Ace Attorney [Mafia] |OT| Turnabout Scum

I think CornB's little 'gotcha' Barrylocke vote, if that's really what it is is a little weird, especially when he gives away the ending so early on, CornBurrito you really could have let that sit for a while and seen if it grew into something.

Otherwise though I'm reading him as town as he seems to be interested in hunting scum, there are a number of players that simply haven't had much to say, we have 3 players who are professing to be very new as I understand it, Bowlie, RedFalco and, Hipster Cthulhu. We've got a number of people I want to hear more from but today was valentines day so I'm going to try to avoid drawing any conclusions but going forward it's something I'm trying to be aware of.

I do think it's interesting that we haven't heard from roy at all since I voted on him, I was hoping to hear something in response.

Eh I hate stretching out gambits. And it wasn't a very serious one anyway.

...what ever happened to that substantial post you teased?

That was Post #343; it's only Day 1, and no one's being a dingus and (fake) revealing a power role, nor do any of us have Power Role-gotten info (I'm assuming). Unfortunately, wondering why Crimson never redacted his vote was all I had to go on.

It's early in the game, so there's nothing to do but overanalyze at the moment. Still, sorry if I mislead you to expect a grand denouement! We'll probably have them soon enough.

Although, wait. If CornB's plan was to attempt a "Gotcha!" on people asking about a vote he casted without a given reason, why is he singling out Sketch? I was confused by the choice, too!

Eh I hate stretching out gambits. And it wasn't a very serious one anyway.

Meh, I also think it should have been stretched out longer to get more potential hits. You gave that "gambit" half an hour of cook time. I call that half-baked.

Anyways, we're 12 hours away from the halfway mark so...

Vote: TheWorthyEdge

Mainly because of this:

Why was Zubz early day 1 vote weird and not Hipster Cthulhu's?

It's not that it is, but I don't understand why you would start a day off immediately voting for people lol. Wait a bit for things to settle, for people to arrive, and then use as much as you have to try and get something going.

I suppose, but as Crimson said, votes are good for discussion and don't mean death so early. Also I still wondered why it was specifically Zubz you questioned when there were at least 2 other votes based on nothing/bullshit.

Any particular reason for that vote, CornBurrito?

I don't have too much to look into, but I'd like to know if there's any reason Crimson's still voting for me. I know that it was initially to put "pressure" on me because it was cast before I posted, but I've checked in since then. If the goal was to get me to post, then it's already been met.

No strong reason. I was going to switch it before I went to sleep, but then you promised a substantial post, so I figured I'd wait for that.

StanleyPalmtree hasn't commented at all aside from that one post... I didn't think much of the post itself, but his continued inactivity despite the suspicion on him is odd.

Between the avatar, the intentional typo, and the use of the word "hell" I think you may actually be scum that is deliberately fucking with town. Knowing that nobody will take an early post like this seriously.

i like coffee,
i like puns,
and apparently i play characters like i play my fiddle: with the best of intentions, but still badly enough to attract a lot of attention.
i can only apologized if my flavor overwhelmed, i guess i should have started with a lighter blend.

oh god, what happened?

our dearest Wendy bit the proverbial bullet. and i for one am sad to see the Oldbag go.

well thats some of the best timing i have ever seen.

as to my absence, i found myself a new job that will be sucking up a lot of my time, so the most i can promise is that i will catch up on the goings on's and chime in around this time everyday.

...forgive me if I'm out of line for asking this, but could one of the Godot avatars maybe change to a different character? Seems like that sort of thing is likely to cause confusion for people. Or at least for one person. One handsome and sophisticated person.

I do think it's interesting that we haven't heard from roy at all since I voted on him, I was hoping to hear something in response.

Not really that interesting, you made that vote on 00.40 AM, and that tanner post I made prior, I made on mobile while laying in bed ready to go to sleep, and quickly checking the thread one last time.

Anyway: I disagree my stance is "pro neutral", I would more classify it as "not anti-neutral by default, lets look at it on a case by case basis". The problem with neutrals is that a day we lynch a neutral, will be a day wasted for scum hunting, since it will be very easy for scum to hide on that day, hell, they don't even have to fake ignorance since they likely know just as little about who the neutral(s) are/is as us. So depending on the neutral, sometimes that will be a necessary evil, and sometimes it is better to let them live.

Thoughts about other people:

CornBro: he has a lot of role speculation, which honestly is pretty useless at this stage of the game IMO. It's all just guesswork which will tell us nothing, and a pretty easy way for a scum to appear active while actually contributing nothing. He does also seem to hunt for scum though, even though I think his quick calling out of ri'on, his argument against stanley his first post, and his Barrylocke vote gamble aren't the strongest arguments.

Xam: mostly joke posts, had to be called out before he started to actually contribute. Says he was busy with travel preparations, but if you can make joke posts, you could also give us a quick opinion about things now and then.

Starsketch: A lot of her posts read very wrong, which gives me scum vibes from her, but that was also the case in Gafia 1 so I guess that is just the way she plays. I doubt a scum would make this many mistakes so early on. Neutral is possible though.

Quantumbro: Pretty much starts the game with "I am probably going to follow the vote of Scrafty. ", which is bad. Sure, I could understand that sentiment if the day is almost over and we don't have any good leads, but to start the day with that? That's not good for discussion. Sure, we could still talk about things, but if we knew we will just follow Scrafty her lead anyway, that discussion will have a lot lower stakes without votes. Not only that, it will make the vote patterns of today completely useless.

Kalor: Hasn't said anything of value at all. He has an open door:

Interesting that we begin with one confirmed townie.
(yet doesn't say what he thinks about this, just that it is interesting)

A vote with 0 reasoning, not even, "its RNG" or something like that:
Here's a vote.

Vote: Hipster Cthulhu

And some mechanical things:

The moderator confirmed it. This isn't rated high enough on the Crab scale for Sorian to lie to us on that point.
The first game also had a no lynch on D1. I think it has only been the two.
Maybe a small midseason game but not in the main season.

He is clearly here, but not giving us his thoughts about things. I want to hear a lot more from him.

VOTE: Kalor

Vote: RobotNinjaHornets

Opening with a joke vote, and then following it up with...nothing.

Eh, it's not like we have anything else to go on now, joke vote is as good as any other vote.

Was mainly just seeing how things fell into place for the first couple of days with the plan to get more involved today since other people are always better at pushing the conversation than me at this point

I have an opinion, Roy
You're a piece of work
...
I think QB was intentionally trying to fuck voting patterns up cause he is scum
Sketch is so-so but leaning Town

Vote: TheWorthyEdge

Mainly because of this:

Interesting. Because I asked why you voted for a particular person. Huh. The other times people said they were going to vote for them because of "shits n giggles" but this was the first one that caught my eye of suspicion.

I've been keeping up with the game but I haven't really had much to say.

Nothing? I would say enough things have happened where you at least can give us your opinion on, even if that is the same opinion as someone else, we would at least know where you stand.

Based off of initial impressions, if I had to pick who got lynched right now it would be QuantumBro, so I'll leave a vote there.

VOTE: QuantumBro

Maybe it is how they play on epicmafia, but personally I don't like it and I think it's the kind of play that scum might would go for (it gives very little for town to analyze following this day). Not the strongest case obviously, but it's stuck with me.

StarSketch's post mentioning her role PM read kind of weird, but other than that I'm not really feeling too suspicious of her at this point. I certainly don't think her reaction to CB's Barrylocke vote is enough to tie the two of them together.

My thoughts on neutrals are that, barring unusual circumstances, they're probably worth lynching. We most likely won't be able to prove their win condition unless they're either dead or victorious, so I'm hesitant to leave them around when our own win condition requires them to go away. I don't mind delaying a neutral lynch if we have a really good case for somebody being scum, but otherwise I would heavily consider it.

Honestly Kalor was extremely quiet in Election too, where he had a double vote town power.

Granted, if town that is still fairly anti-town behavior. So I'm not opposed to a lynch.

Crimson, can I get your thoughts on Roy and Kalor?

Roy has been pretty active, a bit of poking people, QuantumBro and Kalor in particular. Quite a lot of focus on a potential neutral too. Seeing as how our win condition implies the presence of one, and it's day 1 so there's not as much to talk about, I don't really find that to damning. His reads post is fairly agreeable, although aside from the vote on Kalor, there's not too much new insight.

Kalor: Has said pretty much nothing of value, so there's nothing to go off. He hasn't followed up on his vote or gotten any responses from it either.

Interesting. Because I asked why you voted for a particular person. Huh. The other times people said they were going to vote for them because of "shits n giggles" but this was the first one that caught my eye of suspicion.

You were going to be my next vote too, although since Barrylocke beat me too it, I figured it would be more useful to place it on someone new. A lot of your posting has been speculating on fluff, which is completely useless. Aside from that, my vote was about as justified as Kalor's so it did, and still does, seem odd for you to focus on that on in particular.

Plus you never directly responded to me asking you why it was "weird," although you did post an answer to someone else at least.

It actually seems like really awful play. Using that tactic, if a scum player was about to get lynched, since it would only be by one vote, they could shift theirs at the last minute to get a townie lynched instead, and if you have the confirmed townie wait until the last minute, it gives no room for role claims.

Quantumbro, I can understand their reasoning for their idea but I used to play epicmafia so maybe that's why I don't think much of it. I don't think that we should follow his idea but I also don't see the suggestion of it being suspicious.

Stanley's post of "mourning all" reads like it could be a tease of being scum but that might be reading to much into an otherwise innocuous line.

Starsketch appearing to blend in by mentioning their pm is odd but right now I don't see it as being something that we can lynch her for.

I don't like the idea but on day 1 if someone switches their vote under that plan they, and then likely the person they tried to 'save', will just get hammered the next 2 days.

How is commenting on fluff useless?

I'm looking @ the theme of the game and trying to understand what power roles there can be. lol. If you think that's useless, trying to find out power roles, then I suspect you have a power role of your own. Interesting stuff we have here. Trying to find and figure out potential roles has ever been useless, especially on the first day when we don;t have anything to go off of.

Yeah, early role speculation is useless. But that is also the time when it is the most fun for me. I'm not really doing it to be appear active, though that is a side effect of it for sure. I encourage people to look past simple post count though.

Your criticism of the whole Ri'on/Stan/Barry thing is a little odd. It is D1. There have been no flips to really give info. Of course those arguments are going to be weak. D1 is about putting our suspicions out there, and forcing others to put their suspicions out there. That way when flips start happening, we have shit to refer back to.

Unvote

Ok. So Burrito, squidy and Crimson are all at the top of my cool for now list. A decent amount of contribution that seems to actually be attempting to push forward useful conversations, even though it's difficult at this point (ok yeah I'm being a hypocrite shush).

TheWorthyEdge I'm not feeling. A good portion of his posts have been purely speculating on whether or not a character is neutral. Fair enough, it's still day 1, but it comes across a bit as someone trying to post and make it look substantial, when really they're just arguing over bullshit that doesn't matter.

StarSketch - that role post slip seems more like just a slip than a mafia trying to be like "NO LOOK I'M TOWN"

Stanley - Toootally just read his post as him playing Godot. Seems like a mafia (speaking of, what's the flavour name for that?) wouldn't want to give much away by making obviously dark posts like that.

Between the avatar, the intentional typo, and the use of the word "hell" I think you may actually be scum that is deliberately fucking with town. Knowing that nobody will take an early post like this seriously.

What's wrong with using the word hell?

I present to you, post 3 that nobody apperently reads:

Game Specific Rules:

-Current vote count can always be found here

-I will try to post a new vote count in thread near the top of every 100ppp page.

-I allow self voting

-This game uses simple majority. Once 50% of the available votes has been surpassed, the current day phase will end with the lynch of the player holding those votes.

-This game will drop to 72 hour day phases and 48 hour night phases when the player count reaches 10 players or less. This game will drop to 48 hour day phases and 24 hour night phases when the player count reaches 5 players or less.

-Possible roles for this game involve anybody introduced in the original trilogy and the Apollo Justice game.

-Just because I use a character in the flavor does not mean anything about that specific role. Please remember that flavor is just flavor.

Not only that, but understanding which power roles there might be isn't useful for us right now. It may be useful later when someone claims and we need to find out if they are speaking the truth, and it may be useful later when we are trying to make sense of a weird night. But right now, trying to find out power roles is useless, and may even help scum if one of our power roles slips up.

off to a "hell" of a start. In combination with "mourning everyone."

It doesn't evoke town feelings. I get that roleplaying doesn't mean much, since why would scum roleplay as scum. But like....
I guess? I mean saying a hell of a thing is just a standard phrase (see: DK Rap). Whatever, I don't see much point in arguing over this as it's a fairly minor thing, so *shrug*

If he acts weird later, I may rethink my stance on that post.

Also it wasn't even trying to figure out power roles, it was just "This is a character, they might be neutral" which doesn't help. At all.

Fluff speculation can be fun, but it's not really beneficial, especially when it's just discussing which names will be which alignment. The only time I can really see that being relevant would be if we have a role name cop. I won't hold it against anyone for participating, but if you're not giving us anything else, it just looks like you're trying to appear active without really contributing.

Vote: Matt Attack

I was going to complain about the read lists kind of reiterating the same points, but looking through I'm realising that there's so many people who have contributed too little to really form any sort of read. Matt Attack hasn't really been in the spotlight much yet, so he gets my vote.

Read over the thread, don't really see much in terms of scum reads or anything. Nice to see we have a confirmed town. Seems we need a day one lynch.

Vote: StanleyPalmtree

Just added up the numbers for the date and chose the person in that spot.

Something about this vote rubs me the wrong way. RNG voting is fine as an opening play, but a day into the game? You should be able to find a better reason to vote that that, even if it is just poking someone for being inactive.

Not saying that Staley was being active, it's the reasoning that bugs me more than the actual vote.

So no new opinions besides STILL wanting Edge to say why he singled out who he did among other bs early votes, but I just wanna say:

A. I'm possibly drunk
B. I played Avalon just now for the first time.
C. I was evil.
D. I won.
E. I knew who Merlin was.

Its a 3 day game and the vote isn't set in stone. Only thing guaranteed is that there will be a lynch today. Did I miss some development that is leading to someone being scum? Sorry I'm not reading between the lines of the posts some other ppl are seeing. It's not like I came in here at the last minute with a vote.

So....

One way to read this post is a very offended/defensive town player being mad that they were thought of as scum for doing something that isn't inherently scummy.

But this to me reads more like scum getting mad that they were thought to be scum for something that wasn't inherently scummy.

To clarify, nothing is more maddening than being scum and then people thinking you are scum for what you consider to be bad reasons.

Or........

A post made to be purposely defensive to see who would try to jump on it to try to claim it seemed scummy.
