[Destructoid] Leaked photo of NX controller?

Fake as hell. Looks like someone just cobbled together a mockup based off of the patent drawings, which makes no sense as the patent drawings are crude symbolic drawing not actual illustration of a product.

Also looks terrible. If I'm wrong and this is the real controller, this might be the first Nintendo system I skip.

That was a prototype, so the picture in Destructoid could be a prototype as well

i have never seen this one. when was the first "leak" of this picture?

i heard about dual screens being a thing for the wii u back then, but i didnt believe it.

this prototype is pretty much close to what eventually got realized.

You want a shot at the champ? [NG gif winner July 23]
that looks like a camera on the bottom or is it?

I really have a hard time believing that Nintendo would file a patent for a controller and then make the controller look exactly like the diagram.

But in a world where Donald Trump can be a candidate for President of the United States any (horrible) thing is possible.

The odd analog sticks actually give this 'leak' some credibility to me. The first renders of The WiiU's GamePad looked like this. Legit analog sticks seem to come last pretty often

The GamePad was supposed to ship with those sticks though. Nintendo changed them pretty late due to fan (and almost certainly developer) feedback.

I actually kinda like it. Something new at least, got PS4/XB1 for standard controllers. Want Nintendo to go wild (but functional). It depends on what can be done with the controller, might also double as a portable system right, so touch screen all,in middle, with analog thumbsticks, so not a bad concept. Needs cleaning mostly if real.

So, the guy who leaked it
if it's real
said he might show more tomorrow.I guess if he does it could be real.

I'm not arguing whether this is real or not, but I find it surprising how there can be so many negative comments about it when no one even used it yet. Then again, lots of people call the Wii U gamepad bad too, when I personally love it.

There's a lot of reasons for the negativity here, including:

(1) It seems like an extension of the gamepad "two screens" idea, which flopped last time.
(2) Some people really, really just want Nintendo to make a traditional controller.
(3) It looks like it might not be comfortable.
(4) It doesn't have physical buttons (refer to no. 3).

I can believe this is real and am open to being good, but Nintendo's going to have their work cut out for them explaining why.

iirc was never leaked, I think it was part of an Iwata Asks or similar feature.

So this has the same problem as the MotoWatch? it cant actually go fully edge to edge due to the need of housing screen compartments, so Nintendo decided to use that space for the camera and microphone I guess.

The "leaker" is commenting there a bit. Says he "may" make a video tomorrow.

I wouldn't be surprised if nothing comes from that, particularly with some sort of excuse about NDAs or what have you. Still, I wonder what'll happen there.

Aaaaanyway, we'll know for sure if Nintendo takes it down. :D I don't think it's real. From the source to the patent replication to the...look of it, nah. Could be wrong, of course.

I really doubt it's real, but even if it was, are people really expecting that it's the final design of the units that will ship with the consoles?

Lmao

EDIT: it's even in the article
It is important to note that if this is development hardware, it may vary from the retail version of the controller. There may still be time to remove what appears to be touch screen buttons on this design.

Unreleased product don't usually look like their patents, so I have a hard time believing this is real.

Guys, please... I know some of you think Nintendo does stupid things, but this clearly isn't Nintendo Stupid: it's just Plain Old Stupid.

That was never leaked. It was from an Iwata Asks.

The image was of a hasty proof-of-concept hackjob that would have never, ever seen the light of day beyond Nintendo's hardware engineers and upper management positions. So in no way does it lend any credence here, because it's not even kind of comparable. Bringing it up doesn't even make sense.

I remember when people were saying the Wii stuff was fake. I wouldn't be surprised if it's real. Only Nintendo is crazy enough to do something like this.

I don't see why Nintendo would think the free-form display (at least in the picture/patent configuration) is something adequate.
You'd be covering part of the screen with your hands, so it would be a waste...

It truly is fucking pathetic how close minded people are when something that's even a tiny bit different (it's literally a more round Vita, shapewise) comes along.

I don't know I feel like it's easier to mock things up especially since 3D printers are accessible to the public.

It may be fake but very interested on how it functions.

What bothers me is how there aren't any handles like the patent image.

Did Nintendo just roll them underneath like the Vita, or?

That's uh... Something alright...

But for some reason there's part of me that thinks it'll be at least similar to that.

nortonff

Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.
lol that can't be real
please don't be real

It doesn't. And where do you get a screen that shape?

There are plenty of ways to make something that's not a screen look like a screen via photoediting (or even without). I know the writer shows that they ran the image through that test, but I'm pretty sure that's not 100% foolproof.

I'm not gonna say with total confidence that I think it's fake just because you never know with Nintendo. But I'm pretty skeptical.

Been said a million times, but feels exceedingly fake with how dead on it is to the patent. If you're making the effort at least take some creative liberty, tsk.

That's dumb but this is my favorite thing about not knowing all (or in this case, any) specifics of a console.

Truly. The speculative craziness leading into E3 is the best;
