Sony is going to announce the PS5? Really? It's less than 3 years into the PS4 lifespan which has been selling like hotcakes. So uhh...

Gen 7 was the exception to the rule. It was overly long for many reasons. Typically a console cycle is around 5-6 years. Based on whichever company decides to launch first. There is also an expectation that new consoles are teased 2 years in advance. So I think my timeline holds up. Especially with the extra power required to run VR. In this timeline the PS4 would have a 5 typical year life span plus an extra year or two of support.

I'm mostly excited about NX and seeing more Zelda footage. Don't know what other Nintendo games to expect though.

Sony
- JRPG goodness
- Horizon footage!
- Boring VR crap (mostly because it's boring to watch it without experiencing it)
- CRASH BANDICOOT REVIVAL

MS
- Forza Horizon 3 footage
- Gears of War 4. I'm really excited about this one because even though it's their first Gears game, the Coalition have been very receptive to fan feedback in regards to multiplayer. I also like the atmosphere of the campaign, and hope to see more of that too.
- Sea of Thieves. I'm also really excited about this because it's Rare making a non-Kinect game, and I love "shared-world" games like Destiny/Division
- TALES OF VESPERIA B/C PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Personally E3 is going to start two days early for me at least. Mainly because of Bethesda, Microsoft, Sony, etc.

I'm going to get into E3 2016 with no expectation for anything because I would like to be surprised by anything at the show. Actually, I'm going to expect the worst for Smash NX Port (ex: no new contents, etc.)

"Our less than three year old platform is killing it! Let's suck all the oxygen out of the room and announce something completely new!"

Not happening.

Nintendo is going to win E3 in a landslide. But it will be exciting all around.

First it will be announced that the NX is A new portable console, with PS4 level power that can leverage it better due to the Vulcan API. It will be launching 2016. All their A Team first party studios have new games ready to go, with most having cross gen ports. That's going to be huge. Then they are going to show the NX home console (due 2017) which will be pushing close to 6Tflps. Then Nintendo will show off its daisy chaining technology and how using a scaleable OS plus multiple devices will allow a 4 player local multiplayer game to be pushing close to 20TFLPs through a normal TV.

Combine that with complete third party support. (All the Japanese developers will be on board, Ubisoft will be there at the start, and if Nintendo gets EA on board (any console will be DOA without FIFA in Europe and Madden in the U.S.) and Gen 9 is starting in 2016.

I'd Expect Sony to Push VR hard. Show it as a completely new experience. Show a few new first party games. show lots of Horizon footage, and push Ps+ hard. Then End the Show announcing the PS5 is coming 2018. With full digital backwards compatibility to the ps4. With the goal being to get PlayStation owners to skip nintendos new console for VR and then buy sonys comparable release in 2018. (Which would give the ps4 a 4 year life cycle) The shared software base will also help the ps4 get additional cross gen support when the ps5 launches.

Microsoft will also be looking to launch new hardware. In practise it will be an Xbox 1+ and it will launch with a high price point. (600usd) to appropriately leverage High level PC settings. It will be marketed at rich people who want PC level graphics with the simplicity of a plug and play console. It will be sold as a limited edition device and have a small manufacturing run. If Microsoft are really smart they will make sure it can run Star Citizen. To give it a graphical showcase. If it does well I'd expect an xbox 1++ in 2017 and the Xbox 2 in 2018. Giving the one a 4 year life cycle. I'd also expect Microsoft to double down on great exclusives since they are hoping to get PC gamers to pay for Xbox Live

This is the funniest thing I've read on gaming side.

It's not going to happen this early, your timeline does not add up, they won't be announcing ps5 just 2.5 years into the gen.

100 days out? lol, that's literally a third of the year. It amazes me how we always get ahead of ourselves with E3. Ah well, suppose it's fine. My predictions...

Bethesda: They're back again, which is surprising considering so much was made of their studio being "tiny" compared to other AAA publishers. I'm guessing they've got Dishonored 2 and DOOM. If they have another project, it can't be Elder Scrolls VI since that's probably two years off and going off what they said not long ago, the announcement from reveal to release would be even less than Fallout 4--that was basically within five months, so I'm guessing three or less. IOW, either it'd be a September release or they aren't announcing anything new.

Microsoft: Consistently Microsoft has provided a decent conference every year since they announced the XB1. I don't expect any exceptions this year. DLC announcement for Quantum Break, updates on all the stuff we saw last year that hasn't come out yet, and maybe one or two surprises? To be honest, they showed off so much last year that I don't think we've seen yet that they could do an entire conference just updating us on that. I'm betting Crackdown, Scalebound, and Gears get spotlight tho. They might cut off one and place it with ReCore for Gamescom.

Nintendo: ....It's N-X time, right? Nintendo has done literally everything they can to put this off, including announcing a new generation of Pokemon and telling us about "Wii U and 3DS releases from April to July". They've even allowed some of that stuff to leak beforehand, presumably to keep from revealing anything N-X related. This has gotta be go time.

So...what is it? Who knows other than the folks at the big N? Pie in the sky, it's a portable/console combo. They'll take a hit on profit and launch it for $400, but they'll also do the impossible and create a system with an actually decent launch line-up and launch window games. (Notice I said pie in the sky. More likely they're two different systems that benefit from one another if you have both.) Mario, Metroid, Pokemon, Donkey Kong, ports for the trinity of high-selling games they released for the Wii U, whatever. Full-on fanboy mode, they've made whatever apologies necessary and secured all of the third party support for when this thing inevitably launches later this year.

Ubisoft: It's really not E3 if I don't see Aisha Tyler at this point. She's just so cool and relaxed, at least when she's not forced to interact with the crowd. *_* Sorry, got starry-eyed for a second there. Anyway, since there's no Assassin's Creed this year I'm betting they lead off with Watch_Dogs 2. I quite enjoyed WD1 and they've had plenty of opportunity to listen to what fans wanted, so if this one isn't a MUCH better game then something's gone wrong. Better driving, a more technologically-advanced city, and a more interesting character would go miles towards fixing the problems of the first.

Other than that, expect five minutes to be wasted where they tell us "Guys we raked in SO MUCH MONEY off The Division" and then proceed to inform us of more of their DLC plans for what by then will be one of the best selling new IPs of all time. Then some kind of announcement for Just Dance with a music performance that I'm sure is nifty for people there but utterly boring for those of us at home.

After that, an update on For Honor and maaaybe a release date on Ghost Recon presuming it's not the latest "introduce at E3, take three years to bring it out" game. And I bet, somehow, Far Cry 5 gets announced either here or at Gamescom. Just a feeling, lol.

EA: LOL fuck these guys. Two years ago they spent 35 minutes putting concept art on a projector and called it a conference. Last year they got Pele up there and spoke to him for 15+ minutes and legit put me to sleep. (It was a great idea that they put in the worst possible place.) Here's where they'll tell you Mass Effect: Andromeda is coming out early next year, we'll finally get to see Criterion's "Beyond Cars" thing in depth, and I think its time for a new UFC game if I'm not mistaken. They'll also sneak in Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 5, which I think are both going to hit this year...because of some reason. >_< The cool stuff (the non-first person Respawn project, Visceral's Star Wars thing, and whatever else BioWare has up its sleeves) I'm guessing won't be talked about because most of their biggest projects are actually hitting within six months to a year of the conference.

Sony: Oh man, these guys are so fucking fucked. They turned E3 2015 into legend and there's literally NO WAY they can top it save a show that back to back intro's Rockstar's Agent, S-E's Chrono Break, and the return of Crash Bandicoot. The sad thing is, I'm willing to bet a number of fans will call this year's E3 better because we'll get info on games that are actually coming out in the next year. They'll be ready to be honest about Horizon being an early 2017 game by then, TLG will get a proper release date, and I'm sure Sucker Punch will be ready to show off inFamous 4/New IP by then. Also we'll probably get the Destiny announcement here along with map pack info for the next CoD. Sorry about that guys.

It'd be cool if we finally found out about those two Warner Bros. games here though. We know WB Montreal was probably doing Suicide Squad, but are they also doing a Superman/Justice League project? I really, really hope so because I don't give a fuck about the Squad lol.

Also, there's Ni-Oh, Ni no Kuni 2, and a whole bunch of other stuff that will probably get sidelined for Gamescom/Paris/PSX/Game Grammys.

Oh, and I forgot: In place of a PS4 "slim" we'll probably get an official release date for the PSVR project along with pricing and maybe a launch line-up. Actually, there's a good chance that if you're not all in on VR, this show might be slightly disappointing. We'll see though.

Y'know who REALLY needs to make a return:

S-E: Last year their conference had me on the edge of my seat. They have so much stuff in the works that there was no way they could get through it all, and they'd be completely justified coming back here again. There's Rise of the Tomb Raider for PS4, more Hitman junk and Deus Ex again...but there's also:

- Final Fantasy XV
- World of Final Fantasy
- Star Ocean V
- Project Setsuna
- Dragon Quest XI

And that's before you get to all the rumored stuff like Front Mission and Final Fantasy XII HD, stuff we shouldn't hear about like Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy VII:R, or any potential new IPs. Once again Square could literally have the best conference if they chose.

if you believe this to be true...this would be the worst console generation ever. Due to longer dev times there isn't the library to justify the PS4/ Xbox One.

I'd bet that this is going to be the longest generation yet, mostly due to dev times and the cost to develop new hardware not getting cheap enough, fast enough.

VR, NX and the usual round of console warrior bullshit scattered among the good posts.

Oh and the usual reality of e3 not living up to the hype and most the big news spoiled by leaks.

Fuck I'm cynical tonight.

Holy Jesus, what the fuck is that?

I think it's part of the strange fantasy that a Nintendo machine might look like something Samsung would make and not like something that was designed to be as cheap as possible and withstand the abuse of 6 year old children

We can expect it to be NOT as good as last year.

Real talk, I have no clue beyond the NX if Nintendo shows. Have they confirmed a stage presence?

Maybe a price for PSVR.

I expect it to be better, as only Sony was good last year. Real good. Square-Enix was pretty good as well, but I'm not sure they'll have a media briefing this year.

Bethesda
Boring last year, because of all that Fallout. Should be better this year with Dishonored 2 gameplay and reveals of the new games from Tango and MachineGames.

Microsoft
Most of their good stuff was at Gamescom last year. Expecting: a better Gears demo, Scalebound, Recore gameplay and new footage from Inside and Cuphead.

EA
Decent last year with Battlefront, Andromeda set to Johnny Cash and Mirror's Edge 2. Shame about the tedious sports stuff. Expecting: tedious sports stuff, Titanfall 2, Battlefield 5 reveal, Andromeda blow-out.

Ubisoft
Always decent, but last year was far from spectacular. For Honor was a really good reveal though.
Expecting: more For Honor and Ghost Recon: Wildlands, more Division DLC, new Blood Dragon, Watch_Dogs 2 as the closer, AC movie trailer.

Sony
Will be great again, just less megatons and the same boring third-party segment that will slow the whole thing down. Also: VR.
Expecting: new Horizon demo to show you can ride certain machines, Last Guardian trailer and release date, Sony Bend game reveal, God of War in new mythology.

Nintendo
Terrible last year. Time for NX. Zelda blow-out, new 3D Mario, look at new Retro game. Beyond Good and Evil 2 if the rumors are right.

Other stuff:
Resident Evil 7 announced
New Cyberpunk 2077 trailer
New Nier: Automata trailer
Suicide Squad game reveal
New Red Dead lives

I don't doubt that. Another 7-8 hear cycle wouldn't be too bad imo, I'm pretty happy with my ps4 and wouldn't mind getting an NX console if it's good.
handheld already mentally pre ordered.

I have pretty low expectations for the NX reveal with how terrible the Wii U one was (the best demo wasn't even at their press conference). Will probably get PSVR at launch unless Sony's botches it at E3. Microsoft I don't have a lot of interest in, especially since Windows 10 is shit. I'll post deeper thoughts on the rest of my predictions later.

They'd use a VR headset to watch the press conference that they're at in person?

For Gameplay demos mainly.

Sony execs trying to act humbled by the continued support fans give them

They might even say it so show just how humbled they are

I'm expecting EA to announce a new entry of SSX of FIFA Street and I have no evidence to support that other than the fact that's been 4 years since the past entries.

Honestly, that would make me a lot happy. I'm excited for whatever the NX is and looking forward to it.

And as the owner of a PS4 which is my only current generation console, I hope Sony has a better show this year. Not including No man's sky and Horizon New Dawn, last year's show was not exciting at all.

Awkward silences and executive clapping.

Would like to see what Recore is all about.

I think Sony and Microsoft will show slim consoles.

EA and NX sitting in a tree.

Lastgen was longer than normal but prior to that the norm has been 7 years.

Don't expect an announcement for at least another 3 years.

The PS4 and Xb1 were both announced and released in less than a year. So no, there is no "2 year expectation".

They're not gonna announce a new system while ps4 is on fire.

You're on drugs if you seriously think PS5 will be announced while PS4 is flying and nowhere near having peaked.

The only one I actively look forward to seeing what they've got is Nintendo because they're always the ones with the biggest surprises (both good and bad), but I always love the other conferences too. I'm a new PS4 owner so I want to see some more of the good stuff they've got to offer.

I expect this year, and every E3 from here on will pale in comparison to 2015 E3. We had no less than 3 teratons and a lot of gigatons (Fallout 4 in 2015? that counted as a gigaton I think).

NX will be good to see no matter how that pans out, but I don't expect a ton of amazing announcements. What's even left? Half Life 3? Still not as big as the collective impact of 2015 E3.

I mean if they announce Half Life 3 and it's not Vive only AND Jumping Flash for PS4/PSVR then I may have to relent my point.

The PS4 and XBox 1 launched in a direct response to the Wii U and general console apathy, using bargain basement midrange PC componants from 2012. ( Wii u was using 2010 tech hoping to just keep pace with the other consoles) The PS360 generation was supposed to last 10 years until 2016. That has pretty much held true, with the PS3 and 360 only now getting passed over by games like COD ect. Epic even had to cut content from unreal engine 4 because the consoles couldn't run it.

demanding games like Just Cause 3 barely run on PS4 and that aesthetically is the expected standard for graphics now. With the extra power required to run VR (90FPS seems to be the required benchmark to stop people feeling sick. PSVR is aiming to cheat it by using repeat frames so 2x60fps runs at 120FPS to ensure a good experience)

With AMDs Polaris and Zen architecture expecting big performance jumps on 7nm processes and Intel/nivada surely set to follow. new Consoles are due and soon. In my opinion

I did mention Horizon. Uncharted demo was good, but we knew that was coming.

A remake of a game that I haven't played and that it's probably a 2018 release at the earliest doesn't excite me.
It's hard to get excited about a game that was supposed to come 5 years ago.
And Shenmue III being announced as a crowfunded game was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen.

And they spoiled me the fucking beginning for Arkham Knight. I tell ya, one of Sony's worst shows.
