So supposedly...

Is... that a thing? felt like nexus line was always for XDA folks to buy it out of pocket void the warranty and do dumb stuff to it day 1, not your average joe on installment plans.

Verizon and google must be really confident with what the pixel is offering to be on equal footing with the big dogs.

Theres got to be something crazy in the software side.

Wonder if they will throw in a daydream VR headset in the box?

iPhone pricing with worse SoC, NAND, camera, not waterproof. looooooooooooooool
I doubt the camera will be worse. The Nexus 5X/6P had one of the best camera's available last year and this year it will probably be better than the iPhone 7 (Again). It sounds like thus far the S7 has a better camera than the iPhone 7 and I have read some things to suggest that the Lumia 950 does as well so it isn't like Apple has made magic or anything.

I'm not overreacting about the Pixel. I'm going to remain calm and see what they announce first. Price is not a concern as I was about to buy a top of the line iPhone 7 Plus, before they removed the headphone jack.

So now that the Pixels are DOA, is it possible to install another ROM without rooting a phone? Like if the Note 7 (figuratively) bombas after it is reintroduced, would there be a way to get CM onto it without rooting and losing Android Pay & etc.?

I know zero about modding stuff.

A custom ROM needn't be rooted. Many custom ROMs come unrooted by default.

Cyanogenmod mod has a toggle in setting to enable or disable root. I don't know how well that plays with Android Pay though.

I hope Google has upped their game to justify this, or else ...

Yeah, I'm an Android Zombie, I need this no matter what the pricing is. 6P wasn't hat much more here :(

For that price, I would expect Pixel to get all the "extra" stuff right on top of what the 6P did.

That means water resistance, SD card support, UFS 2.0 storage, wireless charging, etc.

At least one of those isn't happening, so...

It's shaping up to be the first year I don't upgrade a phone. Still, I'm waiting for official announcement. What's more concerning is:

@RDR0b11: Can't wait to read all the embargoed Allo takes this week. It's such a DOA product. Purely a reactionary move by Google. It's pointless.
@RDR0b11: .@sprke81 Google Assistant is Google's Big Shiny New Thing that looks great on paper but is far less compelling in practice. As always.
@RDR0b11: .@ademircm sorry, should have been clearer: 100% not sarcastic. Allo brings nothing compelling to the table. Assistant is 70% gimmick.
@RDR0b11: @suka_hiroaki if the API does something actually worth adopting, sure you can. Problem is, Assistant is super far from done or even useful.
@RDR0b11: @nicholasorsini Duo does serve a purpose, though. Super easy 1:1 video chat is at least a feature gap on Android.

Based Duo.

Yeah, it sounds like Assistant is just a glorified chat bot. I'm still hoping it's implementation in Home is better than Alexa, at least.

Disappointed about the price point. I just got a Nexus 6P for Christmas 2015, but I get that itch to get a new product, so I was starting to get excited, but I don’t think I want to fork over $700+ for the XL 128gb model. Unless they have a pricing plan, but I don’t know. I really don’t have to upgrade, Nexus 6P is great.

Well at the those prices for the XL and given my need to replace my G2 for the first time in my life I might actually buy an Apple device.

So supposedly...

$650 for what? No IR blaster, No microsd card slot, no FM radio, no wireless charging, no waterproofing does not amount to $650 in costs. Can't wait for the BOM to leak and see how badly the markup is. Every android user that buys this $650 device loses the right to criticize Apple.
---

I'm either buying an Xperia X Compact, XZ, or LG G5 since the price got lowered.

Google is completely delusional and the Pixel phones are completely DOA at this price point - they're ugly as sin and don't look premium t all.

The question for me really becomes buy an OP3 or a 6P before they disappear from the Google store?

Well, HTC doesn't exactly have much clout when sourcing components. They likely get a shit deal on every single component. Plus, the 821 was rumored to be commanding a high price from Qualcomm.

seems average from reviews, but the dash charging is currently the king in terms of charging speeds, sooo...

How good are we talking here?

Honestly I can't remember well about the battery on the N6p but looking at my battery atm I'm on 3h 41mins screen time and 49% battery left but I did charge while an OTA hit so not 100% accurate.

Hmm, sounds like it might be similar to the 6P, which isn't great. Is the camera as good or better?

Nah not as good as the 6P but a very decent camera imo

and dash charge 30 mins restores 60%

Just looked at how much used 6Ps are going for. I'm just going to wait for the Pixel to launch and get another 6P.

I was thinking of getting the new Pixel XL as my main, then relegate my current 6P as my work phone...

seems like I'll just get another 6P as my work phone

but hopefully the phone turns out to be better than expected
