It has been sad to see downward spiral of Czech ice hockey. I mean late 90s and early 00s you were the European powerhouse team of Hockey. Now year after year more veterans leave the game and less and less new talent enters (Slovakia has been hit even harder). We were on same path here in Finland but luckily started to change the junior programs in early 00s and now are finally starting to see some good results (2 Junior gold medals in three years). I mean even from this WC team you can see how we lost a decade in terms of good players (our oldest playing defenseman is 25 years old..)

Nah. Just a look at some skill. I don't bother watching exhibition games in the NHL either but at least here we have players who are supposed to be top tier or near top tier, so even though they are shaking off the rust it's fun for us starved for high level hockey.

I'll make it short and sweet. There is a lot of behind the scenes BS that happens at young ages before players turn pro (and even in the Extraliga with teams not playing players in the past). If any young player in the CZ is getting short handed because their dad won't bribe the coach for ice time and they know that they are possibly good enough for a professional future (not necessarily NHL, but just any pro league where you could make a real living) then I wish for them to go and play in North America where development will likely be less corrupt.
So with actual development of young players being shitty, we then have a situation where the upcoming generation doesn't have as many quality players.
