I think you're very confused.

Huh?
Oh wait. I phrased that completely wrong. I meant that since I don't see how you can put the console vertically, that the way the logo is placed doesn't mage sense to me. But if you could, it being sideways would look worse.

I agree with this poster. Every time I go into Huppins, or on to Amazon the prices keep dropping. Jan next year will be the perfect point of entry. I bet you will be able to get a 65 inch Sammy HDR with Quantum dot technology for about a grand after the holidays.

The content is there. A ton? No. But Netflix, YT, Amazon Video have quite a bit already. With 4k capabilities coming to the console world, it's just going to make content providers more incentivised to push it out there. I, for one, welcome our 4k overlords.

Pretty much nobody buys movies physically anymore and hasn't since the economy took a nosedive and Netflix took off in popularity, and all of those streaming apps are built into almost all 4K TV's. While 4K itself is going to become more popular, physical media isn't going to follow suit and it's really not going to meaningfully make most people get an Xbox One Slim instead of a PS4 Slim. Hell, if anyone really cares that much about UHD Blu-ray, they'll just wait for the Neo in all likelihood.

Now that we have a photo taken in a lit room the plastics really don't look any better than they did when they were taken in a dark room with the flash on.

The original PS4's plastics weren't great either (the chassis easily flexes too under pressure), but there's something about the shape and all-matte design of this device that accentuates them.

This looks like a travesty, just like the PS3 slim.

I despise that cheap grainy plastic look.

I wonder if the Slim got made so ugly on purpose so people buy the Neo

not serious, obviously

The person who was posting about info coming from that employee wrote something very similar. They wrote that Slim was being made to look less premium so that NEO would look more premium. Sorry for lack of quote.

my 2 cents, I think it wont support 4K/UHD, and it will be competitevely priced to undercut the Xbox One S. € 250 barebones or € 300 including a few digital games wouldnt surprise me.

. The bold is important. More and more people consume content from additional sources. TV is becoming a dinosaur. Plus, I've heard rumblings (disclaimer: anecdotal) about the NFL getting some 4K stuff and if that happens many, many people (Americans) would be on board. Sports is huge here.
Yeah, tv tv tv tv sports sports sports tv tv.

I don't think they need to undercut the S in order to outsell it. Retailers are already making bundles and discounts ting the Xbox one S. Sony just needs to get the new model on the shelves.

But yea, I don't see this model supporting UHD.

But won't 4K streaming face a big obstacle in data caps? To my knowledge, a lot of places in US still have internet plans with stupid limits of how much a user can download in a month.

I can only imagine that one episode of Daredevil in 4K eats a big chunk of a 200gb cap.

I will almost never again buy physical copies of movies unless they are truly special. Done. They lose all of their value and I just never bother loading discs into a player anymore. I don't care how fantastic it looks in 4K. Not doing it anymore. Physical games, that I think I'll keep doing for a while.

I think they killed off the vertical stand. Note how the box for the PS4 Slim no longer shows the system in vertical orientation, which was a big thing when Sony were marketing PS4 even though the system doesn't ship with a stand.

Nintendo did a similar thing with Wii revision 2. In addition to gutting the GC controller+mem card ports the system could no longer stand vertically. Though that was probably done so they can save shipping costs and reduce the size and weight of the box - Nintendo included two separate parts to make up a stand with every Wii after all.

I'm expecting the PS4 Neo to have a design that embraces a vertical orientation.

On a related note, depending on your setup, the PS4 Slim might take up more space on a table or beside the TV, since the footprint of the device while laying horizontally is much larger than a vertical setup in these instances.

Been out of the thread since last night, has it been confirmed if the console features a UHD-BD drive and supports HDR?

Streams are heavily compressed.

One benefit would be fan noise reduction, if this runs quiet I would consider it, though with Neo on the way probably not... But then it isn't aimed at me.

Same. Even the lackluster selection that is Canadian Netflix covers like 99% of my entertainment needs, with almost all of the remaining 1% being achievable via iTunes Digital Copies. In fact, the few Blu-rays I've purchased have mainly been because they came with an iTunes Digital Code and were cheaper than a direct purchase on iTunes. I used to buy a few movies a week in the pre-Netflix days and streaming just completely cratered the need for physical media because the cost and convenience gained was unquestionably well worth the "almost no one notices anyway" drop in quality.

4K itself will take off but it'll mostly be streaming; the UHD Blu-ray format is definitely not going to meaningfully take off, especially with costs being what they are now.

But even accounting for the compression, how much would be consumed by streaming 4k netflix?

I found this old Gizmodo post from last year that says that you could potentially burn through 18 Gb per hour. While this article might be wrong (and I think their math logic is flawed) the amount a data consumed should be significant.

I don't this '4K revolution is happening' stuff. Most TV channels still aren't 1080p.

yup.

not to mention the fact that most people don't even buy physical media for their movies anymore and are okay with watching in shit quality via wifi streaming, I really don't see 4K taking off.

the big appeal of HDTVs was less the image quality and more the fact that everyone got to replace their clunky fucking crt with a beautiful, light, space saving flatscreen.

people aren't going to shell out for another flatscreen just because it has better image quality

Dude, the devices aren't identical in any way. What are you even talking about at this point.
You are right they aren't identical.

When it comes down to it the feature set will sell a system. It has been stated many times here on GAF that power doesn't matter. It's mind share. The Xbox one s is a 4K media player. Best Buy, Walmart, target will probably be pushing this system to sell along with their 4K tvs this holiday. Sales and markdowns galore.

We are entering into the 4K boom. I imagine if Neo is released this holiday then it will also be pushed to sell a lot.

I don't care how ugly it's perceived to be, but why is it not that much smaller? Remember the PS2 slim? Now THAT was slim. This is like, slightly thinner. PS4 'budget'

Any word on price?

I'll probably end up grabbing a standard PS4 after the inevitable price drop.

The Xbox One S is more an answer to the Neo in the short term by including 4K support to bridge the gap till Scorpio.

This slim isn't an answer to the One S lol... Its for Sony to reduce costs and have the cheapest PS4 possible for even more sales.

If you really want/need 4K and its not just for a bullet point list purchase of something you'll never use then Sony want you buying a Neo not a slim PS4.

Hard drives keep modern consoles from ever getting that slim.
