Xenoblade X: preload and data packs available to download

What the heck? These devs seem to be so scared of potential controversy they're making changes that make no sense. Don't give me fewer options just because I'm in another region!

And this game is not for a children, with story, ambiant more mature and less shonen than xenoblade, so I dunno why it was rated 12+ in Europe(It should have rated 16+) because the JPN version got the black case. But with all these changes I know why the rated is lower than the japanese version...

Ok I downloaded all the packs last night and my HD is down 10gb but I don't see the files anywhere. Nothing under data management. Do I have to wait until I run the game for the files to show? Not that I would want to delete them but if did I can't. Seems strange. Although not nearly as strange (and stupid) as having to download install files rather than just copy them off the disc itself.

The data packs aren't on the disc, they wouldn't fit. That's why they exist.
I'm not sure about deleting them.

man I wanted to contain my hype for this but being able to download these data packs was kind of the breaking point.

I've actually avoided most everything about the game so far. You can specialize the main character as a tank, correct? That was my problem with Xenoblade, it kept expecting me to play as Shulk to use the Monado but the NPC tanks were useless at their jobs.

Also I want to play as a big red mech with a pile bunker and call it Alteisen.

Yeah there's a lot of class options for your Avatar in the game.

The music in that new trailer is so *** epic!

Anyone knows if it is on YouTube or something? I want to hear the whole track!

EDIT: Nvm, found it!

Having a hard time now deciding between digital & physical. It feels like digital will be quicker and these packs are helping catch physical copies up to digital's speed but not quite. Is there even really any info on this yet?

I think digital and physical + packs are the same thing actually.
Only problem is physical without packs

I thought the game itself was 22GB. In theory, that leaves another 3GB of space on a Wii U disk, doesn't it? Not to mention that I remember reading that audio can be compressed pretty well. I wouldn't count it off the disk just yet, personally, or even as DLC on day one. Though if the dub is as good as the original Xenoblade, I might not even use the Japanese audio even if it's offered.

The game doesn't get the full 25GB. I don't know exactly how much space it takes up, but at least 1.1 GB or so is devoted to storing the minimum version of the OS to run the game.

Also, while audio can be compressed, keep in mind that there's a ridiculous amount of voice acting in this game. According to the Iwata Asks, there are 11000 lines of battle banter alone.

In case anyone's curious, the preloaded data shows up as 19 GB once it's installed.

I'd hope they're just staggering the data pack availability to avoid killing their servers, but some word from NoE would be good...

It is odd once you download it, it doesn't show up anywhere.

Mine downloaded (about 2 hours for all the packs), and then I didn't see anything. I thought oh, and turned off the system. About half an hour later I notice the orange light is on and is not turning off, so I turned on the system to see what was up. The data packs which had been downloaded were now "installing." And that took a bit of time too. Now they show up when I look at the data on my memory.

I think I'm gonna just download the basic pack..I'm not shelling out $60+ just for Xenoblade data packs.

I assume they are talking about not wanting to buy an external drive, although you can go way cheaper than $60 on a usb flash drive so I dunno.

Huh? The game costs $60. If you purchase a digital copy from the eShop, there's no need to download the data packs. If you have bought a physical copy, the data packs are there to improve loading and streaming times at no extra cost. I downloaded all four data packs for free, and I'm eagerly waiting for my physical copy to arrive in December.

However, if you're talking about needing to buy external memory to fit the files...then yeah, that's unfortunate. The data packs will fit fine on a 32GB system (though it may require you delete or move other things), but on an 8 GB system, it'd be impossible to have all of them without external memory.

I thought they were free?

They are.

EDIT: Yikes, I'm the last in an avalanche of responses. Oops.

maybe he needs to buy a external storage device to store all the data packs

That would make sense, but external hard drives aren't "$60+." Especially with Black Friday looming, getting a smallish one that's more than enough for Wii U usage will probably be under $20.

Question: If I get the digital version of XBX are the data-packs even worth downloading? or are the speeds on the digital version the equivalent of the data-packs because its on the HDD?

No, they are specifically for the disc version.

What the fuck NoE. Can someone ask them with a tweet or something? There's still time but I wouldn't want to download 10 gigs of stuff on launch day with Nintendo servers

Thankfully reviewers in Europe got download codes so they don't need data packs.

NOE does not reply to tweets. They might read tweets and yes it seems everyone Xenoblade X tweet they put out someone does mention the data packs. I really don't get NOE at times. There is a complete lack of preload in general as well.

question about this: i downloaded all three packs and they are on my system memory (32GB). I also have an external HDD attached with 80 gigs.

when i get my game disc, will these 3 packs have to 'unpack' or is everything good to go? Because I don't have enough room to unpack them so they'd have to extract onto the external drive... and tests have shown that the internal memory is faster (unless it's an SSD)

I don't want to have them extract onto the external only for me to have to move them BACK onto the internal memory once it's done. Takes like an hour to move all 3 from one to the other.

My data packs are downloaded and ready. I haven't been more excited for a game all year! Damn well sucks I have to wait a few days after launch for my CE to arrive from amazon, but when it gets here? Ooooh baby!

The extracting is the installing part done after downloading and downloading off the eShop always needs space to install (this is why sometimes the actual size and data downloaded are smaller than what the eShop says). They'll go to external by default then you can move to internal. However ignoring that dated Japanese MH3 test (which usually what I see as proof that external is slower than internal) in the preview thread one poster found that external (7200rpm) is faster (higher RPM should be faster seek time which is the problem HDD has in these situations).

The more I play the more it seems ranged weapons suck. I mean, I'm doing 5000+ damage with a single art (Incendiary Edge) whilst ranged weapons seem to do much less. Maybe it's just the class paths I've chosen though, haven't tried everything. But from my point of view melee > ranged so far.

15,3Go needed for all 4 packs.

Worth noting you only need 15.3gb if you do the whole lot at once. If you're tight on space and can't quite manage that, do them one at a time.
