Can someone please tell me how to tame the special animals -- Great Scar Bear, Snowblood Wolf, etc? Pretty sure I've opened up the last mission in the game and I still have no idea.
How the hell do you kill the heavies? Just one of them took out my cave bear AND my saber tooth and took down almost my whole health bar in one hit. Meanwhile, I'm beating him with a fully upgraded two-handed club and it does nothing.
I actually managed to off two of them by hitting them with those berserk shards so they killed each other. Only time I've wished I had the AMR sniper from 3 and 4.
That explains it, thanks. Been ignoring her missions because I figured the Shaman would lead me to more beasts (since he makes you the beast master to begin with). Oh well. The beast hunter girl unlocks them after 1-2 missions.
in my experience, if you have enough distance to the bear, it seem to run away after getting shot with a fire arrow.Ok so...learned this lesson the hard way:
Don't fuck with bears.

Damn, who said that? Couldn't disagree more.Have had a chance to play this for about 5-6 hrs now and...one long side-mission, my ass.

I did see that Jeff from Giant Bomb thinks it's like Blood Dragon but spread thin as a full game. I don't get that impression in the slightest lol

There's been plenty of narrative in the time I've played so far and I really don't see this decreased focus on main quest either. The main story has me drinking bloody concoctions from wolf skulls every so often and chasing after giant fertility goddess statues; it's pretty f*ing memorable.I definitely did. "One big side mission" is exactly how I would describe the game, but I also said that exploration of the world itself here takes center stage over grandiose story missions and that was okay with me.
The decreased focus on main quests is a natural extension of the world taking precedence over the narrative. It's not going to go over well with everyone, as recent Far Cries have been traditionally narrative focused with more memorable and bombastic main story missions.
People still talk about "that Skrillex mission where you burn the weed", but there's nothing like that in Primal. It doesn't go over the top in the same ways, that's what people mean when they say it feels like a bunch of side quests.
Man, I get half way across a narrow stone bridge and then a giant stag comes running over the hill at me. Of course it is being chased by wolf. Of course the wolf is being chased by not one but two brown bears.
Really could have used a parachute about then.
My favorite addition to this game is the ability to remove the looting animation. That 2-3 second animation was the most annoying part of past games.
That was introduced in 4. It is a relatively little known fact, though, as the game makes no mention of the option.

Turn off the looting animations, and you can literally run around the map holding square (or X if you're on the XB1) and loot/scavenge while sprinting. My favorite addition to this game is the ability to remove the looting animation. Is there any rumors/ideas for story DLC for this game? Would be interesting if they pushed the timeline up a little to like pre-egyptian.
I was originally informed this is the full game with no DLC planned whatsoever and no season pass crap.
Whee I found the rare yaks!
Edit: BTW, if you are having trouble finding the white ones, they are up north. There's a bonfire camp you can liberate that's right next to a yak symbol and you can brave the cold to kill yaks and then go back to the camp before you freeze to death.
Is there a trick to theboss fight? Ridiculously tedious.Ull
Yes, you can. One of the trophies in the game is actually tied to killing one of your own animals and skinning it (don't worry, even if you skin one of your animals you can revive it from the menu). Can you damage your animal companion? I am pretty sure I put a couple arrows into my white wolf when I am trying to hit the enemy he is attacking but not sure if he lost health because of that or because the enemy hit him.
