90% of this thread totally missing or ignoring that the piece of shit owner intentionally dropped their leashes and ordered them to attack. Worst part is the dogs will probably have to be killed while the owner gets a couple thousand dollars in fines.

Piece of shit better have some jail time if the dogs have to be legally put down.

No. Owner will see jail time. She got charged with 8 counts of assault and there were many eye witnesses, including the victim.

Good riddance to her.

I don't believe anyone here is saying that the dogs are solely to blame and the woman is innocent.

That's because in the past 15-20 years it's become the official dog of irresponsible assholes. (Not every owner is an asshole obviously, but assholes love pit bulls because it makes them look tough.)
Or they're dogs who can fuck shit up, making them the dog of choice for assholes. (just like rottweilers were before)
No asshole can train a cavalier to fuck shit up, no unneutered or untrained cavalier is gona try to maul people either.

I just don't like dogs and this makes me uncomfortable. Yesterday a dog tried to come after my daughter who was riding a tricycle and the dog just missed my daughters legs as she held the leash at the right moment, the owner was like oops and walked away, I despise creatures who cannot be controlled by the owner unless by force and this was not a pit bull or a big dog this is one of those medium sized dogs that most people have as pets
Eh, dogs have been bred alongside humans as companions for thousands of years, there's no reason to be uncomfortable around them in general.

They're much much much more domesticated than cats (your avatar)

There was a pitbull wondering the neighborhood with 3 other dogs, a german shepherd and some small dogs earlier. I didn't even think twice when I called it over to me, it was so docile and I petted it. I tried to get a pic of them but they took off too fast for me to know.
Man , I love dogs and don't fear them but groups of dogs (especially without an owner accompanying them ) is the one thing I'm weary of (no matter what breed, as long as they're bigger dogs).
I'd go around a big circle if I saw a GSD, pitbull and some other dogs walking around together. If shit escalates then good luck controlling them or defending yourself.

Ban pitbulls

Pretty race and kind when controlled but any race with a potential to snap and kill should die already.

Pitbulls defense force is the same as gun defense force... Except pitbulls can go off easier.

with that kind of logic we would have to kill 90 % of all animals on the face of the planet and probably ourselves too.

The most frustrating part of all of this is how defensive some dog owners get. I believe most have good intentions, but it is very difficult to even bring the subject up. They love their dogs, period. And it hard to get much discussion going after that.

If dogs were just around their owners and no one else, then who cares. But they can end up affecting other people who had no desicion or choice when it came to purchasing and raising the dog.

I don't say kill them, but there should be a law that bans them in 15 years. So if you are seen with a pitbull in 15 years, you will get an absolutely massive fine.

Ugly breed anyways and dangerous. Don't kill them right now, but finish this breed off.

This might explains something about my parents new puppy and his desire to bite a whole lotta shit, even hands, toes, and even faces. Got some pit bull in him, for sure (looks a bit like one too). Just a pup, so we're trying to mind his biting through training and startling the shit out of him when he bites our hands too hard. If he doesn't lose his habit of biting, gonna send him back and he'll likely be put down. Bastard has crazy jaws at only two months old.

Seems like pit bulls do have some nasty tendencies. Kill 'em all? I don't think so. That owner will hopefully spend some long days thinking about how stupid they are.

Ummm, no.

I wouldn't mind maybe needing some sort of training or license to own one (or some other solution) but this is crazy talk.

That's not the case. The article has since been updated to reflect new information.

No I think the most frustrating part is the people calling for the breed to be killed off and posts of the like. It's understandable people get defensive when walking into a thread and are confronted with that.

I don't have a pit not do I prefer one breed of dog over another but some of the posts here make me a bit sad.

so what about all the majority of pitbulls that don't do this

or do you have some angry label for me too nos

I didn't say anything... /s

On topic... Horrible stuff. Glad the guy's alright.

The whole "junkyard dog" (I dont know if this is the right term, I use it when talking about rednecks raising fighting/attack/guard dogs) culture is horrible. People buy the meanest looking dogs they can and train them (mistreat/abuse) until they become vicious. No animal deserves that and now these dogs are going to be put down because they were raised poorly. SMH. Before anyone asks, yes I realize that some breeds are more prone to violence than others, and pitbulls are a dangerous breed when raised incorrectly. Doesn't mean it's the breed's fault that this happened. The owner could have just as easily trained German Shepherds, Dobermans, Mastiffs, or Dalmatians.

The title and the cut in the video make it seem like a different story unless people read that actual text. I feel bad that people train their dogs to attack and almost any dog can be trained to attack.

I think this is why dog bites went down in Denver after they banned pit bulls. It forced all the assholes that just want a dog that make themselves look tough to move to another city.

If it were banned on a national level, I'm sure those types of people would just move to another breed.

According to this data, huskys are actually far more dangerous than pit bulls, they just have a lower percentage of ownership. Rottweilers are equivalent as well. Should we git rid of all of them too?

KaBQE1.png

I dunno, but I don't fuck with any of those breeds. Some of the best dogs I've ever known are German Shepherds, and if I see a GS I don't know, I treat it like it's a grizzly bear or a Bull. Ain't going near it.

Pitbulls occupy both extremes of the aggression spectrum in my experience. The really good ones, there's practically nothing you could do to them to make them react. They are the gentlest dogs I've ever encountered, and I work with dogs for a living.

It's almost certain to happen. I mean, pitbulls aren't the only dog breed that has/had a bad reputation.

Nothing inherently wrong with the breed itself, but some dog breeds are too much for most people to handle.

Lot of ignorance in this thread about the breed. Even basic research like Dogs 101 can tell you they're not something that needs to be banned. They just need better owners, which could be said of all dog breeds (but how to enforce that is the question).

In fact, the only super bad (as in straight-up attacking) situation I had with a dog was a golden retriever. At the dog park, he tore my standard poodle's ear. It was terrible and definitely made it clear ANY big breed can be dangerous.

I've interacted with around 10, and I can't agree more.

And I'm a huge dog lover. Even obnoxious yippy mini chiuahas

I've interacted with somewhere near 100 at shelters that friends worked at and ones owned by friends. Only 3 or so were vicious, all of which were BADLY abused in their previous homes. And FYI, none of my friends that had one did it to look badass, they did it to rescue dogs they had already bonded with.

Anecdotal evidence sure is great.

pit bulls are both dumb and ugly and nobody should own one tbh/imo

I prefer to own small dogs whose ass I can kick if he ever tried to pull some bullshit. Scottish Terriers, for example. Generally very docile and quiet, but if they ever get feisty, they can't kill me.

If you train your damn dog right, they won't be pulling any bullshit.

Sorry I should have been more clear. I was talking more about in general, not this thread. And as you can see above, I consider those type of posts crazy.

They're like assault rifles. In responsible hands the distinction between other guns is meaningless. The problem is they're magnets for irresponsible dickheads. I see Pit Bulls as the same.

When has an M-16 ever snapped and attacked someone?

If assault rifles could fire of their own volition I'd agree with this analogy.

Ah, yes, toy sized dogs. One good couch sit would take it out and keep the family safe. lol.

I had havanese dogs as a kid, best dogs ever btw.

That's not true. Guy I work with has a gorgeous Pit that's skin is this shark gray absolutely gorgeous and he has treated that dog like a queen since she was born. We were watching a playoff game at his house and we jumped up and were shouting. Dog started freaking out and he went to put his hand down to calm her and she latched on to his forearm thankfully he got her to disengage but he was completely tore up.

That's BS. There are situations when your training won't do jack shit, and the worst part is if your dog happens to be a pitbull. This nasty breed is most notorious for this, and it's a fact that they were used as a bait to kill boars and others.

Page 5 and people are still commenting on the video and not reading. If you read the story the owner was a woman who commanded the dogs to attack. Everyone you see in the video trying to control the dogs is a bystander/good Samaritan. Thank god they stepped in.

I understand the defenders and their arguments, but at the end of the day the breed has a reputation for being violent and even though there can be some innocent breeds caught up in the bans it's easier to ban a breed of dog then weed out asshole owners. By the time you find out who they are it's too late.

Wrong on all 3 counts. A proper well proportioned pit is an incredibly beautiful dog.

They're known to be intelligent and easy to train because they're very eager to please their owner. Plus they're freakishly athletic.

That's one of the biggest reasons why I want a pit. They are also oddly affectionate. Easily one of the most affectionate breeds I've met.

My brother had a beautiful pit that loved everyone and would lick/gnaw on your hand for as long as you'd let her, she was also best friends with his then 2 year old son. She was ran over before she was even 2 but she was a great dog, anyone that says pits aren't worthwhile or anything of the sort can fuck right off.

i have seen these fuckers attack even worse than this when fixated on a single target. if you are a person trying to break them up you are fucked if the dog isn't yours. best chance you got in close quarters is to let them latch onto your forearm so they lock and hold them close and then shoot and stab them to kill where it counts. you are still gonna get fucked up.

i have seen shit go down with supposed trained pits before and there are situations where all that shit goes out the window and they will fixate until the death.

there is a reason why those breeders crate the fuckers, rotate them around, muzzle if need be and carry a break stick. if you have one and are able to straddle and yank up by their chain on the neck and use a break stick you can get them to rebite and you can try and pull away. don't put your fucking hands anywhere near the mouth or when they see red they will bite up your hand to.

making noises, shooting them with water and even light attacks aren't going to phase them. when they hulk up shit is going down so you have to either get control or kill them. if its not your dog don't even fuck around i would climb a tree if i could.

With an attitude like this, I can't imagine why people find pit defenders so abrasive.

This is another thing.

You know what the pitbulls used to be known for? That Little Rascal dog. People had them as companion dogs, and they acted as such. The rare attacks went mostly unnoticed because that's all they were, rare. Now that they've developed a reputation due to a multitude of factors, they've ended up being owned by far more people looking for a fighting dog.

Meanwhile, when 101 Dalmatians hit and everyone wanted one of those, we learned a shit ton of people didn't know how to handle their temperament and they ended up being labeled pretty vicious too. But because of a cute Disney movie, even that was overshadowed by their friendly portrayal.
