If they have the ability to speed the game up why don't they just apply a super speed up during those loading pauses before battle starts to make them instantaneous since they didn't want to go too deep into fixing anything within the game. The game can't possibly be loading anything truly substantial that any modern devices would struggle with during these drawn out loadings that existed in the original. At least you can turn off the camera pan which makes the long loading even more puzzling since they had some sort of solution to cut the pan.

So what's SEs track record of actually updating these iOS ports? They shipped it with like 1/2 the controller support (literally only the left half of every controller works)

How are more people not pissed about this?

You can check the apps store page, under the video and screenshots is a section called 'update history' or something like that. Try pressing it and looking, you will see that the FF games mostly get updated regularly.

Some controllers have been reported to work fine. Perhaps it is a bug, perhaps the controller is slightly nonstandard? Surely they can't test every possible configuration, and I'm sure it is inconvenient for you, but it is probably something they will fix in the future. That have a pretty good track record of supporting mfi controllers and adding new features to games.

They recently did a major upgrade for the FFII iOS port from 2010 for example... So they definitely update them.

They do take a while to address certain things though.

More people aren't pissed because the minute you mention you think it could have more effort put in or a cheaper price considering the low effort people act like you should be thankful to even be graced with a port of a decades old game in the first place. I don't know why so many people put up with bullshit from a company releasing shoddy stuff on mobiles all the time either, but it no longer surprises me.

Any iPhone 5 people want to tell how it runs?

Finally got it downloaded. Very interesting port. Very happy with it so far.

I DO feel like the music quality has taken a hit -- but I was playing on phone and bluetooth speakers, so maybe with headphones it is fine.

Also, the touch-screen analog stick is 20830948230482390389320x better than the bullshit stick they put in FFVI Mobile.

They fixed the stick in VI in an update last year!

It sounds pretty good to me through my iPhone 6 Plus speaker. Haven't tried headphones yet, though.

Also: Holy fuck I completely missed the "Skip Battle Camera" option. Total game-changer for the battle load speeds.

It's the Nimbus.. Pretty much the only iOS MFi controller officially supported by Apple (sold at Apple Stores) ..

Ughhhh

All MFI controllers are supported. MFI stands for made for iPhone. A "seal of quality" given by Apple.
The Nimbus, a popular MFi controller, may be supported, but that doesn't mean it works properly. My buttons don't work at all and the d-pad doesn't respond correctly.

For reference, my controller worked perfectly in Horizon Chase before and after I played FFIX.

What does it actually skip? The entire battle?

Told you, it's not perfect, but it's a very good port.

It's waaaaaay better than the crappy FFVII port.

Damn I thought the sale price would have started yesterday but it appears like I was wrong and it was already at the sale price.

I'm assuming this runs pretty well on the 6s+ right?

FF7 just came out a few months ago on mobile, and the team that ported that over from the PC version is different than the FF9 team, which is porting the PSX version to Windows and mobile all at once. So they are probably still working on FF8. I don't see why they would completely skip over it otherwise.

...but I want it now :(

Thanks for the info though! Here's hoping some of the control and visual improvements made here make it over to 8 too.

So I bought this on android for my LG G3 and now I want to buy a gamepad for my phone to use with this game. Anyone know if this MOGA mobile gamepad works? If not, any recommendations?

Auto-save is significantly better than FFVII. I opened it up and it let me continue reload exactly where it closed itself down.

Also for battle speed? Currently it is fine as I am getting to grips with doing it touchscreen.

I do remember that when I played it on the PSone, I used to set it to Active and maximum speed. That might assist.

I don't know if that one works with FF9 or not but I had one of those and it was literally the worst controller I have ever used.

If you like the form factor/portability/etc, the Moga Hero Power is well worth the extra $18. They improved literally everything about it.

Just read that a Dualshock 4 is relatively easy to use with an Android tablet/phone over bluetooth, has anyone tried it?

I turn on the battle 2x speed icon to find that it makes the game go 2x even outside of battle. Are they really gonna make me toggle it on and off after every battle?

Have you guys set your ATB to active or passive?

Passive is the way to go. More time to plan your strategy etc.

Holy fucking shit.

That is a legitimate game-changer. Best version of the game, easily.

Sadly the loading times are horrible if you get into a fight. Like... I don't know 8-9 seconds? I don't remember them being this bad back then (except for the battle animation at the beginning which you can gladly turn off).

I have a Sony Xperia Z5 compact so my smartphone should be strong enough

JBourne

maybe tomorrow it rains
I can't progress past the play. Vivi runs on stage and says "Don't come near me," but then it just doesn't progress. Music is playing and the characters and moving up and down, but nothing ever happens. I loaded up and old save and hit the same bug. I restarted and got the same thing again.

I'm using an HTC One M9. Really wish there was a longer window for refunds.

It was already tested, the loadings are exactly the same as the PSN version of the game. It's 9-10 seconds. Running on a PS1 back in the day was probably even worse, actually.

Yeah, there is no question that this version is on par with the PSX version in all areas, and better in many. Once it's on PC, I feel like that is the definitive version of the game.

The hat's good but the other three lack a thorough understanding of the original icons' shape, perspective and some of the shading. The head's completely round instead of pointed to a chin and the staff looks laid flat rather than propped up against the knife.

What

Douchebag. Yes, me.
My theory is that the PC version is done and ready to go, but is not on Steam because the sale is happening.

Valve actively discourages developers from releasing games during a Steam sale as games released at that time have historically shown lower sales figures.

that puzzling face

This is how it was for VIII Steam and VII PS4. Some people actually want the entire game to go faster.

Considering IX has an issue with sluggish combat though, another third option for high speed battles only would have shown some initiative, I agree.

Skipping the battle camera pan is welcome though. That really, really helps.

Ahhhh that's why.

Forgot about that.

I tried the mobile version, meh, don't like it.

Sure it's good "mobile interface" but I don't want to play a game for 40 hours like that, hell no.

Yeah, I just want high speed BATTLES ONLY. That's kind of a bummer, since it was a main reason I got this version, that it's so inflexible.

Wow really? What is this magic that tells me that it is even slower? lol I played the game on Vita about 2 years ago the last time and I can't remember it being that bad.

Definitly feels longer somehow :0 According to Youtube Videos the loading times vary from 7 - 10 seconds till you see something soo... it's true. Strange. Not that I am complaining though could have been just better :(

Man, what a cool game this is so far. It's my first time playing, someone's gotta be jealous of that.
