Nintendo: Big Announcement on Monday

Even so, I can't think of a proper BC implementation (as in: not implemented on a game-by-game basis) on any console that does upres-ing.

N64 games on both Gamecube and Wii are properly rendered at 640x480 versus their native 320x240. Which is why I'm really hoping they continue this trend and eventually release 1080p N64 games... but it's looking less and less like this will happen.

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.

N64 games are a game-by-game case. I'm referring to actual BC, where you take the original medium of an arbitrary old-gen title and run it on the new gen.

So was the Wii-U officially the last platform to not have minecraft?

I mean hell, they've ported the thing to car radios at this point.

ALL ABOARD.

Edit:
Real predictions:
-Undertale port
-Minecraft port
-Smash Direct date.

My guess with hindsight is Minecraft. I'm quoting this because that's my favorite Hype Train gif.

I'm very surprised this wasn't shoehorned into the Direct as, like, the first announcement. I mean, even if the Wii U's late to the party, and I was hoping for something else more pertinent to my personal tastes, this is still pretty big. As in, "I'm surprised that this was announced via Twitter" big. There was a thirst for Minecraft on Nintendo systems for awhile now; a bland, mediocre Minecraft clone managed to linger as one of the Wii U's most popular games just because it was the closest available option anyone had.

Regardless of how I feel about the series, and despite the console's dying state, this is going to sell gangbusters,

Disappointing, but still sort of major. Now the majority of kids games reside on Nintendo's console, which is good. I think it's a bit late in the game, but Minecraft is a beast, so we'll see :/

Lol, when will they learn to stop hyping stuff no one gives a damn about?

They didn't really hype it. they didn't even do a real official announcement-of-an-announcement thing. One dude who works in the indie game division mentioned in a podcast interview that there was a cool announcement on monday, and gaf did the rest because apparently we're addicted to hype trains and/or crushingly thirsty for nintendo news.

A Nintendo employee mentioning on a podcast that they have "a big announcement" = Nintendo hyping a product? Uh...what?

Nintendo's official channels made no mention of a product announcement to my knowledge. The only hype is the hype started by yourself.

To be clear, Nintendo didn't overhype this. Gaf (and the internet) overhyped this.

Yep! Just like I was saying earlier in the thread in how so many over analyze a thing and get so over-hyped, they then start acting like a company has killed their family pet and get severely disappointed.

Everyone is crushingly thirsty for news about things they love. Look at PSX and everyone over analyzing Layden's Crash Bandicoot shirt thinking and hoping a Crash Bandicoot game is in the works when it means just as little as whatever pin Reggie may be wearing on his suit at an event.

i guess i showed my bias in thread browsing. i'm far enough away from buying a ps4 timewise that i'm only around to witness nintendo-related-thirst.

You've gotta be kidding. The game that's already on every other platform? Not exactly big news.

For like, the millionth time; Nintendo's PR department didn't trumpet from the rooftops that they were announcing "big news". A guy in a podcast essentially said, whilst chatting about some other indie stuff; 'oh yeah that reminds me, look out for some big news on Monday'.

GAF blew it out of proportion (initially in a humorous manner and as an excuse to post the usual hilarious gifs etc), then as always some take it seriously and inevitably get their ridiculous hopes dashed.

It was clearly, to anyone with any reason, only ever going to be Minecraft or possibly another indie release date.

Yeah but its Nintendos fault if there's nothing to look forward to, so of course the fan community is hyping every little stuff, hoping it would be something great everyone is waiting for.

But its Nintendo, they give a damn about their fans.

Gladly, I knew from the beginning it would be Minecraft Wii U, so I'm not disappointed in any way.

But news like this should not be worth calling a big announcement, even if it comes from a indie guy at Nintendo. They just should kept it silent, so nobody could hype the announcement up. They should never have said it would be a big announcement. Just announced it today and nobody would be complaining.

It's the Nintendo difference.

It was an offhand comment in a podcast.

So they shouldn't announce any games unless it's the one that you want. Gotcha.

1. Minecraft WiiU is somewhat of a big deal, even if it is late to the party(and not something I care about).

2. We did in fact hype this up too much here on GAF.

3. Nintendo has had a pretty lousy year for announcements though.

Hopefully they have enough sense to have someone working on a skin pack with Nintendo characters and Nintendo flavored items.

"They should never have said there would be a big announcement on monday. Just announced it today and nobody would be complaining. "

So because of those who can't help but irrationally get their own hopes up and throw their toys out of their pram, Nintendo's entire staff from top to bottom should refrain from showing enthusiasm when chatting about a game. Gotcha.

To be fair, Minecraft is a big announcement whether some may not think it. It is essentially the Tetris of this generation for kids.

I know, but the problem is, kids do not care about Nintendo anymore.

Atleast in my country (Germany)

Whenever I hear kids talking in a bus, they talk about violent stuff, Playstation and smartphones.

This announcement is great because:

1) It's actually a very big deal, so it absolutely deserves the label "big announcement"

2) It turns the screws for everyone who worked themselves up into a stupid hypegasm about Retro Studios Dark Matoor Startropics 3: A Fire Emblem Tale Featuring John Halo and Nathan Drake: Exclusively for NX: Which Is 1000 Times More Powerful Than PS4: Also Sony Is Not Good And Nintendo Is The Best.

Seems win-win to me. I was expecting something much smaller like a sale or announcement of an announcement or something.
