Sea of Thieves (XB1/PC) Gameplay Reveal - Xbox E3 2016

Plinko

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
Anyone else think it looked a little ... empty. The environments, boats had like nothing to them. Lots of wasted spaces.

Agreed. I was really disappointed after last year's reveal.

Really interested in how they flesh out the whole experience. One thing I do know is that me and my friends are going to be the worst pirates ever, constantly getting sunk and losing all our treasure.

If you're constantly being sunk then you might be the first ones to find undersea ruins or old shipwrecks. Think positive!

Still don't like it. Hope Rare don't close after no one buys this.

Sorry for the doom and gloom talk but I got a bad feeling about this.

For anyone curious here are my impressions:

The game is so much freaking fun and it really does look that good! Dem waves!

If you have any questions feel free to ask. I'll try to answer at some point. Pretty busy at E3 right now :)

Any idea on how big the world is?
Character customization?
Are the ship crews, IE player limit, just 3 or can you have more?

Sorry i haven't seen much on the game since it's reveal so I don't know if there are answers already for these. lol

I'm glad that Rare showed more of this game and it did look pretty cool. But where was Battletoads? Where was the new rumored Rare IP? Where was anything else? I'm disappointed that SoT was the only thing Rare had to show.

I was so sure that Battletoads was going to appear based on all the hints we've been given towards a new one over the past couple years. But just like last year, it's nowhere to be seen.

This is the type of game that will be huge on PC and die off on consoles lol. Too bad it is a Win10 store exclusive, but I might bight the bullet and pick it up anyway if my friends do.

I like the concept but I want to know if there is a way to play it by yourself and like hire crew for your ship.

This would actually be pretty bad ass, but I think/hope enough people on gaf will be interested in getting it on pc and one that it won't be a problem.

Forgive me watching linked hands on video now, but does anybody know if it has any personal combat/non ship combat? The ship stuff looks fun, but hoping for the full on pirate experience.

Looking forward to trying it, but I really hope this is a conservative budget game that doesn't sell at $60, because I just don't see it being a big success at that level.

It looks really neat, but almost "too sim"....

My point is, how am I expected to be able to log into this for perhaps 10 minutes at a time and still do anything productive?

The activities shown here are really cool and provide a sim of operating a ship, but it would require highly coordinated play of a group of players and a chunk of dedicated time...

- Will I be able to match-make for a sea voyage?
- Will I be able to match-make for a sea battle?

Perhaps there are other activities that would be accessible to me, but what is shown here looks to be the equivalent of a Raid activity in Destiny.

The first trailer heavily implied sword combat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gC7UzEouNXg

I know it's a minor gripe, but big open exploration games like this can always benefit from a third-person camera perspective, especially coming from Rare who are no strangers to third-person adventure games.

I liked it!

The idea that sailing is a genuinely cooperative venture is really compelling, and makes for a much more interesting experience when you have to get your whole team together to actually work their roles to succeed.

...And then you start losing a battle -- can the crew keep together and follow their roles? Who will abandon ship and doom everyone?

If there's enough depth and variety here, it could be something pretty special.

YEah, that chatter is pretty close to what ive experienced when the group is excited. Your in the moment and say stupid things, who cares.

I really like the look of this, love the pirate setting it's probably my favourite, but if it's reliant on being part of a multiplayer crew then I'm never going to get anything out of this game.
