FCC wireless chip filing makes me think Sony will announce new Vita hardware

It's not happening. It can't be. Vita didn't succeed. What's the worth in trying again?

Unless this thing is either

A) Cheap as hell

Or

B) capable of emulating all PS games from PS3 to below

There isn't a good market for it. Sad but true.

This is the Vita section at a store near my house. Everything just disappeared one day. They didn't even put the games on sale :(

With Neo companies will need to adapt their games to run in a more powerful machine.

If trinity is a new portable, with base in the ps4, companies will need to adapt their games to run in a weaker machine too, but one that can run their games at a small resolution (like 540p).

This can means a portable with the entire ps4 library at launch.

It's always been painfully obvious that Sony would make another handheld.
Yoshida was quizzed on Sony's plans for a gaming handheld during the Q&A portion of his just-finished EGX 2015 developer session.

The affable exec replied that he and the rest of his team had enjoyed working on Vita, but that the rise of smartphone gaming had created an unhealthy climate in which to launch a successor.

"That's a tough question," he replied when asked about a PlayStation Vita 2. "People have mobile phones and it's so easy to play games on smartphones," Yoshida said. "And many games on smartphones are free, or free to start.

"I myself am a huge fan of PlayStation Vita and we worked really hard on designing every aspect. Touch-based games are fun - there are many games with really good design. But having sticks and buttons make things totally different.

"So I hope, like many of you, that this culture of playing portable games continues but the climate is not healthy for now because of the huge dominance of mobile gaming."
Sounds like a ringing endorsement to me :-\

Unless enough Visual Novel and niche RPG publishers banded together and asked Sony for another handheld...I don't see this happening.

Yep
If this is actually a new handheld by Sony, nintendo will be screwed

Hard to say

Nintendo and Sony would have to duke it out over an increasingly fickle but still Nintendo focused Japanese market

As for global market who the fuck knows. Nintendo has a lot of ground to make up but they are investing in mobile and building awareness again

My guess is if this exists it's a tablet/handheld type device that

1. Remote plays ps4 games
2. Plays backwards compatible games and ports of some PSN games.

Whatever the fuck it is welcome to present with wireless Sony.

Pretty insane they've been peddling the same horrendous wireless chips for ages.

2m away from your router? Sorry please move closer.

So... a Vita?

I wouldn't be surprised if they gave it full DS4 controls to promote the remote play, though.

I donno.. The rumor I've heard in Japan a while ago is that is one of the reasons Sony did go with propriety memory card for Vita instead of micro SD, so..

I just remembered that I've seen a patent from Sony regarding streaming from portable device, but I can't remember where I saw that (quite recent I guess).

If it turns out to be a Neo revision of the Vita that is both backwards compatible with ALL Vita games world-wide and uses non-proprietary SD-cards or 250GB on-board storage, then...

Take. My. Freaking. Money!!!

Literally, no reason why it couldn't have 128 GB on-board memory, it's a cheap chip now that should fit right in.

With that logic, Nintendo shouldn't try either considering the Wii U failed.

PLEASE BE TRUE HOLY FUCKING SHIT

Here's what they need to do for this thing to not end up a failure:

-Release it at 199US$ or 249US$
-It needs to be compatible with commercial memory cards. That means no proprietary bullshit.
-A/V Out, full 1080p

boom. Instant success.

I wonder if this is a reaction to the NX being a hybrid. If they leave the NX entirely uncontested in the handheld space, it could provide a foothold for Nintendo to take back at least some of the console space from Sony.

If a vita sequel had a shared library with the ps4, and the same amount of physical buttons as a ds4 (as opposed to having to use the touch pad) I'd be all over it.

I guess everyone would be all over it, the problem is that this is pure wishful thinking. :D

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Can anyone explain to me better what does the other thing added by redblack85 in the OP tell us about this whole thing? It seems like an NDA for those patents, I think?

Stuff like this isn't a reaction to something so recent.

A new handheld would have to have been in the making for a few years for it to be revealed now.

The bolded cannot be emphasized enough. It's a must.

If this rumor came to reality I'd finally jump on the Vita wagon. There are some PS1 classics I'd absolutely love to have on the go. I'm not much of a handheld player but RE2 everywhere I go would be fucking awesome.
