @ 4K and it's a rock solid 60FPS 100% of the time. Of course, I have a 4790K @4.8ghz and dual 980 Ti's in SLI, but still... thrilled with the performance, especially coming off that piece of shit port called Arkham Knight.

R7 265 (overclocked)

Was a little dubious since my GPU is quite low-powered but running at High settings I get a mostly perfect 60. I would've liked it if I get to 74, my monitor's natural refresh rate, but alas, I lack the grunt to do so without killing the game's aesthetic.

I'd say between the screenshots I've seen and the hour or so I played, the game looks like a very nice last-gen game with one or two next-gen-y effects. Particle effects look nice, particualrly smoke/sand, and the skyboxes are really nice too, as is the general lighting and shadows. Texture/geometry looks distinctly last gen to me though, but it doesn't really hurt too much since you're driving past a lot of it most of the time.

getting 120-150 fps with everything Maxed, likely completely Maxed. Very impressive. I'm not noticing any pop in either.

Runs well on my i5 8gb Ram Alienware Alpha on 'High' setting at 1080p

If I were to guess it is running below 60 but significantly above 30.

Looks lovely, runs very nicely IMHO.

Okay I caved it and bought it on GMG.

It's probably not a "great" game that will stand the test of time, but it seems fun enough. Plus, the PC version is highly regarded and I like to reward devs who put the necessary amount of ressource to ensure a quality port (or what I assume it to be).

Kinda strange the game only goes up to a "Very High" preset but you can manually adjust some of the settings beyond that (Ultra & Max).

This all bodes well for Just Cause 3 later in the year.

Well played Avalanche. Always good to see a AAA game taking PC seriously (coughBatmancough).
