Maybe it's just me but I've seen hardly anything of this game except a glimpse at E3.

So this 12 minute game play video is just what I need. They don't know much about the game either but you see them getting around in the world.

I'm really really trying to temper my expectations for this game. But even just being at guns of Icarus level combat would be enough and I already know even on that front this is beyond that. What has me really excited is the PVE portion and how it works in PVP logically in a non invasive way.

I want PVP to be a risk reward people really need to guage the viability of instead of just attacking everyone on sight. I think having resource management to a degree, like he talks about in the video with maybe wood, tar supplies etc is a great idea. Plus having a mix of hostile and friendly NPC enemies and ships. God help I'm getting too hyped.

Can someone lead me to a place where they talk about planned systems in more depth?

Can't watch the video as I'm stuck in the office but is it the same boat/ship gameplay we got at E3 or is their any on land sections shown off?

No land sections really. Just them getting on the boat. This is my #1 concern right now. I absolutely need to see what this game is besides the boat stuff.

I usually play MMO's in third person so I am a little disappointed by first person but hey,it looks good...still not seeing any island, roaming land stuff but I guess there wont be as much of that...Sea and all.

Beautiful sunset against the sea... utterly fantastic. But,there so far doesn't seem and enourmous amount to do...I'm probably doing it a huge injustice though

That and what kind of NPC enemies well see. I know skeletons and mermaid/men have been confirmed but I want to see what else we are up against. Please have giant sea monsters. No Kraken, no buy.

Looks good... but I think the POV is too narrow. I honestly started to feel a little queasy watching some of it on full screen. Especially when the guy went up the long ladder to the crows nest.

Unfortunately this is not game for me. It looks really nice and really want this game to be successful. But going around and doing nothing and lack of any story and goals/objectives is just boring to me. That is why i don't like "MMO" Survival games.

This is the Gamescom show floor demo. From the perspective of one of five different teams on the map (I think it was 5 teams total).

The map was quite small overall but no idea if this was just a chunk of "open world" cut out for demoing purposes or if this was an instanced "multiplayer map" type deal.

Kraken is confirmed, if you take them at their word that the E3 cinematic trailer (the one with the frozen scenes) contains nothing they don't intend to get into the game.

There's going to be some of that; we know AI combat is confirmed, plus missions, singleplayer content. The exact extent is unclear, admittedly.

You get a chance to play it? What'd you think?

They refuse to show the game beyond its ship combat element. If anyone is doing it a huge injustice it's Rare themselves.

We don't know enough about the game to even say that.

I usually don't like MMOs, so I'm hoping there's a bit of single player possible. Hopefully I can explore as my lone rebel self.

Until they show it i don't believe :D So far everything they showed was more-less just goofing around with friends.

Do you do anything else in this game but drink beer and sail in a boat and shooting the canons at other ships?

I think they are being really reserved on what they are promising due to the nature of hype and marketing. Nothing shows the danger of overpromising worse than the whole No Man's Sky situation. Smart of them to keep it close to the chest, but it's frustrating because we have so little information.

I played it three times, twice the same starting point on the map (which incidentally is the one shown in the video -- was playing as "LuckyLou102" both times). The other one had you swim out to the ship.

Coordinating the ship activities, managing the sails, dropping the anchor for "hand break" turns, being the lookout up in the eagle's nest, repairing and shooting the cannons and such was great -- unless you were stuck manning the wheel. That was quite boring, you couldn't see anything due to the sails being in the way. Of course nothing forces you to stick to any one task but for one of the demos I did.

It's clear you need a competent team communicating to really make the game work. One of the times I was playing with 4 Rare developers on my own team, which unsurprisingly was the funniest session.

The demo only really showed what it was like manning the ship -- which was mostly really fun and played well, if a bit simplistic. You couldn't tell anything about the game play loop or progression outside of this particular aspect though (do you scavenge for upgrades? gear? musical instruments? how big/seamless is the world? etc.)

It's probably not ready to show off yet. Better to make a good first impression with those other elements, so Rare should take their time and make sure it's something that demos well before showing it to the public.

It looks really pretty aside from the stiff jumping animation. Still not sure what you actually do in the game. The ship fighting mechanic looked like it would become boring fast and there wasn't much else in the clip.

They shouldn't have announced it so early then. People are already sick of seing the same shit over and over. The current lack of interest on GAF shows that, threads rarely and barely make it out of the first page and half of the replies are complaints and concerns. As it should be.

It looks good but it still feels like I am looking at an early version of the game. Would like to see more about quests, combat, navigating ect.

Looks pretty good. Can't wait to see the other aspects of the game.

I have never seen you not complaining in a GAF thread

Am I the only one who does not understand what this game is about? What do you do? Is there any task to complete? Or do you just fool around?

Really wish they would show story stuff and missions. seems like all they have shown is random stuff you can do that doesn't seen that interesting to me

I adore the art style! To me it looks like a first-person Torchlight.

I can't wait to sing improvised pirate shanties while playing this!

It's in there but they've only been showing this sort of vertical slice of the game which is tuned so a few player ships can find and fight each other in a short session.

Looking forward to this so bad.

Even if it's just sailing around and crap.. this will be my go-to thing on weekend nights. Drinking and sailing and talking shit with friends!
