Xenoblade Chronicles X - Review Thread

It seems like a low seller to me, and my mother living in Japan went to a gamestore and showed me a picture of the game discounted pretty far which tells me it wasn't selling well enough for retailers but maybe I'm wrong.

Just a heads up: You are now trying to prove a point by using analysis from your mom.

Games get discounted much faster in Japan due to a very active used market. Used games start showing up at cheaper prices within a week of release, which drives retailers to sell at lower prices.

Is that so? Didn't know that. From her pic it seemed like games are higher priced there too depending on the IP. Like dragon quest builders preorder was like $70, battlefront was like $60 and xenoblade was like $25

Loving the overall score averages I'm seeing so far.

This is most likely my last purchase for the year and I can't wait. I really hope I'm able to dig into this one more so than the other open world games I've played as of late. I've loved Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 but after about 30 hours or so of each, kinda lost the drive.

With that said I put in over 100 with XC so I'm confident this will get the same if not more.

The stuff the reviewers are saying about the story is a bit disheartening, but pretty much expected based on what I've seen and heard even before the reviews. I really wish they had just went with a regular main character instead of the player created one. The story might end up surprising me, though - I really hope it does as my expectations are fairly low on that side of things.

My expectations concerning the story are super low thanks to the reviews and everything else we've heard since the Japanese launch, so at least I know I won't be disappointed. Might even be pleasantly surprised by it.

But for now, I'm going in on a MMO/grind-fest/explore mindset.

Thanks for the replies, all. Looking forward to playing this game on Friday! I also really really want that hardcover guide D:

And people wonder why I give Bethesda shit for releasing buggy games.

Feeling a lot of vindication from the import thread with people saying untrue hyperbole with the intent of dehyping the game.

There's no stopping this train.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure when it changed to this kind of thinking, and why?

I mean, I grew up with Nintendo, SNES, Genesis, and N64. When games were reviewed around the 7/8/9 range I'm thinking, yeah! Looks like a solid game!

Freaking exactly.

Back in the old days if a game got a 7 I knew it was solid and enjoyable.

My library was full of 7's and they were great.

Oh and kudos to XBX. I knew it would be great <3

Yeah maybe so, she was there during some event for dragon quest builders and said it was crazy.

It was literally just a misremember, not sure why you and other members of a certain subgroup think I'm some evil villain out to get nintendo lol
When one use his/her mother to cover his/here ass it's a bit villain, yes.

When you state things as factually and dismissive as you tend to do people aren't tolerant of misremembers. If its a genuine misremember that's fine but in the context of "everything" you've said about the game it comes across as intentional. This is me being honest. Personally I think the Japanese sales were disappointing but I think given that pretty much everything on the WiiU is doomed to mediocre sales it's not horrible.

Since always. Unfortunately.

No.

Magazines like N64 Magazine, CVG and EDGE used the scale correctly in the 90s.

Aero Gauge and the like got 1/10. That meant bad. Average games got 5/10. Good games got 7 or 8 out of ten. Very few games, such as Ocarina of Time got 9/10 or above.

If she was there recently, Battlefront came out last week, Builders isn't even out yet, and Xenoblade has been out 6 months. Of course it is going to be significantly cheaper. It's initial price was (¥8.316).

I'm not really understanding the Polygon review. A lot of his complaints regarding the ui etc. are easily fixable by just taking even a glance at the settings menu.

Yeah it was a simple misremember and I know I can be a bit rude or mean sometimes but I try not to. Just happens sometimes, get caught up in the moment sometime?

And yeah. All Wii U games are doomed to financial failure and have to hope for at best sales like smash bros.

yea and those games are doing so much more graphically its not even comparable. except for skyrim never looked at that game.
LOL you have to compromise somewhere

I'll take this with no loading times, over better looking games with so many problems

Those games would not look like they do if they were this big

I anything, I've also heard things about fallout 4 not looking too hot, I have not played it yet tho. I hold off on it to play xeno

This game for its scale and size is super impressive, specially on a less powerful hardware

Just a couple weeks ago, so battlefront must have been a preorder too. Was just surprised to see dragon quest builders so highly priced compared to the other titles.

Dude, just admit that you were wrong and stop blaming this on your memory or your mother. In your rush to shit on another Wii U game, you stated some things without even checking them and those turned out to be very wrong. Bad luck. Admit it and move forward. And next time study more.

All right, I loaded in the Metacritic and Opencritic links into the OP since we now have a lot of reviews.

Metacritic: 84 (31 reviews)
Opencritic: 84 (21 reviews)

This is a little bit off-topic, but I agree. I think Square-Enix is making a bit of a mis-step by pricing it so high, when Minecraft has been so successful due to its low entry pricing. They will make their money off it though.

I'm still on the fence whether I want to buy Xenoblade. I didn't get too far in the first game, it was a bit daunting to me and had some clunky systems. I might get it too support Nintendo on principle though.

Also apparently like previous Xenoblade, X has insane quality control for how massive this game is. And when comparing it to something smaller like FO4 there is a problem here. Fallout 4 had numerous bugs day 1 not to mention the major issue on Xbone version where it drops to 0 FPS. There are new bugs found in FO4 constantly. Xenoblade X currently no reports of bugs I have seen "yet" in Japan or western release that scale being so large with minimal bugs glitches is the work of having really good quality control.

The memory of my mother? What? It was me misremembering my own post which I already linked in here... Lol.

Ive had xenoblade preordered for a while, those mecha are just so cool I had to play! Look for me in the OT when the game launches!

We're talking about gamers, not reviewers

Of course, I wasn't around in the earlier days of online forums, so maybe gamers weren't as stupid back then

Xenoblade's story was ridiculous in that it was very long and the main characters ended up doing ridiculous things with crazy repurcussions. I get the impression that X is more focused on humanity's plight rather than the fate of the
known universe
. I don't expect the same kind of high JRPG "epicness" as Xenoblade Chronicles but I could be wrong.

I don't know who Chuggaconroy is or didn't until hearing him on GameXplain but that dude seems to know his shit.

yeah dude is pretty knowledgeable on the series, he has a whole video series on youtube of him playing Xenobalde 1 and he narrates and talks alot about the lore and world and stuff, as well as strategies for fights and such. I haven't watched alot of his videos, but those that I have are good stuff.
