Xbox One wins 3 consecutive months in NPD for the first time, #1 UK, up YoY

That's the thing, PS4 is not ahead of Xbox One by millions in NA which we are referring to with NPD. Xbox One iirc is only a bit more than a million behind PS4 in North America. People always fail to remember this.

Smallest difference there has been between first place and second in North America since the 16-bit gen (Genesis vs. SNES). So yeah, definitely easier for Microsoft to make gains here in comparison to many of the PlayStation dominated territories.

Amazon doesn't agree with you for example.
Pro has been vastly outselling both PS4 and XB so far.

What does that have to do with new owners / upgrading owners ratio? The last several months will be almost exclusively new purchasers. November will be primarily upgrades. The two don't correlate.

I really warmed up to the PS4 slim in person, its a lot more quality in real life face to face. I can't explain it.

I like the way it looks personally, it's just obvious that cost cutting was their primary concern. barely any new features or anything (which is fine, just not exciting)

?

360 and Wii difference was really small in US.

I think November will be the real month of surprise. Pro vs a cheap XB1S bundle vs an even cheaper OG XB1 bundle, so exciting. October could be PS4's month due to PSVR.

You really think PSVR will push PS4 hardware sales?

Is there a giant market for new console owners looking to spend $700USD?

Amazon isn't a reliable metric outside of generally predicting the winner.

And here we are talking just about that, Amazon has never failed at gauging hardware sales.
They have also forecasted muted sales of the Slim with deals on the OG PS4 selling more.
The Pro is having huge preorders and those are all sales that have been taken away from the Slim and will be counted in November.

Just a curiosity.

Why people are putting the NPD wins in Xbox One S's back? Are there any data shared? I'm asking because at launch OG Xbox One > Xbox One S.
No, the XB1S sold more than the fat XB1 in August. Something like <160k for the S and >120k for the fat. Fat XB1 has basically sold out at this point.

I love how MS just cares for the states. Next console they can release it only English speaking countries.

Great for the bragging but actual numbers of sales would send a bigger message of confidence in their product.

Say sold the most or something, that's all I'm saying. Again, just my opinion. Call it a pet peeve.

Nah, it's been a long time coming and it's well deserved.

I get my S model tomorrow in preparation for Titanfall 2. I cannot wait.

It would be weirdly hilarious is XB1 managed to make up its lost ground and we ended up at basically the same status quo as last generation, with Xbox dominant in UK and NA and PlayStation territory being everywhere else. All those fanboy tears and gnashing and console wars and ending up in the exact same positions would be poetic.

Whatever happened to China that everyone was making a big deal about opening up to consoles? Have we gotten any real data out of there? Google just pulls up news stories from when they lifted the ban.

Oh yea, you are right, it does gauge sales but it's hard to assign a number to the positions.

The XB1S also had fairly good positioning on Amazon but the actual numbers were that impressive.

Still people thinking my Sony is complacent talk is just stupid are just fooling themselves. Sony had a very good strong position, they could have easily locked the whole market but they wanted to earn the profit for the whole Sony from one device PS4. Which might make more sense as a company but as a division it certainly going to hurt them.

They arent complacent

You really think that Xbox is gonna cut the 20 million gap? I have a bridge to sell you.

Your data confuses me.

Aqua: Xbox One S sold "almost 1/3rd of the total."

So OG Xbox One sold 2/3 that is indeed more than 1/3.

PS4 was pretty handedly outselling the XB1 there last I remember but neithers sales were anything to write home about.

Latest news we have is that combined sales of the PS4 and XB1 exceeded 500k. https://zhugeex.com/2015/11/ps4-xb1-install-base-in-china-reaches-500000/

1/3 of total console sales, not XB1 sales.

I'd like to see the percentage of folks that bought a Xbox One S strictly for the 4K Bluray Player, I know I'm part of that group and I've never owned a Microsoft console before it.

Holy shit, I just learned that Xbone is selling for under $250! That's fucking nuts. No wonder they picked up so much momentum. I wonder how long it's been selling for that.

It'll be interesting to see if Sony can beat that, but I'm not so sure.

October is really going to be exciting to watch because its a question of which will drive momentum more, The Gears + Battlefield bundles for Xbox, or PSVR for PS4. That could really go either way imo and I could see it being a pretty close month

Gears + Battlefield bundles will have more of an impact than PSVR. absolutely

ehh, i think being bundled with the new COD and Watchdogs will have more effect on PS4 sales than the introduction of the pro.

It just takes a few thousand to swing the lead these days. PSVR is a major launch of VR that should bring in some new console owners.
wouldn't you assume that thats playing more to the already established install base. Like thats looking at a $700+ investment from a new owner perspective. Do you see that many people doing that?

I've only just thought of this but I imagine the majority of PSvr owners will already own a PS4. I can't see people buying a PS4 and PSvr at the same time, at least here in the UK. Too expensive.

Fuchsdh, I like the way you think.

As of now I'm inclined to think so as well, because if we are talking NEW purchasers which is what October will basically be, how much will PSVR + PS4 aka $700 realistically move? I'm not so sure that is a more enticing purchase to a total newbie into the generation than a much cheaper Xbox with a game they will probably want. As of now I'm giving the edge to Xbox in October but it could easily move the other way.

Also no doubt the Pro is pushing some sales into November.

Xbox has amazing games at this time of year and the bundles are incredible value.
Well deserved sales, hope to see Xbox momentum continue.

You may laugh but anything can happen.

I'm not laughing. But the last 3 years if nothing have demonstrated that price is a huge determining factor in sales numbers.

I'm not sure a $700 entry price for what is currently a niche product is going to sell new hardware.

Phil should take advantage of the momentum and surprise us all with a jaw dropping worldwide ltd sales number

Have people seen the price cut and bundles for the Xbox slim and the fire sale for the regular Xbox? I'd be surprised if it didn't do well if US. So it's kind of funny people attributing this success to 4k blu-ray playback. It is just so Damn cheap even I almost bought one but I held back since I am planning to get a 4k tv +ps4 pro.

Gratz to team Xbox but some of y'all with the slayoff and king slayer talk crack me up.

What does that have to do with new owners / upgrading owners ratio? The last several months will be almost exclusively new purchasers. November will be primarily upgrades. The two don't correlate.

The correlation is that the Slim has lost all the sales from the core gamers/upgraders group because of the Pro.
If the Pro didn't exist I'm sure that more people in this group would be interested in buying a smaller, lighter, less noisy version of the console they own with 5 Ghz Wifi support as well.
But these people all know that something better is coming soon so they obviously prefer to wait for the other product.
The Xbox One S is benefiting of these upgraders buying the new system because it's smaller, adds a few 4K features right now, while Sony is seeing those sales delayed.
The Slim is indeed getting all its sales right now from new owners, but usually more price conscious consumers are now waiting for the holiday season deals and bundles.
And btw sales are still pretty close.

Seems like the pick any game promotion worked for MS. At least on amazon Ps4 was dominating until that deal. I can only assume that was the trend everywhere.

Gotta give it to MS they're willing to lose a lot of money. All the free games,Controllers, gift cards has to cost them millions.

Its true, but even without Pro announcement I'm not sure Sony would be leading these last few months. Last month in NA for example was not close, Xbox won by a significant margin

It's an early adopter market. Few in number but price isn't meaningful.

Not saying it's hundreds of thousands of people, but 10-25k? Maybe 30k? Doesn't seem unrealistic to think there are that many folks out there who will jump into this gen for the first time for the new and shiny tech.

Guess it's scale and how one quantifies "a lot"

Funny to hear people saying Xbox One has better games when the only games that came out recently are GEOW 4(good but more of the same game) and Recore(Badly review game). I definitely think that the PS4 has better games but unfortunately the PS4 slim is a travesty at the price. The main reason I bought a Xbox S was due to getting it for $165 and actually less since I return Halo 5 game back to Target. I don't even have a 4K TV but that is definitely a selling point especially when I can get it for almost nothing. I'm not too enthused about games for it but I can see it's use as a 4K Blu-ray player.

I just bought PSVR and will buy the Pro next month. I just think the PS4 Slim was a mis-step by Sony and they better discount it heavily if they want it to sell well.

Good for Xbox on capitalizing on this but I still don't see the appeal of its game that everybody is touting over Sony. The reason people bought it was that Microsoft is almost giving these away for free. LOL!
