Issues using mic port on new Dualshock 4

I'm able to use other mics, as long as they are the standard config. Apple mic never worked for me, even with launch controller.

I'm surprised your friends didn't yell at you when you used the Apple mic on the old controller. It creates a horrible static sound for anyone else in your party

OP clearly stated that he didn't recognize the issue only with apple earpods, but several different headsets.

I myself have the same issue. I would have created a similar thread a few weeks ago if I was able to.

I had 2 Dualshock 4 controllers, one came with my launch PS4, I got the other one around launch time as well. Both worked perfectly fine with my Sennheiser Momentum headset.

Recently I bought two new controllers from different resellers in different colours (1 white, the other black) and encounter the same problem on both controllers. My mic doesn't work anymore on the new controllers, whereas it worked absolutely fine on both of my launch controllers.

Therefore I can totally relate to the thread title and agree, that it is a problem that is not up to apple but up to the new Dualshock 4 revision.

Those are also CTIA headsets. The issue is that the old controllers appeared to support a standard they weren't supposed to. Usually this can happen because some of the poles are shorting which usually causes a buzzing sound.

This is eye-opening for me. I tried skyping with my boss while abroad recently. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my headphones that day. I had to borrow my collaborator's apple headphones but my audio wasn't coming through. In the end he had to make an international phone call. I thought the headphones were faulty, but turns out it was just Apple fuckery all along. Seriously, fuck Apple.

The bad thing is, many headsets available in stores are the "apple compatible" versions and people don't even realize it. My Ue4000s have two distinct sub model numbers, right on the box in small print one version says "apple compatible" and the other rarer one says "android or universally compatible". I didn't notice when I bought them, and got the wrong ones so I just use them for other things now.

well, TIL. they're still using the same plug! so it's partly correct. (
the best kind of correct)

Incorrect again

:)

I'm using a Kingston Hyper X Cloud headset on my DS4 with no issues.

Love that headset so much

Apple has their own signaling standard: http://allaboutwindowsphone.com/flow/item/17561_Jays_AB_headset_for_Windows_Ph.php

If you've gotten Apple specific headsets to work previously, it was probably a fluke.

Sony doesn't have a proprietary headset standard. There is AHJ/CTIA, OMTP, and Apple's own take on AHJ/CTIA.

There are pin layout standards and there are manufacturing realities when creating a connector.

What you imagine to exists just doesn't exist based on how 3.5mm pin connectors work. Just look at any of the pictures posted and this will be absolutely clear.

Ok, so maybe that's just what the seller was trying to explain to me or perhaps he misunderstood the error he discovered himself

I wouldnt use that wikipedia table as 100% correct as all the vita accessories work with the DS4 but that table says they shouldnt :p

I have really strange issue as well .

I was using this

to connect my Steelseries Syberia V3 to my Dualshock 4 .One day this just stopped working.
My friends stopped hearing me. I am not sure what went wrong ,but the HAMA thing is working on other devices.

This does not sound likely. There may be an issue with a certain manufacturing batch.,, or it is your headphone cord... I would return the DS4s and get new ones to see and try your headphones on other devices. If they are Apple earbuds (with all of that companies proprietary nonsense), the problem is most likely on Apple's end, to be honest.

The internet always jumps to crazy conclusions when there are isolated issues.

I got a copy of Mario Kart 8 that didn't work last week. Would have made a crappy thread about it if I had known that was the fastest way to get obvious feedback.

Thread title would have been "Nintendo's newer Wii-Us restrict Mario Kart 8".

Honestly, I hope this stops people from using those damn apple headphones. The feedback on those things is atrocious.

Related but not quite the same;

I have a pair of Crossfade LP's with a mic in the cable, the mic works fine but sound only
comes to one ear? As if I had just plugged in the earbud you get with the console.

Anyone else experience this/have a fix?

Thanks for clarifying this. Is there any workaround/option to use my CTIA headset with the new controllers not supporting that standard anymore?

obviously a result of shorted feedback from an incorrect pin contact. I mean, they don't sound like that on phone calls.

I like that the OP is just matter of fact but is dead wrong.

Its comman knowledge that Apple EarPods never worked without causing static for the listener. The pins one the connector are not standard.

I'm sure the thread covered this.

Edit: yup

You've got audio output set to chat audio instead of all audio on the DS4.

Obviously - as others have stated - Sony has changed the compatibility of its newer DS4 controllers with the CTIA standard. Therefore I fail to understand your analogy. This thread is clearly not about ONE defective unit.

Check through the thread there was a reddit thread that had links to some adapters that would make it work. This is really Sony's fault they should have laid out the specs that the controller officially supports.

I don't think they changed it on the newer ones since mine have never worked with Apple earbuds but it seems many of the early headphones have a socket that allows other standards to work. Whether this is a defect causing incorrect grounding or what I have no clue.

They where never designed to support that standard.

I am glad they have changed it as it will save us from hearing those users who produced stupid amounts of noise that pollute chat channels.

Thanks Sony.

I completely get why you hold that view. I don't on the other hand get the hate for the OP and thread title.

Sorry man, I'm one of those, but it's just because I have them lying around the ones that come with the ps4 I can't find.

Anyway? Glad it's cleared up, can some Good Samaritan come up with a list of the best headsets to get for ps4 now? Maybe highest quality, best middle of the road, and best bang for your buck?

You can get CTIA-OMTP adaptors AFAIK

ps3ud0 8)

Thanks. I am going to look into one of these adaptors then. Never heard any complaints about my mic's quality using the Sennheiser Momentum headset on both of my old DS 4's before.

Because it is incorrect, I am using non ps4 mic without issue.

CITA was never designed to work and happened to for some by a fluke, Sony corrected an issue, they did not suddenly block support for non ps4 mics.

It was well aware to most that CITA mics weren't supported.

They might have been supported on earlier jacks but I have no clue why it is so scattershot. If this was a revision than all earlier DS4 should work with them but mine and many others don't so it's either a mic jack sourcing issue or a manufacturing defect. Only Sony would know and I can't find an official statement from them.

It was well aware to most that CITA mics weren't supported.

Maybe but I can't find a stat sheet or official statement that lays that out. Would just help with problems like this if they had an official spec sheet detailing the supported standards.

Of course the DS4 doesn't restrict non-PS4 mics.

If that was indeed the case, it would take less than 24 hours for Gaf, Twitter etc. to blow up and make Sony apologize.

This is not isolated, and he is correct (he has worded it wrong, because it has nothing to do with who made the headset). I went through this when I purchased a blue controller and 20th anniversary controller. All of sudden the mics on several of our earbuds stopped working. Plug them into launch controller, they work perfect, plug them into new controller no luck at all. It is just Sony changed something in the new controller (the poles from what I understand) that stopped certain mics working.

Also I am confused has hell about people saying the Apple Earbuds never worked. On launched controllers they did, and as someone who has 3 launch PS4s, the Apple earbuds worked perfect (no not the best, but we didn't have feedback or bad static when we talked to each other). Also we have other headphones that no longer work with non-launch controllers.

Edit:
It was well aware to most that CITA mics weren't supported.

So this is the issue? So CITA mics were supported with launch DS4s correct?

I'm able to use other mics, as long as they are the standard config. Apple mic never worked for me, even with launch controller.

Now I see this post from you. I don't doubt you are all, but it blows my mind. Do you think they changed it during certain batches?
