So, given that is not delayed and imho in won't be delayed, what is keeping Nintendo from revealing it?
The surge for a perfect unveiling or the hope that a short yet bombastic campaign, similar to Apple, will provide them with the best results?

Only thing I can think of is trying to figure out the best timing around PSVR, PS4 Pro, big game releases and the start of the holiday rush.

Missing E3 for whatever reason really hurt them, but I guess they just didn't have the hardware and/or concept nailed down or something. Fall is a tough time to announce as so much is going on and coming out, and more this year than usual (outside of console generation launch years) with PSVR and PS4 Pro.

So I guess in that sense next week could make sense. This week PSVR launch got all the press, next week they can have the limelight and maybe generate some buzz following the mixed reception PSVR has gotten. Also, maybe they hope to reveal before PS4 Pro is out to maybe convince some gamers to stick with their PS4s and save their money for NX next year.

I'm currently in that boat. Have $165 or so in credit at Gamestop that I'll put toward NX if I like it and decide to early adopt. If not, I may just trade in my PS4 as well and get a PS4 Pro and hold off on NX and just play Zelda on Wii U.

NeXt Wiik? You say

Lets play guess the Console name see if anyone comes close

Nintendo X-tra
Nintendo Nexx
Nintendo Duality
Nintendo Unity
Nintendo Amity
Nintendo Harmony

nintendo DUO.

I'm taking the cheap way out based on that one "leak", but I just really like that name. It's short and sweet while describing the supposed concept perfectly. Even if it isn't DUO, it'll always be named that in my heart.

My issue with buying 3rd party games on Nintendo platforms is that they're always gimped in some way. If they put the same amount of effort in those ports compared to the others, then I bet those games would sell better. Companies aren't charities and so if the game is a crappy port, why the hell do those games deserve to sell? Resident Evil 4 did quite well on the Wii and it wasn't a crappy port. So those games can sell if they're worth a damn.

Indeed.

Problem is IF 3rd parties decide to do this effort, they demand instant success in sales, NOW or piss off, not lets keep making effort and over time succeed.

Don't know about next week but not revealing before the holiday season seems really stupid. Wouldn't put it past Nintendo at this point though

No it wont.

I assumed it was already confirmed that it wouldn't have a disc drive, but even if it did we already know its going to use a cartridge of some sort. So you think on top of those 2 slots, they'll have another to take retro games (nes, snes and n64)?

Anyone who believes this guy is going to be sorely disappointed.
Ignoring that it sounds totally bogus, I assume if they wanted to do such a thing it would be through something like a USB peripheral.
Wasn't the talk that the detachable controllers part will make it cheaper than usual somehow?
I don't remember that, but it could be cheaper than including a separate "home" controller for when docked.

The problem, though, is that even with effort the games are gimped due to the hardware being underpowered.

The post you quoted mentioned RE4 for Wii as an example, but that's a poor one as RE4 was a Gamecube game so the Wii wasn't underpowered for that port.

No one that has a PS4/X1/PC already (and any gamer that likes western AAAs and has money for a console does at this point mostly) isn't going to buy an NX version of a game that runs at lower resolutions, with lesser graphics etc. even if its otherwise a good port. Especially since most games have online modes these days and most of their friends are probably playing the superior looking version on the other platforms.

It's just hard to see Nintendo every breaking back into that Western AAA market in a big way. They just missed the boat starting with using carts for the N64, and then moving away from having exclusive shooters like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Turok (for a time) after that generation. Then they really departed from even trying with the Wii and further burned that bridge.

I think it's mostly moot anyway as we're going toward gaming as services eventually and will finally get past all this dedicated hardware/console nonsense anyway. They just need to make enough profits until that point, and they an if they nail their first party lineup, Japanese exclusives and merchandising/licensing revenue streams.

Right? It's such an elegant name. I've read comments saying that duo is just as bad as Wii U and I'm just sitting here thinking, wtf that name is as good as it's going to get.

It won't be duo though. Other names will be fine as well.

Under normal circumstances, yeah. But if the NX version is also portable I'd finally have a reason to not just automatically go PC for every multiplatform game.

The idea is if they are using the patented invention in which the controller portions have no electronic components and the handheld just senses the positions of all of the buttons based on an IR sensor at the connection between controller and handheld, then add-on controllers could be as cheap as pennies. And potentially be bundled with games.

But it's unlikely that the controller portions actually shipping with the NX will be those super cheap ones, as they would not have any sort of independent motion or rumble capability.

Fair point.

But still a shrinking market in the west. That could help sell some games in Japan though.

I'll almost never use the portable function though as I have little use for gaming on the go, and zero interest in gaming on a small screen at home when I have a 55" TV I can game on any time I want.

There's already been a game console called the DUO though. ;)

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
I have to say the Nintendo Duo is a pretty catchy name (whether its real or not) and its perfect for getting the message along that its a 2-in-1 hybrid. I definitely think Nintendo will focus on that aspect that youre essentially getting 2 systems in 1 and they havent abandoned the home console or handhelds.

A system can be more powerful and a game look identical purely because they don't want to do anything more to the game.

I always wonder how people conceive of "power" working for game consoles. Is it like stats in an RPG, where as your level goes up you just automatically do more damage with every attack?

Because none of it sounds too far fetched?

-Tropical Freeze, Retros last release will have been over 3 years ago by the time the NX releases. I remember Miyamoto saying the studio was big enough to work on multiple titles and we know theres another Metroid in development based on what Tanabe said. Retro could be making a new Metroid Prime, a new Donkey Kong (with help from Next Level Games), and a new ip (brand new or a Nintendo ip handed to them)
-Ubisoft has historically supported Nintendo more than most western publishers. The 4 games could be: Just Dance, BG&E2, Rayman/Rabbids, WatchDogs 2 or another new title
-A big tentpole Mario game will have to be there at release or the launch window and it will have been over 3 years since 3D World
-Mario Sports - Nothing outlandish, could be a Mario & Sonic Olympics
-Smash Splatoon and Mario Kart ports so they can release sequels down the road

There is absolutely no way it's called Nintendo Duo. The PC Engine was a big deal in Japan and had several Duo iterations, one of which came to the States. There's no way Nintendo gives it the name of a former major competitor.

Edit: in fact Im willing to bet they considered Duo for the original DS but crossed it off the list for the reason stated above.

-He's talking about MH NX, saying that it'll feature online on the "console version" and local on the "handheld version" for outdoor play

-He says that they still don't know the price but thinks 349-400€ because it's a new technology which require a "bIg OS"

-Bayonetta 3 confirmed, Amiboo will be usable which will unlock combos

-Only Nintendo knows the real name of the console at the moment

-15 games at launch and 30 throughout the year

-More support for 3rd party publisher, Nintendo apparently became closer with them

-Remaster from the N64 trough the Wii incoming

-Info comes from his journalist friend (most likely Julien Chièze)

-3rd Party games will come later (he's talking about games which will come out at the end of this year)

-EA, SE and Ubisoft fully on board

-Still expected to launch March 2017

-According to him data (like saves) automatically updates when the "handheld part' became close range to the "console parts"

Will update as the stream continues

Edit: Stream over

There is no way he can know so many things.

Nintendo Go
Concept play at home or play on the Go

Nintendo X (Cross)
Concept is games work at home or on handheld, cross compatible

Nintendo Duo
2 ways to play at home or or outside. 2 controls methods, touchscreen/motion or traditional. 2 Detachable Controllers for local multiplayer.

Some names I'd be happy with.

No. It cant be GO. SONY already named a system GO.

What if they call it the "Nintendo Let's Play": no trademark on it, yet loads of free marketing on the name. Just using the same card let's players are using right now.

LMAO this is so ridiculous

If the Wii was priced at $300 it still would've been sold out everywhere. It's absurd to think that just never because Nintendo's name is on the box that it can't have a value of $300.

I mean even at $300 the Wii would still be cheaper than its competition. That's not the case anymore. $300+ would be the death knell. Count on it.

It's not getting delayed.
Seriously, it's so annoying people keep thinking it's getting delayed.

It you believe Emily that the NX is a hybrid with her details then you better believe when she said NX is ahead of schedule. There's ZERO reason to believe there's a delay.

Anyways I was going to post

https://mynintendonews.com/2016/10/14/oceanhorn-has-been-confirmed-for-a-nintendo-console/

A game called Oceanhorn was announced to come to a "Nintendo Console". I guess this is more evidence that the NX IS a console and not a hybrid. I can use this for my next YouTube video.

Also it's "evidence" that another indie company has a devkit. Unless they're just doing it for more exposure and attention and just "planning" for a Nintendo release.

You're right on some of that, but I think it all has to do with perception. I remember people saying Resident Evil Wii was doomed and it went on to sell over a million copies. It was a great port and well worth the money for people to play it another way. Here's the thing, though, what could make all the difference is how it's played. If the NX uses an updated remote and nunchuck, then that will be a draw for people who enjoyed playing Wii games that way and are looking to move on to a high fidelity game. I would put serious money into being able to play Battlefield with the remote and nunchuck...provided it's a great port. That would be a great angle to go with and if the NX is at least close to the PS4/Xbox One in terms of power, it's got a shot at holding it's own provided all the ports are equal.

I personally bought Wii U versions of CoD games just to play with the remote and nunchuck.
