There will be no pre-release review copies of No Man's Sky prior to launch

Not a good sign and the spoiler excuse doesn't hold up. Does it have to do with discovering planets/species and naming them online? Even then it's not like everyone needs to be online at once for reviewers to properly experience it and the game is so big it's not like reviewers will end up naming everything before launch. Odd situation.

Sometimes it can I guess. DOOM did this.

I still don't know the justification for it. Spoilers seems kinda laughable tbh.
DOOM was due to a feature not being live ahead of launch.

ABZU is just as much an experience as NMS, but review code went out early. Spoilers in a game of the scope of NMS seems like a random and poor reason as they could draft a strict NDA. UC4 specifically noted that content like CB being playable couldn't be mentioned. Same rules could apply to NMS.

It has nothing to do with spoilers and everything to do with the buggy state the game is in. I guarantee this game has a day one patch that is basically mandatory given some of the problems seen with the people who have it early.

This is going to be a very short meh game with a gimmick "ending". No review copies says as much. Can't fell too sorry for the dev for letting hype get out of hand. But the community really took this game and ran.

Looks like this game is gonna flop. The only review that I know is going to be done is the leakers review then.

Well, it doesn't end poorly 100% of the time. Didn't DOOM not get early copies?

But I agree it's more often than not a bad sign.

Yes but they received them on launch Hello Games is just not giving them out period.

Yeah, I dunno man. I was kinda looking forward to this but the streams so far have been a mixed bag so I'm glad I decided against preordering at least.

No, not really. It's almost always a red flag,

Destiny, Division, plenty of multiplayer-online focused games do this.

And yes it's being described as a single-player experience but it still shares a heavy online component.

I'm still baffled this game gets as much attention as it does.

It's not that it doesn't look good, but the type of game it is usually gets very little attention by the "traditional" gaming press and the whole review craze.

irrespective of whether the game is good or bad, or whether it shows confidence in the product, or whether it's for spoilers, limiting the amount of information that consumers have about the quality of a product prior to their being able to buy it is never a good thing

lol jk, this has me worried. Will wait for reviews just in case.

Even better than this though will be the "journalists" so thorough with their journalistic integrity, that they rush through the game to get the review out first, missing some fairly important points along the way

This thread is already a trainwreck ._.

Cant wait for the review thread. Thats gonna be a disaster

40% people who had reasonable expectations and are fine with how the game turned out.

25% people who expected something that was never promised and are extremely disappointed.

20% vultures looking for tears to drink and wounds to salt.

15% people who still can't understand what the fucking game actually is.

I need other people's opinions in aggregate before I can comfortably decide what my own opinion will be on any given game.
That's weird that you need that, but I guess there's a lot of people out there like you.

I prefer to read in depth about game mechanics, performance, content, etc before I decide to invest my money and time.

I'm surprised people expected otherwise. I'm not particularly interested in NMS, but from what I understand, it's a game build largely around discovering new things and sharing your experiences with the world. I think it's this kind of game that while not multiplayer in a traditional sense has this certain social aspect to it that is hard to duplicate with only a limited userbase.

Destiny and The Division are terrible games btw

I think the respective fan bases will have something to say about that.

And having no review prior to launch isn't indicative of anything.

Doom was just fine (and despite being due to a technical issue, you were quick to jump on it and doom - ahah - it a failure).

So yeah, opinions and such.

It's weird that spoilers is their reason. If the game is as buggy as some impressions have said then they might have wanted to wait until the day 1 patch was out before having people play it. Though I don't see this as being a mark on the quality of the game as plenty of games have had no review copies sent out and turn out fine.

According to Opencritic, several major publications have reported to them that they won't be receiving No Man's Sky review copies prior to launch.

For a game like this I can understand why as they're making people avoid as many spoilers as possible. Sadly there's no reason as to why they aren't handing out review copies but it's safe to assume it's because of spoilers which are out there already.

Remind me if this is old

That might work for a story driven game, but something that is largely almost entirely procedurally generated? That seems like a silly reason.

Its a damn shame how people get so geeked for a game coming to they console they blow the expectations out of porportion. I knew it would end well ever since sony endorsed it or whatever. People should just like the game for what it is, not the hype.

They should've been sent out a week ago so we'd know the game would review well like Quantum Break. Guess this will be shit, just like DOOM.

The multiplayer aspect is supposed to be a core aspect of the game, no?

I would imagine that's why they're not giving pre-release copies to reviewers, cause didn't they talk about how players could "discover" planets and places and be mentioned as the discoverer. I feel Reviewers would have an unfair advantage in getting themselves tagged on stuff.

Not sure I understand what the fear of spoilers might be, unless the game has some heavier plot element that was previously unmentioned?

Also, since people keep bringing it up - I'm pretty sure review copies of DOOM did not go out because of the reception to that MP beta first and foremost, which honestly was Bethesda's fault for not just having a 1-level demo and then doing it and trying to gain fanfare after the fact.

Spoilers for what exactly? It's not like there's some riveting narrative to the game, at least that I'm aware of.

This game gets so much grief its ridiculous.

I'm looking forward to it and found personally Elite to be very boring as someone who only likes single player games.

I am looking forward to Everspace also.

People sure are quick to wanting to hate on this game, huh? It's a lame excuse but it doesn't really mean much. There are games that wind up being good despite not having early reviews.

That said, I still think this game is a different genre than maybe most were hoping, so of course the people who don't like the survival genre won't like this, even if it's survival in infinite space.

This is what I think as well.

I need other people's opinions in aggregate before I can comfortably decide what my own opinion will be on any given game.

I wish to obtain as much information as possible to make an informed decision on my purchase, rather than rely on carefully curated marketing materials from the studio and the publisher.

And so as I pray, unlimited bait works.
