Gotta love Trump. Not sure why he would want to walk into a setup like that again. Who is even going to watch this without trump there?

If he weren't being so aggressive toward Trump right now, I'd say he was angling for that VP spot.

The funniest outcome would be if Cruz showed up as a statement and they tore into him for two hours with the chart and video clip schtick.

he's doing this because Cruz and Kasich will easily be able to team up and grill him on his policies now. the last debate set the precedent for serious debates, he can only be hurt by debates at this point. its a good tactical move even if it makes him look bad, there are a lot of people that this will somehow resonate with though.

Has there ever been a republican/democrat debate during the primaries before? If not officially "sanctioned", at least something two or more candidates decide to do on their own? Would that even be allowed?

I'm sure he's got one waiting in the wings for Kasich, but he's just waiting for Kasich to attack him so he can deploy it on the counter-punch.

I think it is a smart move. With Rubio gone Trump would not be able to ensure that he could rile up someone and have the audience go "That's the Donald at it again."

It's kind of pointless. It would be liberals vs. conservatives, which serves no purpose during primaries. It'd be more like a tag-team event than an individual presentation of each other's platforms, and they need to funnel down to two individual candidates.

Man, I guess Trump figured that they were going to prop up Cruz during the debate anyway, so I can understand his ditching. Kasich, however, probably could've afforded to get his voice out more. Not sure why he's ducking.

I bet Fox is salty as fuck that their debate is all but canceled at this point.

He doesn't give a shit about doing anything that isn't motivated by his obsession with his brand and image. I wonder what portion of his responsibilities he'd skip out on as President, seeing as there's no glory in a lot of that work.

Kasich's whole routine is to come in after a fight and say "golly gee, fellas, is this really what we're all about? Don't you think America deserves more than this?" Cruz may be off-putting, but he is an excellent debater. If there were an actual substantive one on one debate, Cruz would win going away.

Maybe if was in other network Trump would consider another debate, but Megyn Kelly clearly has a personal agenda against him. No way she is just playing journalism.

Are you kidding? We know all his policies. Nobody can name any from any other candidate except Cruz' flat tax. Build the wall, ban muslins, reduce the trade deficit with Mexico, China, Japan, possibly through tariffs if they don't let their currencies float, take part in the Israel/Palestine negotiations on a neutral basis, improve relations with Russia, create safe zones for refugees in the ME so they can eventually go back home, etc.

And remove the lines around the state to increase competition in the health care sector! The lines! /hand motion

Trump's policies might be simplistic/dumb but we've been hearing nothing but what he plans to do. The other candidates is a complete blur in everyone's minds, a void really.

It really is enough with the debates, they had their time to make their case but it's been all about Trump.

GOP shot themselves in the foot and now they're whining.

Cruz gets carried away on the smell of his own farts tonsil stones and has wasted most of these debates trying to outflank Trump. He can recite a list of liberal transgressions but has been strategically flummoxed by Trump's mondo debate style.

I still want more on Trump University tbh. It's my #1 issue and wasn't covered enough last debate.

We know Megyn Kelly's stance on the issue, but what about Bret Baier? Every moderator needs equal time to properly argue their policy on Trump University.

Context, people. The last debate was set up as a hit job on Trump. Debates aren't supposed to be full-on cross examinations of one candidate by the moderator, at least as far as I'm concerned. I don't blame him for saying enough with them. I'm not even supporting Trump here, I'm just saying I don't blame the guy for not deciding to get into a situation like that.

Last time all they did was attack him for 2 hours, so why would he bother. And there has been an absurd amount of republican debates.

So it will just be Cruz and Kasich, the two 'losers' currently duking it out? LOL! Viewership will be WAY down.

Which is fair for that previous debate, but creates a complete piling-on situation when you only apply it to one out of four in the next debate. Why did the tough questions end after that one debate for everyone else? Context matters, and you can't say "well you missed the tough debate so we'll grill you and you alone during this current puppydog debate." Making up for lost attack time isn't legitimate in a situation like this, and the optics of one candidate alone getting thrashed by the moderators and the rest of the candidates sitting there smirking more than makes up for him skipping tough questions in the previous debate. Either question everyone in that tough manner every time, or don't.

What we have is Fox News fucking up and creating a situation where Trump has no incentive to join their debate, and thus it is now likely to be cancelled and they will lose their ~20 million person audience Monday night.
