GameTrailers to close after 13 years

Brandon, Brad, and Kyle were all on the twitch chat for a limited amount of time yesterday. The gist of the conversations is that some of the crew will be meeting up in a few weeks, but they are taking some time to think right now.
Brandon also mentioned that he will almost definitely be streaming in the future.

This was the reason I loved GT and why it will be greatly missed. Maybe they were a bit fanboyish at times, but their passion is second to none. They loved games and it came through in everything they did. I hope this isn't the last we see of them in this medium.

Man I was really excited to hear them eventually talk about persona 5, Shenmue 3, last guardian and FFXV. Bummed that I won't be able to watch/ listen to them talk about it together
Wow, just caught up with this disheartening news.
Gametrailers must have been one of the first gaming websites that I started to visit nearly daily back in the day when online video coverage of new games was still something to behold. I must admit that Gaf, Youtube and Giantbomb have taken their place in recent years but I still made a habit of checking their stuff every once in a while. Their GOTY coverage in particular has always been a highlight for me and something I'd look forward to watching.
I'll definitely miss them, Brandon Jones' lovely voice especially.

Everyone of them were fanboys, but each one was passionate in different ways for different genres, which would provide great discussions and debates when someone didn't see eye to eye.

E3 was the first time I got to really know the different crew members since everything was live and they were speaking and acting unfiltered (because of E3 stress).
Like you said there passion came thru and you couldn't help but get wrapped up in it.

Okay. I watched the video you linked. The two people in the video that provided most of what you were baffled by are Michael Pachter and Shane Satterfield. Personally, I am no fan of the latter. I was turned off by him on GT and turned off by him when he started his website SIFTD (he had a weekly YouTube show before SIFTD launched). Pachter has his new show on SIFTD. As for Satterfield, he seems to have strong biases (he was the guy talking about Uncharted 2 in the video). On the aforementioned YouTube show, he accused reviewers that gave Bloodborne high scores as being "irresponsible", claiming that uninformed consumers would see the high score and be duped into buying the game and being frustrated. The version of Gametrailers that just closed down, seemed much more close-knit than it was years ago. They felt more like a family (which is why people want them to stick together and start a Patreon/Kickstarter) instead of something corporate. It was very reminiscent of how Giant Bomb (and even Kinda Funny) is built.
For anyone who might never have been through that kind of corporate layoff (and I'm not saying it happened exactly like that), it is also pretty common to tie a "severance package" to an NDA which can have various degrees of limitations.
If such a thing was offered, and depending on how tight things are for the crew in which case it might represent a few weeks/ months worth of rent, we might never get details about what happened exactly I think.

Anyone doing a GoFundMe memorial fund or anything like that. I know lots of people are talking about Patreon and Kickstarter, But I imagine forming a new business on an entirely new pay model without a lot of capital or any idea about expected revenue could be a pretty daunting task. If people want to put money in the hands of the GT team to allow them to take time and plan something out and see a sample of what the financial potential really is, maybe something like this would be more realistic and appropriate than putting it all on them to "keep themselves together, no matter what." I never really had a chance to support them financially when they were operating. Regardless of where they go now, I would like a chance to rectify this. Plus, I can't stand to see the GT game library sold of for Huber's rent money. IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!

You have to keep in mind that the people who were there when that video was made were almost entirely replaced. Most of, if not all of that group have been gone for at least a year. Some much longer. The past few years have been a different GT than when that video was posted. (some would say better, some would say worse).
What you are doing is like saying, "Did you see what happened with Bush as president in the US? I don't agree with that so no one should visit/ live there today."

Yes, the old GT had some stupid moments (especially when it came to PC gaming), although that was mainly from Shane Satterfield and Pachter (shocking).
Current GT was awesome though.

The thing that sucks about the situation is that if it was just about 1 or 2 people then maybe Patreon could be a realistic option but you take even one of the current super skeleton crew away and some part of the system stops functioning. I'll hope they can do stuff together in the future but I doubt GT will ever be the same.

I will miss this website, the content but MOST OF ALL its crew enormously.. I watched your material on a daily basis (great bathroom-material) and absolutely love(d) it.
Please find another way to continu with this amazing crew and keep producing the shows, like Final Bosman, Huber Hype, Mandatory Update and GT Time (my favorite podcast!!).

I was a bit busy when the news broke out, but I got to say something cause that place was home to some sweet memories.
Years ago, I was an avid poster on GT forums, watched their content and complained about it (although I kinda miss it); their forums was filled with trolls in both the fun and funny kind and the annoying type, but it was for the better since it gave the place a sense of character and kept the place lively with a lot of fun moments.
I love you GAF, but in it's hayday GT had the most fun forum to read and post, and that is without mentioning the factions, private groups where you can meet and chill with people; I remember spending an entire night just chatting about some random shit till the sun came out, good times.
Felt something like this would happen after the site redesign and mass exodus a few years back, so it's no surprise, but I'm still grateful for the good times I had with it.
I know I complained about you GT, but in the end you were a joy for me.
