Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain PC performance thread

Ok. This is really bad. Ground Zeroes PC didn't update yet so we can't import the saves. Also NO companion app for the PC too like on GZ.

And to top that :

http://cramgaming.com/metal-gear-so...ox-one-vs-pc-graphics-comparison-video-27082/

The companion app thing does suck, but personally I'd rather have the custom soundtrack feature that's exclusive to the PC version.

I'm gonna make the trololol song come out of my helicopter.

What's the total size on steam? Can't wat to start this tonight.

My download was 20.3 GB.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
Can you get the SneakSuit without importing your GZ saves? I have researched and bought it in TPP, but I never imported my GZ save. However, I have completed the GZ mission, and the save file is on my PS4. Would it read it on it's own?

Also- how can you tell what different camouflages are effective? I've been wearing the SneakSuit since I bought it, and it seems to be the best camo you can get? Or am I missing something?

Is there some indicator on camo effectiveness like in MGS3?

Anyone running it with a GTX 960 2GB?

Recently came into possession of a 960, got it overclocked fairly modestly as well, and am hoping to run the game at or better visuals than the PS4 at 1080/60.

GeForce Experience set mostly everything to High-Extra High but I dunno how it'll run.

Well, on my 970 I can get a totally smooth 1080/60 experience with everything maxed on extra high. So I imagine you'll be totally able to get to a smooth 60 with most things on high.

The game doesn't require a restart to apply graphics changes, go nuts.

You can probably do 1080p with high-extra high. Experiment.

Great I would imagine. A 670 ran GZ maxed out with some minor drops, two settings put to high and it was stable 60.

So how is this port?
i7 2600k @3.4Ghz and GTX 980 will i be able to get Max settings at 1080p (or above) @60fps?

Stealth brag?
Yes. 1080p easily. I'd wager with a bit of overhead to push it if you wanted.
2880X1620 down sampled to 1440p at 60fps is smack yo' momma good. My God it's so purty. I was up till 0330 playing this. Feeling that at work now, but damn this game is fun and such a looker. I still think Witcher 3 edges it out in the looks department, but what's here is amazing and I couldn't be happier to have this game and Mad Max to jump between as I've exhausted Witcher 3. Excited to see Africa whenever that happens.

I have both of them, what settings are you running? I have mostly high other than textures at very high and shadows at medium and am getting locked 60, I might have to turn some settings down even more to not stress my pc too much (it likes to randomly turn off in open world games, and no it's not overheating)

I have everything on high except for model detail, textures and post-processing, which are at extra high. Had "effects" at very high, but after changing them to high I think I started getting less framedrops. 99% 60fps with this, with vsync enabled of course, otherwise it stutters randomly. I need to test some more.

Quick questions:

- Will MSI GTX 970 run this at max settings at 1080p?

- Does the game support DS4 natively or do I need DS4Windows?

- If you got the game free with the Nvidia card promotion, do I still get a free copy of Ground Zero?

Thanks!

Runs really well except...

The emblem editor literally drops me down to 2fps until I exit it.

I think it's an issue with the text part of it. It's fine (for me) on pictures and ok on numbers but when you get to words like call signs or normal words it just goes so slow.

Should I just cancel the CE and get the PC version instead? I'm so torn about this...

Um...of course?

Quick hint, you don't need to ask this question for a long time.

DS4 windows.

Nope.

Question: Ground Zeroes ran pretty well for me with the occasional FPS drop with everything at max on my GTX 580, particularly during a few cutscenes. Is TPP more demanding that this will chug the whole way along for me?

4790k @ 4.6ghz
gtx 980 @ ~1450mhz
16gb RAM

Running 1080p @ max settings

Only played the intro so far but game ran buttery smooth, didn't notice any framerate fluctuations even during heavy action scenes. Going to try 1440p down sampled tonight.

3570k
980Ti
16GB
W10

2560x1440
Max Settings

Getting 60 FPS throughout the prologue (amazing) and Afghanistan so far. Only dip I've seen so far was when I dove into the ground while the camera was zoomed in and dust got kicked up. No other issues so far.

This pleases me. I have an extremely similar setup. But honestly we should be expecting that performance anyway lol

It will run at 30fps max with lots of stuttering, I'm sorry.

Seriously though it'll be more than enough for 1080p.

Thanks guys. Never know with PC ports of AAA games these days. Batman burned me badly.

Performance is way better than I expected.

GTX 780
i5-2500k at ~3.8 ghz
8GB RAM
Normal ass hard drive

2560x1600
Textures and lighting VERY HIGH
Effects LOW
Everything else HIGH

60 FPS 100% of the time. I initially had it running at 1080p but was very pleased to discover some nice headroom. I can't see it ever dropping below 60 at this point really, I've seen some pretty crazy ass shit go down on screen without any drops, I don't know what would cause them at this point.

Are people using the mouse and keyboard to play, or mostly controller? My hori pad is good except the analog isn't as precise as I'd like it to be..

I've only played 2 hours so far, but it runs amazingly well on max settings.

2,560 x 1,440
GTX 680
i5 2500k
16GB RAM
850 EVO SSD

I've seen one frame drop during the first mission with the
Man on Fire
and everything else has been great since. I played through half of the second missions with no drops or issues.

Question though - does anyone know of a way for me to replace the xBox controller prompts with Playstation ones? I'm playing using a Dualshock 3 and it kind of sucks remembering where the Xbox X button is on a PS3 controller, etc.

so for HBAO+ we just go to TPP in nvidia control panel and set ambient occlusion to "quality"?

4670 and a 780 here. runs perfect for me 3 hours in. weird cut scene frame drop to 45 fps once in 3 hours. not sure what caused it and havent noticed any others.

DS4 windows.
Nope.

You say that but I can't do max settings on The Witcher 3 at 1090p on my 970.

Thanks for the info though. Massive shame it isn't compatible with DS4 natively. This is arguably the biggest problem with PC gaming when developers can't be bothered with controller compatibility, especially when the controller is fully supported on their console release.

Ground Zeroes runs at a pretty much constant (SOME weird instances) 60fps on my rig with SSAO instead of HBAO

2gig 680 (OCed)
8 gigs of ram
i5 2500k OCed to 4.3ghz

tell me this is the exact same and im happy

Did anyone reply to SalsaShark? I have a 680 Lightning and a 4670K at 4.2 GHz.

That's a bit much to ask, and calling it a "big problem with PC gaming" seems reaching. There's not even an officially supported way to use a DS4 on a PC. Games generally do support the standard dual-analog controller API, which is Xinput on Windows.

(Personally, I have the button mapping hardwired in my optical system at this point, so I have no problem with it)

The 970 doesn't get stable 60 fps on max if you do the control panel thing for better HBAO or what ever its called. I had to enable sli. My cpu is a 2600k.

Edit nvm, I forgot I was downsample to 1440p since this game has no AA options. It should do 60fps fine in 1080p.

The game looks fucking amazing and it performs flawlessly.

The art style is so good, the textures are so nice, the weapon models (first close up at the pistol in the prologue for example) are insane.

Best looking open world I have seen because everything is so consistent.

Still struggling with the controls a bit, I can't figure out how to change my facing while crawling <.< my char tends to just start crawling backwards instyead of turning around.

I played for a couple hours this morning. 1440p maxed with a 780 Ti. No major dips as far as I could tell, so am very happy with the port so far. Using DS4 Windows for the DS4 controller.

Wonder if your CPU is the bottleneck then? The recommended specs suggest only a 760 for the GPU, but a 4790 for the CPU. Maybe the game is very CPU intensive?

well I only played Witcher 3 on console and it looked like playmobil to me. I don't mean that games have to look realistic or natural, but something always seemed off in TW3 to me. Like the different elements aren't meant to be together.

Wut

Oh fuck me. I updated my drivers and lost custom resolution's in W10. Can't seem to make it work anymore. No more downsampling...

You certainly get used to it and stop thinking about it, particularly if there are no prompts that show up in game. But the "x" vs "x" thing always throws my brain for a loop when I see a prompt in game. Drives me a little crazy and is literally the only reason I use my Xbox controller on games (But it's big enough that I can't get past it).

Someone mentioned a PS button swap mod for GZ... I cannot wait to see that come out for TPP.

Okay, I'll mess around with it. Had to go into work before I could play around with it, so I just wanted to see some impressions, but from the sounds of it I'll probably need to leave Post Processing on High, and everything else can probably be Extra-High.

I'll experiment too, of course. :D
