Gameblog.fr: PS4 Neo to be announced on September 7 in New York

Many rumors were saying Dev kits were already out. If so, how much different can we expect these "finalized" kits to be from those already in hand?

Dunno. I doubt they got it to 6tf. I could see Sony maybe squeezing out high 4's, maybe just barely 5.

Native resolution is the resolution you're rendering your game to. Anything else is non native. Whenever it is an effective way or not to upscale your picture.
Checkered rendering is not upscaling though. They are essentially rendering in 1080p, in a roundabout way. You can't tell me that any upscaled 540 could ever look like this:

Screen is from PS4 version, and I've intentionally picked the one with the most sub-pixel detail I could find where the resolution problems would appear the most visible. 540p uspcaled would look like a muddy pixel soup.

Also, what of the games that use dynamic resolutions? Other than telling you what's the maximum and minimum buffer in that case, there's little information that can be inferred from that, outside of careful scene by scene analysis.

Dev kits go through spec revisions all the time. So yes, they had kits out, but they were not 'finalized' hardware.

So maybe there was some tweaks, who knows. We will find out soon enough.

This is exciting. I'm ok with original rumored specs but if they are going for higher specs then bring it on. Neo is the only option to play PS4 first party titles at higher performance/resolution

I'm not interested in the hardware, but I hope we get some software reveals/news on the side. Since they're skipping Gamescom again (in terms of conferences), this event could serve as a replacement.
I am interested in hearing about the hardware but I'm with you on wanting software reveals/news at this. Hopefully we get our next look at God of War, Spider-Man and others at this.

The chipset and silicon was finalized long before the final dev kit being completed. They can't just "upgrade" the GPU to 5 or 6tflops in response to Scorpio. If the plan had been 4Tflops, that will remain the case.

I know it's not basic upscaling. But it's not native res. Point. There's a reason why we have this "1080pr" expression. Because it's not really 1080p. Whatever technique you use, or dynamic res, native means native.

We don't want no 4k30 games. Make it run everything at 1080p60 and 4K output for bluray/netflix, call it ps4k and it will dominate the console market until next gen.

Lol here we go.

It won't play games at native 4K without the upscaling/diagonal rendering thing they referred to, meaning that's not true 4K.

It's not up-scaled the final frame buffer will be 4K for some games. because it's being done in a more efficient way doesn't mean it's not 4K.

Also, there's no way Neo will launch this holiday season... At much, I can see it releasing in march just to screw Nintendo up since it's when they will launch the NX.

It is also supposedly a down-clocked 480.

So clocks can still be played with from the initial leaks months ago and marginal boosts actually yield great results in Flop bumps.

It will not be a 'scorpio response', if they do, do it, like fanatics will claim... because the initial leaks had them flirting with two power types and/or two cpu types long before scorpio was ever even rumored.

I am game either way.

Holy cow! NEO and NX both to be revealed on September?? Is gon' be a nice month for gaming.

LMAO haven't seen this gif since that memorable hype thread when the PS4 was about to launch in 2013!

Gaming news is truly year round and not confined to one mega event. That's good. Stuff like this imo only helps the industry.

Where's Banderas though?

Not hyped enough to make a single gif yet, at least we'll finally know what the Neo will bring to the table.

My point is how to call it other by its lengthy name, and more importantly, does it matter? The screen I posted looks better than many native 1080p games that employ poor, or no antialiasing.

Likely 2016, at the September event pre-order now for October release. This is an upgraded PS4 not a new gen, so less time needed for marketing. There will be no Neo only games, so no need to advertise a launch lineup.

My only concern is dealing with 2 new product launches at the same time (or same window) let alone talk of also a slim incoming...

Your screen doesn't show up. And yes, it matters. It's not about lenghty names, it's about facts.

Patrick and Austin just did a periscope talking about Neo. They think it's launching this year, the reason for a tech showcase is because they don't have a game to show ready and there might be a spec bump but not sure how much. Patrick said that since Scorpio got announced Sony is worried about Neo looking outdated.

Have I missed the happening / bunker memes, or is it still too early?

Developers will do what developers have always done and choose the resolution and frame rate tradeoff that makes sense for their game. There will be 1080p/60 titles. There will be 1080p/30 titles. There will be 1800p/30 titles using a variety of reconstruction techniques. There will even be a handful of native 4K/30 titles, though what they sacrificed to get there is likely to be somewhat obvious.

I can't see them passing over the name during the timeframe that "4K" is going to be a relevant marketing buzzword. It makes sense to ride the wave of rising consumer awareness of a 4K during the PS4 generation. The name PS4 Plus is just too confusing given the Playstation Plus service, so I'm not sure why people are pushing that idea. Of course they may go some other direction entirely, but PS4K is a good, obvious choice.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!

Finall! This means that it's coming out this year.

If the reveal event ins next month, it's pretty much guaranteed to be a holiday release at the latest. Andrew house indicated that it was going to be an Apple/Samsumg type of launch for the console. Reveal the console, and release it a few weeks later. Also, that last sentence, LOL. Companies prefer not to be put in a position where the consumer has to choose between devices, they're not going to specifically release the Neo in march just to screw with Nintendo. lmao.

I remember an Andrew House quote from a few weeks ago, stating they like what Apple does with their events and they basically want to do the same thing. So announce new hardware, available very shortly after the event.

I'm going for a late October release. It adds up as developers were told their games should have a Neo mode as of October this year. Oh, and I wouldn't be surprised if Apple has their September event on the same day this year :p

You know I wouldn't be so sure about this NOT releasing this year. Lets be real. It's still based on the PS4 just with higher specs. Devs kits have been out for a while. This will just be the finalized versions that go out to everyone now. Just have to wonder when production will start on the retail model. That will give the timetable.

I doubt Sony or MS are worried about Nintendo.

OT-Exciting times, im eager to see if this thing will be a significant upgrade to PS4.

I think that last point is more so their own opinion. Sony shouldn't worry about Scorpio as it launches next fall. Of course it'll look outdated.
