I run the HDMI out from the PS4 to an AVR, that is connected to the TV via HDMI.

A lot of newer sound bars and TVs have an audio return channel (ACR), where you would run the PS4 HDMI to the TV, and then run an HDMI to the sound bar via an ARC.

You can also run the HDMI to your TV, then use the TV optical out to the sound bar.

Lot of options here, so just so people are aware there is more than one way to do this.

The Slim is not intended to be an upgrade, but a replacement of the old PS4. If you already own the PS4 then you are technically not the target of the Slim, the target is people who don't own a PS4 of any description.

Yea I know this. Those who want the slim and need a optical port will have to buy an adapter.

my PS4 (and all other devices) go into my amplifier via HDMI, which then connects to my speakers.

I'm intrigued by the controller, I was never bothered by the light bar, yes it glared against the TV, but when I'm focused on something my eyes adjusted and I forget it's there really. From the videos and pics the front bar doesn't look as blinding, so who knows. Better battery I doubt

You can get an HDMI audio extractor that gives you an optical port for, like, $20, so it's not a big deal.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, optical is a dying format. It doesn't carry the lossless audio of blurays these days anyways. If people really need it, they can get a $20 HDMI audio extractor.

Most people who use a PS4 have either A) TV speakers or B) an HDMI capable receiver

It's probably the same bulb just with more transparent parts to show it, much like people seem to think there is a light on the back of Macbooks for the apple, not knowing it's just the main screen lighting it up.

Haven't though of that, silly me. I hope for a more efficient battery anyway, because it's one of the worst things in the current DS4.

I doubt that's how their PR works. The entire September press event has to be pretty much finalized by now, video editing and all.

But I would love if Neo got all the love and the new Slim was simply shown as a new, super low cost PS4 for PlayStation Family newcomers.
