If this trend continues, whatever DCCU film comes out after Wonder Woman/Justice League will have a 2nd weekend hold better than 60%.

I can't wait till one day when someone gets brave and releases a hit blockbuster film in September and it makes bank. That'll really shake things up!

Hotel Translyvania and its sequel were September releases, and both did relatively well at the box office.

Well, there it is (or may be).

I forget so easily. Damn, that's a long wait.
they can't possibly top Thor 2 lets be real
Yeah I dunno if Cate Blanchett can top Kat Dennings' performance
lol never. i don't give a fuuuu if george miller directed it, that franchise is the toilet of these comic universes to me. they fooled me twice already. will only check out on netflix if it gets really stellar reviews. like cap 3 or better reviews.
Shit, man, that's cold.

pretty good get for them with cate blanchett though. taiki waititi i don't get the hype really. unless he's writing it as well. then it could be funny

How is it cold? The half of Thor on Earth is fun with some absolute shite on Asgars. Thor 2 fixes that by being shite on Earth and Asgard. And somehow thought taking away Hemsworth comic timing moments was a good idea.

And while Thor 3 has a great cast, I can't see Urban getting much to do and given Hopkins looks bored on screen in these films it's not encouraging to have Blanchett there - especially after she all but admitted she's doing a film her kids can watch.

I mean I'd love to be wrong, but making two mediocre Thor films back to back was some mean feat.

not a summer release, but John Wick 2 is gonna be there and he's bringing Morpheus

john-wick-2-6.jpg

Its directed by one half of the duo behind the first one, the other guy is doing a cold war spy thriller with Charlize Theron

coldest city is gonna rock the shit. my queen furiosa in the john wick director's spy film.

and john wick 2 should be pretty fun as well i hope, not as hyped for that though but i'm optimistic the action will be la flame. how they gonna give me a matrix reunion and make morpheus a homeless man tho?! i wonder if they drop a matrix reference in there. they gotta.

Nah, I get that :)

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Nerve is the surprise hit of the summer (and Tarzan) box-office wise.

I thought this film would bomb.

It's going to finish it's run at close to $40M.

On the limited release side, Hell or High Water is looking great with almost $200k at 32 theaters.

Kinda a shame how both Star Trek and Ghostbusters could have been decent hits if their studios didn't throw an outrageous amount of money at them. Star Trek has never in its 37 years on screen performed well enough to justify that budget and $150m for a McCarthy/Feig comedy is just straight wtf.

Both Bourne & Trek are getting better holds than expected.

It seems audiences are foregoing Suicide Squad for better programming.

So, with a few weeks left in the summer season, I think we are starting to have a clearer picture of this summer's top 10.

My Guess:

1) Finding Dory - $480M
2) Captain America: Civil War - $408M
3) The Secret Life of Pets - $365-375M
4) Suicide Squad - $285-305M (still early)
5) Star Trek Beyond - $165-175M
6) Jason Bourne - $165-175M
7) X-Men Apocalypse - $155M

Unless Sausage Party has a 5x OW multiplier, these are the top 7. Star Trek and Bourne are too close to call.

8) Ghostbusters - $125-128M
9) Central Intelligence - $126M
10) The Legend of Tarzan - $125M

These three are too early to call as well. It looks like Tarzan will fail to top Central intelligence unless it gets a late expansion. Ghostbusters could end up slighty ahead of both or slightly behind.

Sausage Party and Bad Moms are possible upsets for the bottom 3 spots, but it's too early to call either of those.

This is the End did get nearly a 5x OW multiplier, but something like Sausage party will probably have more of a novelty effect.

It's now clear that The Jungle Book will squeak past Deadpool domestically. However, Disney won't have a chance at sweeping the Top 5, because it looks like Secret Life of Pets is going to pass both of them.

Unless Rogue One shits the bed worse than anyone expects, Deadpool won't make the domestic Top 5 this year.

Pets, zootopia, JB and deadpool were all incredible success stories that I did not expect.

The Equalizer 2 is where it's at.

Equalizer was so good. I liked John Wick more, but to me they were both great. The interest in John Wick being so much higher than the interest in Equalizer seemed odd to me.

I'm thrilled we're getting sequels to both.

This year's top 10 cut off will be very high. Just throwing in Rogue One, you have 9 films over or near $300M (depending on Suicide Squad).

Sing looks like another animated film that will clear $250M with ease if it is halfway decent.

Sing looks like a cynical parody of every non-Pixar CG animated movie.

Hopefully very little, they're quite upfront about it being Rated R

The R rating is stupid though, if kids shouldn't see it don't rely on their parents not being idiots.

I live in the UK, we have a "12A" rating which has the same restrictions as R but we also have higher ratings

Yup. Sing is going to be another monster.

You don't think moana has a chance?

WB might have panicked after the 2nd day drop during OW. I don't think they're panicking with the DOM numbers at this point.

Legs won't be great but SS will creep towards somewhere around MoS numbers (DOM) which is pretty good. How many people thought this was a 300M+ lock a few months ago? WB may be kicking themselves for leaving money out there with the poor reviews but can't hate the total gross at this point.

I had Pets hitting 300M DOM but getting 360M+ is impressive. Had a bigger than expected impact on Dory's legs which prevented it from hitting 500M.

Pixar has Coco in November, that seems like an interesting concept

(and then Toy Story 4 in 2018 >_>)

Man, I really want to believe that TS4 can be good, but I don't know how you can reasonably expect people to overlook how great an ending TS3 had for the series as a whole. I just don't know about it.

Oh, don't worry the goal post has been moving from it's going to crash on the weekend itself, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday etc. You won't get many people to admit that the total gross is anything decent rather than an outright bomba.
