FCC wireless chip filing makes me think Sony will announce new Vita hardware

Hold on while we get educated on FCC filings

Thanks for looking into this!

So how do we tell the difference in the filings then? Would you be able to once again dig through them and distinguish whether these are for one device or multiple?

You won't find that until the short term confidentiality period is over. The test reports are redacted.

looks like we twist for a month then unless some media outlets have an inside scoop

doesnt sound like there is much reporting happening on this soooo

If a vita sequel had a shared library with the ps4, and the same amount of physical buttons as a ds4 (as opposed to having to use the touch pad) I'd be all over it.

Are they serious?!

I mean, I'd totally buy one, as I love my Vita. Best handheld, ever. But the consultant in me asks himself if that's a good idea, from a business perspective...

It's always been painfully obvious that Sony would make another handheld.

As much as I love my Vita, it was a major financial failure for Sony, and everybody thought that they wouldn't be prepared to risk eating another loss on another handheld. That's why everyone's losing their mind over this reading of the FCC runes.

Yeah as I don't think it would be clear cut.
It kinda is though. The lion's share of support that's left for traditional handhelds comes out of Japan and the market has shown it's incapable of supporting more than two of these. Sony doesn't really have a place in this market, they'd be better served strengthening their mobile phone division.

People will recognize the genius and contribution of the Vita one day. I don't think Sept 9th will be that day though.

Vita has (had) so much potential. I hope Sony does do something for it.

Vita is my favorite console of all-time (ok, 3rd after NES and PS1, but I digress) Anyhow, if they can figure out a way to install a 128GB memory chip in the thing (which can now be purchased for less than $20) as well as the 5gz chip, which is less than $10.

Those numbers to Sony would probably be less than $10 total, add in some small hardware updates and they could really make the Vita a beast with very little cost concerns.

That is assuming, of course, that they would bother doing anything with the Vita, since they completely abandoned it in the West about 3-4 years ago...

Why would they bother?

Was it though?

Wait wait wait

Unless I'm blind, there is literally nothing on the documents to suggest a PSVita development. It's a wireless chip. That can be used in any other Sony gaming device (like say... the Neo). The fuck?

I don't believe for a second this is a new Vita. Sony's been a leaky ship in regards to hardware for a while, yet you expect me to believe they kept a Vita successor hidden for this long without anything as much as a hint?

So... why isnt the thread locked? There is no evidence of it being about PSVita... and no mention of the codename Trinity.

Sounds like a big trolling by OP.

In all seriousness, if Sony just released a new Vita revision with l2/r2 butttons and a better wireless chip I'd be completely satisfied.

A remote play machine tuned Vita would be so good.

Not necessarily a successor just a revision, and this can happen. As I recall, I never heard of a single rumor about Vita TV before the announcement too.

Interesting!

This is the fun part of speculation.

Pure speculation...

Now that you say it, makes perfect sense.
I expect a renewed entry-level PS4 SKU anyhow.

Exactly, see below:

I can't believe they would try to enter the market with a new Vita after they have completely $hit all over the current one....

IT make more sense for this to be part of a new PS4 model.

IF they move more to a Samsung/Apple model of hardware life spans, then we should see at least 3 viable options on the market and fully supported at any given time.

Xbox has already moved towards that with the standard XB1, The S, then Scorpio.

This type of jump is how it's done.

Sony would have the Standard PS4, Slim?, Neo

or

Standard PS4, Neo, ????
